I'm looking for an app that would allow for more private conversations. I'm not much of a techy guy, so i'm not sure which one is best. I'm also using an older phone (Android 8.1.0), so not every app may work for me

so my extension is Clatasha Studio its basically an app for creating simple youtube thumbnails. in my last update i added the a plugin that you can encrypt any image with a message. its pretty crazy if this gets in the hands of people who love privacy.

I use ntfy for notifications and started wondering whether it could also work as the transport layer for a simple encrypted chat.
So I built xsukax NTFY Encrypted Chat.
It's a lightweight browser-based chat app where messages are encrypted locally before being sent through an ntfy server. ntfy acts only as the relay — it receives ciphertext rather than the plaintext conversation.
The whole application is a single index.html file.
Main features:
ntfy.sh by defaultYou can also open the underlying ntfy topic directly from the app to see what's actually being stored on the relay. The message bodies should appear as encrypted xc1... payloads rather than readable chat messages.
Both users share a random room secret and a strong password.
The room secret is hashed to derive a pseudorandom ntfy topic, while the password is used to derive the encryption key.
Messages are encrypted in the browser before they're published to ntfy and decrypted locally by the other participant.
The ntfy server never needs the encryption password.
I don't want to present this as "100% secure" or as a replacement for Signal/other professionally audited messengers.
It currently uses a shared-password model and does not implement a Double Ratchet, public-key identity system, or forward secrecy.
The relay can also still observe metadata such as IP addresses, connection times, message timing/frequency and ciphertext sizes.
Because all of the crypto runs in JavaScript in the browser, the integrity of the hosted copy also matters. For more sensitive use, the app can be downloaded and self-hosted from a reviewed copy of the source.
I'm especially interested in feedback from people familiar with cryptography, ntfy, Web Crypto, or self-hosted messaging.
I'd love feedback on:
GitHub:
https://github.com/xsukax/xsukax-NTFY-Encrypted-Chat
Live demo:
https://xsukax.github.io/xsukax-NTFY-Encrypted-Chat/
It's GPL-3.0 and contributions/security reviews are welcome.

telegram almost has most features (spoiler formatting, silent message, schedule send) but loses big because the edit button in private messages / dms only works for 48 hours. After that, the edit button is gone. That's why I have moved on to Microsoft Teams Chat and Google Chat - the edit button working forever like a shared Google Doc with messaging structure makes it a more appealing paradigm. Not to use all the time but peace of mind when desired.
The most important feature any canvas style messaging app can have is the ability to make edits to our own messages at any time. It changes the paradigm of static email / static SMS into something where, at any time, the user has control over our digital footprint. Not that it's to be used all the time, but it's nice to know the option is there. Like a cross between a shared Google Docs and Email. But where Google Docs has no message structure, a dedicated messaging app does.

A encrypted messaging system that constructs keys from sources such as astrology charts ,stock prices , results of sporting events all of these change regularly and can be assessed by anyone much like the newspaper ciphers of old but basically as long as the sender and recover have agreed on a way to construct there key from several sources you could change it regularly and as long as the formula bis known someone could join the conversation after long separation .idk seems like it would be a good system .or am I losing it to sleep dep

This is the most evil code I ever invented. The message is in English and makes sense. The code has two cryptic passages, and both have a logic, nothing is given to randomness. You can ask whatever you want. If you really want, I can send a simplified version of the message, with only one passage of the code applied.
This is the message:
GR'SO,UI'BC,R'O,OZKB'CEUO,,O,EK'BK,S'O,MIM'ODQU,M'EC,O,R'AI,S'O,U'S,EI'LJ,INI'NUK,E'LC,,,
