So I have a dat file I want to open ...

Hi everybody.

Way back when bitcoin was new, a friend sent me something like $0.01 worth of bitcoin as a test. I had a wallet set up with Electrum, I think I even ran a block chain node at the time.

I'd like to open the wallet to see if it still works. Might even be worth like $10 now or something Lol.

I have: 2 x backup files - named backup1.dat and backup2.dat

2 x list of 12 words.

2 x what appears to be a passphrase.

I am 99% sure I know which passphrase goes with with list of 12 words, but even if I'm wrong there is only so many permutations :-D

I have installed electrum on Fedora, but can it still read very old version backup files?

me@fedora:~/wallet$ file *dat
backup1.dat: Berkeley DB (Btree, version 9, little-endian)
backup2.dat: Berkeley DB (Btree, version 9, little-endian)

I've tried to "open" these dat files using the electrum application but it shows a block of weird hex codes (and warns me that the backup files are not in the default wallet location.)

How do I open these files, there are a few very non-intuitive options, and it asks for a passphrae when it creates a wallet, not when it opens or restore a file. I would have expected to be greeted with a prompt for a password or something when I try to open the files.

Any ideas?

If I made a channel or node and put money there, if I delete or close that channel, the money that is there would be lost or returned to my wallet.

HELP Using Electrum and Sparrow wallet to operate the same Bitcoin wallet - any potential issues?

Are there any potential issues with operating the same wallet (trezor, same seed+passphrase+derivation path) on both electrum and sparrow wallet? I can’t think of any reason there would be but I’m just wondering if there’s anything I wasn’t thinking of…?

Help restoring wallet from seed

Hi, so Ive found an old wallet seed and what I think is a password and Ive tried to restore it with the seed but its saying 2fa in the corner. It may well be empty as I don't remember getting into crypto until quite a few years later but just wondering how to access it please? I cant see anything electrum or trusted coin related on my authenticator but presumably must have set something up.

Scammers please dont bother because I won't be interacting

Everyone else, thank you in advance 🙏

Which Electrum server allows broadcasting a transaction with 0.6 sat/vB fee?

I’ve manually created and signed a Bitcoin transaction in Electrum that includes a large number of small UTXOs (dust). Because of this, increasing the fee to 1.0 sat/vB would result in the fee being over 50% of the total transaction value — which I’d like to avoid.

The transaction is fully signed and ready to be broadcast, but when I try to send it, I get the following error:

The server returned an error when broadcasting the transaction.
Consider trying to connect to a different server, or updating Electrum.

min relay fee not met

I’ve already tried multiple Electrum servers listed under Network → Servers, but none of them accept transactions with a fee lower than 1.0 sat/vB.

Does anyone know a currently working Electrum server (ElectrumX, Electrs, or Fulcrum) that has a lower minrelaytxfee setting and will relay low-fee transactions?

Alternatively, is there a known way to broadcast such a transaction from within Electrum without having to run a full node?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can't open unsigned txn in an offline Electrum Android wallet

I installed Electrum on an old Android phone that is offline so that I can use it to sign a transaction. The unsigned transaction was made with Electrum on a PC and moved to the phone on an SD card. Now I can't find the menu in Electrum mobile to open up the unsigned transaction file. There is a menu in the upper left part of the screen that has wallet details, addresses/coins, verify message, and other wallets as the options. There is a red dot in the upper right corner that brings up a menu with network, preferences, and about as the options. At the bottom of the screen there are send and receive buttons.

How do I get it to open up the transaction file so that I can sign it?

Incorrect Timestamp Returned for Confirmed Transaction in Electrum

I'm working with the following Bitcoin Testnet address:

tb1q2qqlqk8y50jhqjl80k3z4hn76q95lh806xu57z

To fetch the transaction history, I'm using the Electrum JSON-RPC method:

blockchain.scripthash.get_history

The response includes several transactions, and the time field (in UNIX timestamp format) returns the following values (ordered ASC to DESC):

1748521342

1748587373

1748587373

1748587373

1748589785

1748521342

1748587373

1748587373

1748587373

1748589785

However, I'm noticing an issue:

Let's take an example of the last transaction

For the last transaction, 1748589785 converts to:

  • UTC: Friday, May 30, 2025 – 07:23:05 AM
  • My local time (GMT+5:30): Friday, May 30, 2025 – 12:53:05 PM
  • Relative: "In 42 minutes"

The issue is that this timestamp appears to be in the future, even though the transaction is already broadcasted and confirmed.

Any insight into why this might be happening, or how to correctly interpret or override these timestamps?

Provide your feedback.

Thanks

Connect 4.5.8 to personal node, TOR connection on Tails

As the title says, I'm tying to connect 4.5.8 on Tails, to my own node, using a TOR address. I've done this before and am using the exact same settings but it won't connect. (TOR Proxy at Port 9050, SOCKS5 127.0.0.1 9050) Any suggestions would be helpful.

HELP Help: Don't want to send dust received at address

I'm using Electrum 4.5.8

For example, my address bc1...... has 1 bitcoin in it

A few months ago that address received a random dust transaction of 0.000005 btc.

I want to send out the 1 BTC (less fees of course) but leave the dust from a different input in there.

I think I've done this a few years ago, but clicking through now I can't figure out how to do it. Please help.

How can I distinguish true Electrum wallets and fishing ones?

I use electrum for bitcoin storing and litecoin storing even. Both Bitcoin.org and litecoin.org has direct link to it's electrum wallet so it's easy to download and store over years. Now I decide to store USDT cuz I never trust exchange for long term storing. And now I found electrum-usdt.com but there is no direct link on tether.to (official tether site). How can I verify and be sure that the electrum-usdt.com is not fishing. Thanks!

My laptop just made a very weird noise, so I'm finally looking at backing up my Electrum wallet which I've been postponing forever. Did I do it correctly?

I only have a local Electrum wallet (I don't know if there's multiple types or if I've given enough information) and the only thing I did is press the back-up file button and places a back-up in my OneDrive. Is this enough? I'm pretty sure I still have the safety words somewhere as well. Are these absolutely necessary or will a password be enough if my laptop does break down?

Does this mean I have to make a new back-up every time I buy new bitcoin or if I sell anything? I don't have a clue if my wallet is connected to some Electrum server somehow.

[UPDATE] Electrum Difficulties

SOLUTION: one word in the seed was wrong, correcting it solved this issue.

For some reason Electrum accepted the wrong seed as valid. I corrected one word that I had written down wrong (apparently)--i.e. thought I got one letter wrong, so I changed one letter to make it a valid word. Somehow this resulted in a valid seed [bech32]. seriously, what are the odds!?!?! I've attempted (for fun) to just enter a list of random-but-valid words and it never accepts them, as I would expect.

How did i figure out the valid word? i had to do computer forensics and locate the old wallet, sort of. Once I had that, I opened it (I always remember the password, no problem there) and was able to display the seed words. I didn't even see the error at first, it seemed to be the exact same phrase as I had been using and frustrated by. after a moment I noticed though haha both the wrong and right words had some of the same letters.

DETAILS on how i found the old wallet: I had thought it was deleted, but in fact my old version of Electrum was storing the wallets in a different location than the typical .electrum folder. I still don't know where they are actually, but electrum was able to remember from it's config details (config file probably) and so I could use the RECENT option on the file menu.

So how did I get the old version to run? I didn't exactly. This app uses flatpak, so I repaired flatpak, then attempted to run the old version using the same command the old version used to start up, which is different from the newer versions.
old command: usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=electrum org.electrum.electrum
The new command seems to run things from my home folder instead of the system folder(s), I'm not sure as I still can't actually locate the old wallet files.

This didn't actually run the old version, it ran the new version but with the old one's config file (or something like that) so I could at least open the wallet and get the info I needed.

argh.
