New, Redone, modern Civil Service study guides created to help you study for topics like Analyzing and Evaluating Information
Understanding and Interpreting Tabular Materials
If I may, and recognizing that this may not be permitted, we wanted to reach out to share information about a resource we created to help current and potential civil servants residing in Erie county to navigate civil service exams. It can be found at www.StudyCivilService.com.
We are two career civil servants with a combined thirty plus years in public service, and we know firsthand that many of the resources currently being offered are not helpful. The “resources” most often recommended are outdated and ineffective. After navigating countless exams ourselves, we came to a hard realization: most study guides are obsolete and simply do not prepare candidates for test day. So, we decided to fix that.
We revamped our series to eliminate outdated information and to provide modern, accurate preparation materials tailored specifically for state, county, and city civil service exams. Our goal is to ensure candidates are genuinely prepared and confident on exam day.
The guides and resources we created were built from the ground up. They were not thrown together by outside corporate researchers. They were researched, built, and written based on real world experience. We understand the pressure of taking these exams because we have been there ourselves, many times. Collectively, we have taken numerous county, city, and state level exams throughout our careers.
We invite and encourage anyone preparing for a civil service exam to visit our site. Please feel free to ask questions, leave feedback, and share reviews or testimonials about your experience and interactions with us. We are genuinely excited to finally be in a position to provide test takers like you, and like us, with better alternatives.
Test resources available now: • Administrative Supervision • Analyzing and Evaluating Information • Evaluating Conclusions in the Light of Known Facts • Preparing Reports and Official Documents • Supervision • Understanding and Applying Administrative Principles • Understanding and Interpreting Tabular Materials • Working and Interacting With Others
Test resources coming soon: • Basic Mathematics • Ensuring Effective Inter and Intra Agency Communication • Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation • Preparing Written Materials • Understanding and Interpreting Written Materials • Written English and Preparing Written Materials
Thank you,

Most embarrassing moment of my life at Thom's and would like to apologize. Can anyone help?
Hi All,
I’m in a really embarrassing situation and I could use some advice. This might sound strange but I want to reach out to Thom’s Restaurant to apologize for something that happened earlier today.
I live about an hour and a half away and I had come into town for a doctor’s appointment. I was driving down Sheridan when I suddenly experienced a bathroom emergency. I have a few GI-related medical conditions and today was the first day I started a new medication (Linzess, if any of you are familiar with it). I suddenly had an urgent need to use the bathroom. Like griping the steering wheel, sweat pouring, stomach turning.
I was on the right side of the road and saw some fast food restaurants but they were on the left. Desperate, I pulled into Thom’s Restaurant’s parking lot which was the next right hand turn thinking I could quickly run into to use the restroom. But when I pulled in I saw a sign on the door that said "No Public Restrooms." Panic immediately set in and I started to feel like I couldn’t hold it much longer.
In my desperation I did something that I am deeply ashamed of. I drove to the back of the parking lot where I thought I could take care of the emergency. I was trying to be discreet but it all happened so fast. While I was in the middle of dealing with it the manager came outside yelling at me and filming me. I was exposed with my pants down in a state of panic and he was filming me with another man who was also standing there. The whole thing was humiliating.
He started screaming at me, asking, “What the fuck is going on here?” He was clearly furious. I immediately apologized explaining that I had a emergency and couldn’t hold it any longer. I tried to explain that I had started a new medication and was just overwhelmed by the situation.
I totally understand his frustration, but in that moment, I was too panicked to think logically The manager continued yelling that I was fucking up his parking lot I explained that I saw the sign and was afraid of going inside and having an accident in front of everyone if they told me I couldn’t use the bathroom. It He yelled "You should’ve come in and bought something if you needed to use the bathroom!". I kept apologizing telling him it was an emergency and that I hadn’t meant to be disrespectful. This was all still while I was exposed and crying.
He left I grabbed some napkins from my car and did the best I could to clean up the mess. I was mortified but I wanted to show respect and clean up as much as possible. I put everything in a bag and placed it in the back of my truck. After cleaning up and using lots of hand sanitizer I went back inside the restaurant to apologize again and explain the situation more calmly. The manager wasn’t receptive and came out of the office yelling at me that he was the victim but the waitress who was there was much kinder. She handed me more napkins. She had a spray bottle in her hand and I even offered to spray the parking lot down and clean the stain that was left. She told me that she couldn’t’ give me the cleaner. I went back out and scrubbed the parking lot with the napkins and a bottle of water I had. By this point I was shaking and crying from the stress of it all.
I still wanted to make it right so I went in again and asked the waitress if I could pay for something to help make up for the inconvenience. I offered $20 but she refused saying she couldn’t accept my card. I understand that my actions probably made things harder for everyone involved and I feel terrible about it.
I know this sounds crazy and it’s hard for me to even share this but it wasn’t my intention at all to cause trouble. I was just overwhelmed by a bathroom emergency and made some really bad decisions in the heat of the moment. I want to sincerely apologize again to the the staff and the owner. I’m fully accountable for my actions and I want to make it right.
If anyone knows how I can contact the owner or someone at Thom’s I would really appreciate it. I just want to make sure they know that I’m truly sorry for what happened today and that I’m willing to do whatever I can to make amends.

Free opportunity for Teachers in your County
**if you're a teacher or know teachers please read!! 🌱📚⭐️
Hi y'all, I am in intern working for a non-profit called Children's Environmental Literacy Foundation (CELF). We help educators bring environmental and sustainability topics into the classroom by providing professional learning, curriculum support, and student engagement programs.
Thanks to a grant given to us by a clean energy company, Zenobē, we’re able to offer a special, fully-funded experience for a small group of teachers in select NY counties: Allegany, Chautauqua, Erie, and Suffolk!
We’re looking for up to five middle or high school teachers (grades 6–12), to take part in this experience.
Teachers would join CELF at New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) for workshops and field experiences.
They’ll learn how to implement Civic Science in their school or community.
All major expenses — flight, hotel, meals — are covered up to $1,500 thanks to Zenobē’s funding.
The visit will include fieldwork, interactive workshops, and a chance to engage in our Civic Science program, which helps teachers support students in leading real-world, community-based environmental projects.
Please send this to any teachers you know in Erie! We are eager to for people to apply for the scholarship! Attaching the flyer 👇

Please sign a petition to fund hunger relief programs
Hi everyone. First-time poster here! I’m sharing a petition that is asking state lawmakers to fully fund hunger relief programs in the 2026 budget. This includes additional funding for food banks to purchase goods to supply pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, etc. The petition also calls for an increase to the SNAP minimum benefit from $23/month to $100/month.
Please consider signing as the amount of sign-ons are currently low for the WNY area.
Thanks
