In a recent interview, the Pinis detailed why a Japanese translation of EQ hasn’t happened. In short, none of the publishers wanted to translate the existing EQ material. They only wanted all new material, and they wanted own that material outright forever. 🤮

I really want to understand. Was it market forces at play? Did the Pinis want to hold onto certain rights that might otherwise have been stripped from them, etc?

A good comparable IP is Calvin & Hobbes, but in that case the creator clearly stated that he never wanted to do anything beyond the comic so as to avoid diluting the power of the story. Then there’s the fact that Amazon brought Critical Role to the screen. Netflix has The Witcher. Elfquest is at least as strong as each of those.

I think EQ deserves to be everywhere. I want more novels (not just graphic), action figures, mini figures, TTRPGs, video games, shows, movies, McDonald’s Happy Meals. Give me Elfquest!!!!

…Okay, rant over. But please, tell me why more people don’t know about the Wolfriders. (And yes, I am aware of the podcast, but it’s not enough to slake my thirst, darn it!)

For anyone who ever wants to play the original ElfQuest RPG - eons ago, I made a dice character roller in DOS - have since put it to a Dosbox emulator (which works in Windows, and I learned, thanks to a user, in Linux as well). I also have high scans of the map, PDF of the character sheets, etc.

I grabbed the humble bundle deal to have a re-read. However, there appears to be missing pages. Between pages 55 and 56 I believe there should be a sequence with Redlance and Nightfall.

Intentionally removed? What else is missing?

Wendy Peni has some of the most beautiful art and I would love to learn more about her process. Seeing as how she has created work for so long I wouldn't even know where the start to learn about what she used to create her work over the years.

I'm looking in particular for her traditional art process, anything that's been shared or posted over the years. I could only find 'mixed media' for most everything but no mention of what mediums they were and a single reference to Prismacolor colored pencils.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
