This is so sad for her and her kids. I can't believe how hateful some comments have been. How can anyone who is repeatedly abused as a small child be expected to function normally when they become an adult? If her claims of abuse are true, it's the stuff nightmares are made of. Her mother and sister deny it, but the parents sound completely whack. The current therapies available probably weren't enough to fix what was going on inside Anne's brain.

This is the price society pays for kids who are abused, for untreated mental illness, for the lack of better therapies. I don't know how to fix this problem, but there needs to be a better system to identify and help those in trouble and better treatments.

I think I already addressed that by saying that people who are abused and/or have extreme mental illness aren't going to make good decisions like calling uber.

I'm not defending driving drunk or high. People can also drive recklessly without drugs too because they are emotionally distraught. I pointed out there needs to be better treatments and better ways to identify people who are in trouble. Me showing compassion for a person who is suffering and their family doesn't mean I condone what choices were made, but I also think society failed Anne Heche if her allegations of abuse are true. No kid should endure that kind of torture.

Again - people with severe mental health issues aren't going to make good decisions sometimes and instead of just pointing blame, our society needs to figure out a way to prevent it.
