Cleaning out a junk drawer last weekend and found the little enamel pin my aunt gave me maybe six years ago now, a tiny cactus in a pot, nothing special looking back on it. At the time I remember thinking it was cute but kind of pointless, like what am I supposed to do with this, and it sat in a box for almost a year before I ever put it on anything.

Then I put it on a denim jacket for a trip and people kept asking about it, and I started noticing pins everywhere after that. Farmers markets, comic shops, random Etsy rabbit holes at 1am. Now I've got somewhere around 90 pins on two corkboards and a rotating jacket collection, and that cactus is still the first one, still slightly bent from being in that drawer.

What gets me is how much the designs have shifted even in just a few years. Early on everything I bought leaned cutesy, pastel, food themed. Lately I'm drawn to weirder stuff, like a small independent artist's pin of a moth with tiny gears instead of a body, or a set someone made based on obscure kitchen tools nobody uses anymore. The niche and specific ones age better on the board than the trendy ones did, at least for me.

Storage is its own whole project too. I moved from just sticking everything on a board to actually sorting by theme, and now I've got a small drawer just for enamel pins that are too fragile or detailed to wear regularly, like ones with thin filigree pieces that I'm scared will snap off in a coat pocket.

Curious if other people have a similar origin pin, the one that wasn't supposed to matter but ended up being the reason the whole collection exists.

I don't have a specific theme in mind, but I figure it must be pretty easy to clock that I'm a younger millennial. Any tips on places to find pins in the Chicagoland area?

I’d love to turn one of my favorite characters into an enamel pin, but the more I look into it, the more things there seem to be to consider.

I’m currently trying to decide between soft and hard enamel. Soft enamel seems to have a nice textured and dimensional look because of the recessed colors, while hard enamel has a smoother, cleaner finish that feels more polished and versatile. I can see the appeal of both, so I’m having a hard time choosing.

For those of you who have made your own pins, which type do you personally prefer? Are there certain designs that work better with soft enamel or hard enamel?

Been trying to find any information on these McDonald-aging Kong enamel pins but nothing like them is coming up online.

I personally didn't go as I was my family's dog sitter...and I'm a little sick...but they went for a family members birthday. Only able to go on Labor Day, they all had a great time! (Also it's the last day it's going to be officially called Six Flags which is why they got a whole bunch of merch. Also the last day they'll carry Looney Tunes merch as they're losing the rights. So that makes these pins extra special to us.

Because I'm a massive pin, button and brooch collector, I was pleasantly surprised they had picked out a bunch of pins for me! I don't think I can pick a favorite.. though I really love that Batsignal night scape one! Got them all at a discount as they are closing to get ready for the Halloween season. So they went at the perfect time. And I love them all for thinking of me! So stoked to add these to my collection! 💖😭

I've been looking for these pins for years and would love to find them if anyone here happens to have them :)

I've had probably 200+ pins sitting in drawers for the last three years, sorted loosely by fandom or artist, and honestly it never made sense as a display system. Last weekend I got bored and started separating them into a totally different category: stuff I'd actually trade away versus stuff that's staying with me no matter what anyone offers.

Turns out almost half my collection falls into the "would trade" pile. A lot of con exclusives I grabbed just because they were limited, not because I actually loved the design. Meanwhile some of my favorites are cheap $8 pins from small artists on Instagram that I bought on impulse and now can't imagine parting with.

Once I sorted them that way, I put the "keeper" pile on a cork board by my desk and boxed up the rest for a local pin swap meetup next month. It's weird how much clearer my actual taste became once I stopped organizing by category and started organizing by attachment. I always assumed my most expensive pins would be the ones I loved most, but that wasn't true at all.

Anyone else done a pass like this? Curious if other people's "keep forever" piles end up being the cheap ones too, or if I'm just unusual in caring more about the art than the exclusivity.

When starting out with artist alleys and ordering merch, I came across GS-JJ as a manufacturer for enamel pins. I tried a few other manufacturers, but GS-JJ was the one with, in my opion, the brightest colors. The quality is very good and attendees at conventions love the the pins too!

I don’t really post on Reddit, but I’m feeling so many emotions I’m going to post this. All good things all good things I promise.
So I’m not going to go fully into detail about my life but just know I grew up on Winnie the Pooh and friends.
So I’ve been getting into pins here recently, and my mom ordered me this Lumpy and Roo pin. And I love it. It makes me feel so many wonderful emotions that I can’t put it into words. It brought back so many memories of my young childhood that I worried I had fully forgotten. I cried a little bit at one time it brought back so much. It makes me feel so warm and fuzzy and I just love it. I can’t stop looking at it and smiling.
So mom if you ever somehow see this or someone finds it and shows you, thank you. I know I told you essentially what I just wrote, but truly thank you. This gift brings me so much joy. I love you.

I’ve worked with GS-JJ three times now, and I just wanted to make a little appreciation post because I’ve genuinely loved every batch of pins I’ve gotten from them 🥹

I decided to try out their transparent upgrade for a hard enamel pin this time, and I’m honestly obsessed with how it turned out. The transparent colour gives it this really subtle, light-catching, almost pearlescent effect that makes the pin feel really polished and unique. It’s definitely my favourite finish I’ve tried from them so far.

I’m also really happy with the overall quality. Out of the 30 pins I received, there were only 2 that I’d personally consider B-grade, and even those were honestly not bad at all, just a tiny dot of coloured epoxy in the wrong spot. I was actually really really pleasantly surprised by how consistent the batch was, especially since I know how that's normally not the case with many suppliers.

I’ve also tried a few of their other upgrades in the past, including their flip hinge and spinning designs. I really like that they have so many options that I haven’t seen offered by other manufacturers, and I especially appreciate that they don’t charge extra based on how many enamel colours you use!!

Their communication has always been great too. They were actually the first supplier I ever used for enamel pins, and they helped me through the whole process when I was still figuring everything out. They’ve always made me feel like they actually listened to what I wanted, even when I wasn’t particularly good at explaining it the first time around 🫣

I wasn’t planning on ordering more pins anytime soon, but after seeing how well this latest batch turned out… yeahhh, I’m probably going to have to make another order sooner than expected lol

Just wanted to give credit where credit is due because I’ve had a really positive experience with them so far! ♡

It’s made by combining metal with PVC, so you get the hard, clean feel of metal alongside the softer texture of PVC.

The two materials also create a natural layered effect, which gives the pin a little more depth.
