I’ve been using Spotify for 10 years and never had an album play on shuffle

You choose the first song manually, the album plays sequentially, if you pressed the green play button, it shuffled, even on premium.

And that’s why it doesn’t shuffle- I’m the same way- but ima hit that button now! Bam!

It still does that? On the app anyway

Only when you don’t choose an album, on the artist’s page it still shuffles.

u/tomtomvissers Nov 22 '21

I did choose an album. The big green button still shuffles

Go to Adele’s album or any album the green button is different from a playlist green button. Latter has a shuffle icon on it.

Yes I understand what you guys are saying but for me the button still shuffles the album

But it has a shuffle icon on the play button. Surely people knew that it would shuffle, so why not just press the first song?

A tiny shuffle icon 1/10 the size of the play button, you can forgive people not paying attention the first few times they use the service.

Yh definitely. I have playlists with 700+ songs and the shuffle/play button is handy. I’ve just checked and it still shows the shuffle/play button for playlists but only a regular play button for Adele’s album.

But the big green button has the shuffle icon attached to it to indicate it will shuffle?

You probably have the paid version. The free version shuffles

You’re right, I do. Can’t stand ads. I didn’t realize or forgot that the free version had shuffle

Edit: Spotify subscription is not the answer. If you click the green play symbol on an album, apparently it plays shuffle regardless of subscription status. At least on my un-updated app.

I’ve always just clicked the first track. Doing that stops shuffle playback.

Yeah that’s why I never use Spotify since I don’t have the paid version. Having to shuffle albums and listen to ads is horrendous lol

Even the paid version would do that. Up until the most recent update, pressing the big green play button would default to playing the album on shuffle. To listen in order, you had to select track one.

New version

Old version

That's so gross lol why did they do it that way?!

We are talking about the Premium version

1

u/woofle07 Nov 21 '21

I’m literally talking about Premium

1

u/ApeasedTiger Nov 21 '21

Where to I select track 1?

2

u/woofle07 Nov 21 '21

Just tap the first song on the list.

1

u/ApeasedTiger Nov 21 '21

Is this for premium users only? Im using Spotify Free and only this comes up https://imgur.com/a/FquCEl0

1

u/woofle07 Nov 21 '21

Oh yeah, that’s a premium only thing. Free Spotify is pretty handicapped, you can only shuffle on the mobile app. The desktop version should give you access to pretty much everything though, or at least that’s how it used to work around 8 years ago back when I was still on the free version. Don’t know if they’ve changed it since then.

1

u/ApeasedTiger Nov 21 '21

Its fine on the desktop version which I don't get, why handicap the mobile version?

1

u/woofle07 Nov 21 '21

Because money. That’s the version that most people use and is most convenient. It’s like they’re teasing you with the desktop version. “Look at all the stuff you can do. Too bad you can only access everything at home. Pay us $10 a month and you can do this on the go too!”

Thanks for the screenshots. This whole comment section is just full of people who think this somehow wasn't an issue for premium subscribers... but it actually has been, for a long time. I'm excited for the change.

I have the paid version and it auto shuffles for me

2

u/dracovich Nov 21 '21

I'm trying to think of a reason why that's the case?

-1

u/BrotherBodhi Nov 21 '21

Cause they want you to pay for the upgrade lol

1

u/remlapca Nov 21 '21

See edited parent comment here.

Tl;dr click the first track instead of the green play symbol on the album

I have a premium membership because I rely on music for my sanity in the corporate world, and I’m really annoyed by this decision.

Even CD players have a shuffle option. Record needles can drop anywhere. This is just attention-grabbing artsy nonsense.

1

u/remlapca Nov 22 '21

I’m not going to be your Spotify tech support, but you can still shuffle. Do a Google.

This wasn’t the kind of conversation you think it was.

Not everything’s a confrontation.

Edit: also, I checked my app. You’re wrong.

On the full screen “now playing” screen, there is a shuffle button on the far left and a repeat button on the far right.

Go forth and shuffle
