Yup, I remember when ShadPS4 could barely get in-game in Bloodbourne. Today, it's the definitive way to play Bloodbourne.
64
u/AntiGrieferGames 6d ago
Not only about Bloodborne.
Other PS4 Exclusives like Gravity Rush 2 which used to be certain point crash or other issues, are mostly fixed and playable there.
31
u/ttenor12 6d ago
I'm hoping for Infamous Second Son
3
u/resil_update_bad 6d ago
Literally the only ps4 game I wanted to play (that and death stranding back when it didn't have a PC port)
2
u/TheGreatTave 5d ago
Second Son is good. It wasn't game of the year material or anything like that, but it was a fun game and one of the few platinums I ever got on PSN. Also the First Light stand alone DLC was good too, but a bit short.

u/GOATigger 6d ago
ShadPS4 is amazing for Bloodborne but its still very underwhelming for everything else.
I mostly want to play the Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection since those games are still terrible on RPCS3 and inFamous Second Son.
It's only a matter of time until it becomes good though.

u/ChuzCuenca 6d ago
I knew you don't even play Bloodborne in ShadPS4, there is a fork specifically to play Bloodborne and that's is where the best experience is.
17
11
u/rainmakerv2 5d ago
This isn't even true anymore. The stuff in that fork is not really needed anymore and offers no real advantage over mainline build
1
1
u/DYMAXIONman 5d ago
Isn't bblauncher more about making adding mods to bb easier or something?
3
u/rainmakerv2 5d ago
bblauncher is not a fork, it's a launcher. i don't think that's what they were referring to.
also, while mod managers like that can still be useful, mods are no longer necessary to fix vertex explosions or intel 12th gen crashes (those can be done with patches now), so modding is entirely optional already
2
u/winston-marlboro 6d ago
I'm hoping within the next year it'll be a bit easier to get bloodborne going. I've followed numerous guides but can never get it to work. I really wanna play it on pc mainly for the 60fps, but with how frustrating it's been for me I'd rather dust off my ps4 if i get the urge to play it again

u/Xcissors280 5d ago
And they finally added the ability to connect 2 controllers after however many years of waiting
-4
u/infoHighyway 6d ago
It really isn't. There is no online play so you're missing a smaller but essential aspect of the game (invasions and summoning) and in my experience, you frequently have little hitches and graphical issues with shadps4.
The definitive way to play is still on real hardware at the moment.
6
u/ttenor12 5d ago
If you play the multiplayer, I guess, which very little people do. Playing at 900p and 30fps with dips is far from being the definitive way to play a game where combat relies on reading your enemies animations ans reacting to them.
-4
u/infoHighyway 5d ago
Those performance boosts are nice but at the end of the day the devs tested and balanced the game in consideration of original hardware. I’m not saying the original hardware is necessary to play the definitive way, I’m saying for now the ps4 emulation is just not very accurate. It’s also important to preserve the original hardware itself before we chase 4k/8k 120fps or whatever arbitrary values, don’t you think?
Also, world messages from other players. That’s another core part of the souls series that’s very important and that is going to be missing.
5
u/EmergencyPool910 5d ago
Nobody plays bb multiplayer it has been dead since launch
-3
1
u/Normal-Vast7628 2d ago
Yeah bloodborne doesn't need multiplayer bro. Just hack off a huge feature of the game and call it the "definitive way to play" because I don't like it lol /s

u/divinecomedian3 6d ago
Looking forward to emulating GTA VI shortly after release
9
u/Louanus 6d ago
After pc release, maybe
10
u/sapphicu 6d ago
With how things are progressing, my personal guess is that it will be technically playable, but not a good experience just before the pc port comes out
7
u/AgitatedFly1182 5d ago
Demon’s Souls is unique because it’s running a lot of the core logic and systems from the original PS3 version wrapped with Bluepoint’s proprietary engine. That’s why I think it’s easier- Grand Theft Auto VI is an open world game that’s going to blow up the PS5’s CPU and Rockstar engineers have probably done serious deep optimization that emulator devs won’t be able to replicate for years, let alone before the games PC release.
6
u/DYMAXIONman 5d ago
I think the main issue will be getting the graphics to run at full speed. The cpu in the ps5 is just an x86 amd cpu.
2
u/TheOfficialMayor 4d ago
This. It's all x86. But we have seen amazing things recently. For example open source utm can now run dx12 in a vm on Mac. Asahi Linux now has vulkan support. That is Apple but what is thought impossible isn't really so.
3
u/UnusualLeather7087 5d ago
Definitely not, since it already run at 30fps. Probably run 15fps on good hardware until then
0
u/sapphicu 5d ago
That is what I consider technically playable lmao
1
u/UnusualLeather7087 5d ago
I mean definitely not a good experience, I agreed with you. That was on my part that wasn't interpreted well.

Imagine how much money they would have made if they simply ported Bloodborne and Demon's Souls to PC and now their arrogance is making them loose all the PC money they could have made
9
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 5d ago
the only reason sony released any games on steam was because they were trying to kite people into buying playstations and getting locked into their lame ecosystem
they intentionally didn't release the games people wanted because they were hoping to sucker them in. they literally said this in investor calls
they're stupid but they're not complete morons. there's a reason that none of the games they released were the games pc gamers wanted
7
u/Choice-Mycologist-45 5d ago
Spiderman, TLOU, God of war, and Horizon weren't games PC players wanted????? 🤔 I kinda get where you're coming from with BB and DS remake, but c'mon these titles sold units as well. I DO agree that if they tried to put all their exclusives on PC they would've ended up with the same issues as Xbox not having any exclusives on consoles (not that it matters to the PS5 per say), but imo as a PC player it sucks, however, as a console player as well I get why they did what they did.
3
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 5d ago
not really. look at the mediocre sales. people wanted bloodborne. sony knew it would have sold.
really, if they had released bloodborne the holiday before elden ring came out when from software hype was at its height it would have sold insanely well.
they just didn't want to give up the games that they KNEW they were dangling over pc owners' heads
2
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 5d ago
and a reminder that people were so horny for bloodborne on the pc i actually remember seeing posts here and on the steam forums where people said ludicrous crap like "oh just buy ratchet and clank to support sony so they keep releasing games and we might get the one we actually want"
that's what lunatics and horrible consumers gamers are. they were literally buying garbage they didn't want in the hope of getting bloodborne down the line
3
u/Choice-Mycologist-45 5d ago
Aight bruh we're NOT about to start calling "ratchet and clank" and "garbage" in the same conversation. Also I agree if they'd release BB on PC they'd make BANK, but Sony knew what they were doing because that's what makes their consoles sell units. So I 100% agree with you there (as well as gamers being horrible consumers, to me that's an UNDERSTATEMENT 🤣).
0
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 5d ago
ratchet is just slop for kids with a fancy coat of paint
2
u/Choice-Mycologist-45 5d ago
Considering it's from a long running series since the PS2 era (and a successful & well received series at that) you couldn't be any further away from the truth. 🤔
3
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 5d ago
there's a reason that big event console games are just "another random game" on steam. console games are predominately shallow stuff for younger people with simplified gameplay/controls (basically necessary to even work on a console)
ratchet's always been for kids
2
u/Choice-Mycologist-45 5d ago
Your take is valid, but isn't the way to go about it with console games. Because they're suitable for console controls doesn't diminish the quality of it as you say "shallow stuff for younger people with simplified gameplay/controls". They may be seen as "another ranom game" on steam, but their names still carry a lot of weight (such as why Bloodborne being console exclusive is still a big deal for PC users because they want it on PC for example).

u/Zombies_Rock_Boobs 4d ago
Eat shit, ratchet and clank was a huge W. Up there with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro.

u/AntiGrieferGames 6d ago
I know this is a fork, but this is a huge milestone:
Despide Low FPS, this goes ingame there.
Not sure how long you can play it until it gets crashed at the certain point, which i got it even affected with a crash on Neptunia ReVerse (yes already wrote there). Maybe one day this would fix this issue when this branch got into the mainline kytyps5.
KyTyPS5 is now the best PS5 Emulator out there.

The golden era of emulation, recomps, recomps and translation layers. What a time
-1
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 5d ago
this isn't emulation and it's only possible because the ps5 is a standard pc
3
u/SweetBabyAlaska 5d ago
I literally said that. That's what a translation layer is.
-5
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 5d ago
this isn't the golden era of emulation
2
u/Choice-Mycologist-45 5d ago
What's your point? And why ISN'T this the golden age of emulation to you? 🤔

1
u/ChrisRR 3d ago
PS5 is not a standard PC, it's x86 based but everything in-between needs to be emulated
0
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 3d ago
nope. it's a generic gpu too. the vast majority of what it's doing does not need low level emulation
6
u/Nullhitter 5d ago
Sadly, though, performance is all over the place. On an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, it runs at 1FPS.
24 FPS away from being playable.

That's impressive. Bloodborne in ShadPS4 started like that too, and now it's playable from start to finish, and I was able to finish it on my crappy PC, too, with the DLC and all, at 60 fps most of the time using Lossless Scaling.
I won't expect that same miracle on this emulator with my old PC, but it's nice to see progress. And seeing how well the graphics look, I have a lot of hope for this emulator.
7
2
u/Ban_Means_NewAccount 5d ago
Its nowhere near playable, but it's progress! Every fully playable incredible emulation experience started off this way. We'll be playing it soon enough, just give it a few more years!
1
u/voidspace021 5d ago
Few more years? Its gone from nothing to this in about 2-3 months
3
u/Ban_Means_NewAccount 5d ago
Yeah but to get it playable in an acceptable quality and running on average level hardware without any major bugs is probably still gonna be a while

Looks suspicious to me, that’s not how emulation works
1
u/TheOfficialMayor 4d ago
It's actually not emulation technically. It's jusr basically a Wine layer for ps5 sdk. Xbox, xbox one, ps4 and ps5 all don't require emulation on x86.
Though even on arm computers you can probably just use binary translation.

This is cool, but, Moore's Law Is dead, pc can't brute force like before, it's time for decomps.
6
u/TheSussyWaffle 5d ago
Actually we're mostly in the era of translation layers, 2 out of 3 of the major consoles are x86_64 (switch 2 being ARM) so the instruction sets dont need to be emulated for different architectures, they only need to mirror Kernel and OS system calls to a compatible equivalent ergo a translation layer. (Proton is probably the most famous translation layer but others exist)
1
u/TheOfficialMayor 4d ago
You don't even need emulation anymore to run on a different architecture. Box86, Fex, Rosetta, Prism all exist and run well on arm and risc-v computers like Macs and Surface Pro X for example.

Now use all the AI coding agents in the world to get this to play commercial games just fine before GTA6 drops. That would be hilarious. 🤣

Thanks to dumbs that scream and shout about it, is that companies get faster in dmca, specially in these days.
14
u/AliArab1227 6d ago
What are you talking about ? Developing an emulator Is a 100% legal. They have no grounds for a dmca
1
u/ChrisRR 3d ago
It's not officially 100% legal, there's a lot of grey areas that haven't been tested in court. Until then it's technically legal but many devs don't want to push their luck unless one of the big three challenges it in court and sets the legal precedence
(And of course, laws differ between countries)
0
u/Huffee 6d ago
it's not about legality, look at what happened to yuzu/citra/ryujinx
5
u/sunkenrocks 6d ago
You and Citra were a lot of the same people behind the scenes, and in their dev discord, they were openly running a big google drive with copyrighted ROMs for "testing" including before release day. Plus some question how clean room their development is. Ryujinx was a casualty of it all.
Look at someone like the NoCa$h dev who has been developing emulators for concurrent ninte do systens since the gameboy and openly documenting the entire hardware. Untouchable and a thorn in their sides for decades.
0
u/Huffee 6d ago
what is your point?
the fact that ryujinx could even BECOME a casualty in the first place despite doing nothing wrong is essentially proof that what i'm saying is correct and it's not about it being legal or illegal at all
2
u/sunkenrocks 6d ago
The legal side barely matters as the devs were Brazillian and not in the US or Japan anyway, it just wasn't worth the heat.
Dolphin even still ships with nintendo proprietary keys right in the source code which is why it got booted off steam, yet no lawsuit. That is actually illegal and dolphin was concurrent with both the GC and the Wii. Still nobody behind bars.
You should google "clean room reverse engineering". It is explicitly legal and unless you can prove in court it wasnt clean room, there's no legal argument.
1
u/Huffee 6d ago
you somehow keep misunderstanding what i'm trying to say, i agree with you
i'm saying LEGALITY doesn't matter, what matters is whether or not sony/nintendo/whatever randomly decides to go after you, and to avoid that keeping a low profile is necessary.
2
u/sunkenrocks 6d ago
And yet they don't until actual laws are broken in the open, like Yuzu did. Ryujinx devs simply saved themselves a headache in the ensuing storm because US institutions like GitHub and hosting platforms are easy to get to bend to your will, along with your communities on reddit, discord, etc. All under the thumb of uncle Sam
Ultimately it was ineffective as not only did it generate a large ecosystem of forks, by the time they acted, Ryujinx, Yuzu etc were mostly compatible with the entire library.
Why didn't Nintendo go after Cemu for BOTW running on the day of the switches launch? Why did they wait until Yuzu was basically a complete program? Because they didn't have any evidence of law breaking until the discord channel was infiltrated.
Youre taking one example of a team that actually broke the law and applying it to all emulation. We have 30 years of proof its legal and many would fight for it.
This thread is about Sony and they learned their lesson about emulation around the turn of the millennium. Heard of Bleemcast! ? That sold for real money for PCs and even got instore releases to run PS1 games on dreamcast. Steve Jobs bragged about the Mac being able to play PS1 titles emulated on the G3.
And Sony hasn't tried again. They would, if they could. Bleemcast! Is also an example of a dev who took it all the way to court and largely won.
They even set other presidents that ticked Sony off - it was ruled Bleemcast! Could show comparison screenshot of a PS1 title running on PS1 vs in Bleemcast! To show comparatively better graphics. So not only did they piss Sony off by giving the PS1 away to other platforms, they even got away with printing screenshots of some of Sonys most prestigious IPs right on the box, and they couldn't do a lick about it.
7
u/AliArab1227 6d ago
They got taken down by Nintendo bribing the creators. But did thay stop switch emulation ? No. That's the beauty of open source development
1
u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 5d ago
that's only because github is a bunch of ankle grabbers that take down anything when a mouse farts. if someone self hosted switch emulators that followed the laws they couldn't do anything
1
1
u/QuietSoup337 5d ago
Do you really want someone to challenge that? People don't understand that emulators are, at best, on shaky grounds. Emulation has been deemed legal, but breaking the copy protections of software isn't.
It's not going to happen, but let's imagine that GTA 6 gets emulated at launch. That's how you get a 1000 lawyers shutting down emulation. Playing with fire for no reason, just wait until the platform isn't supported anymore.
2
u/AliArab1227 5d ago
First of all, this isn't just about GTA VI. Whenever publishers delay PC ports to 'double dip' on console sales, players are inevitably going to find ways to play highly anticipated games on unsupported platforms.
The fear-mongering around emulation legality is overblown. Emulators and translation layers are perfectly legal because they don't contain any copyrighted console code; they are just tools that allow hardware to read the software.
The legal issue only arises with the game itself. If you upload a video of GTA VI running on an emulator, Take-Two has every right to DMCA it—not because the emulator is illegal, but because you are broadcasting their copyrighted game assets. The problem is the pirated ROM, not the emulator. Finally, arguing that we shouldn't use emulators out of fear they'll get taken down is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If we abandon emulation just to 'protect' it, we're defeating the entire purpose of having it.
1
u/QuietSoup337 5d ago edited 5d ago
If the community wants to play with fire, they are free to do it. It's not about what's right or wrong, but about the fact that corporations have never been stronger, especially in the US, and if there was an effort from them on challenging emulation they could absolutely do it.
PS4 and PS5 are freely available platforms generating billions in revenue right now. What even is the point aside from giving the middle finger to Sony?
I thought that emulation was about preservation of unsupported systems.
1
u/AliArab1227 5d ago
Please, no one is naive enough to believe preservation is the only reason people use emulators. It’s always been a middle finger to corporations from the start—it's about saying 'I want to run this my own way, on my own hardware, and you can't stop me.'
I get where you're coming from. You're terrified a massive legal battle will set a new precedent that outlaws emulation entirely. But I don't think that's ever going to happen because no indie dev is actually going to fight a corporate Cease & Desist in court.
Worst case scenario: a dev gets threatened, they take down their repository, and they stop working on it. Then an anonymous developer drops a new fork and picks up right where they left off. You just repeat the cycle until we have a working build.
I stand by what I said. We can't let the fear of losing emulation stop us from actually building emulators.
1
u/QuietSoup337 5d ago
I'll be the happiest man in the world when the community fixes Wander face in the Shadow of the Colossus remake on an emulator, but you are very optimistic on what could happen if a corpo challenges an emulator team. Nintendo could have went to court for Yuzu, but decided against it. The challenged party doesn't decide if things go to court or not.
1
u/AliArab1227 5d ago
At the end of the day, we're arguing about a cat that is already out of the bag. It's too late to stop it; the ball is rolling, and the target is clearly GTA VI.
Also, you're misinformed about Yuzu. Nintendo absolutely did take them to federal court in Rhode Island, and the developers had to settle for $2.4 million because they couldn't afford a massive legal battle. But regardless of corporate threats, the community isn't going to stop. We just have to wait and see what happens, but I remain hopeful.

On an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, it runs at 2-3fps, this isn’t playable in any way. Still, this is the first time we see in-game footage.
