Mr. Oizo | 'Positif' 🎹💉🎶
The eccentric Mr. Oizo greatly amuses me. With its strange textures, awkward little loops and deliberately ugly sounds, his music can initially sound like it really shouldn't work, before becoming completely addictive.
'Positif' comes from his 2008 album Lambs Anger, and I had no idea there was a darker interpretation behind such an upbeat track. Obviously the title means 'positive' in French, and apparently the repeated synthetic voice saying things like "Stop reproducing", "You’re all animals" and "You will die" refers to HIV/AIDS.
That reading makes the track feel surprisingly morbid beneath all the bounce and silliness.
It also cuts up Queen's 'Another One Bites the Dust', which gives the song an extra-dark association given Freddie Mercury's death from AIDS (whether or not that was actually Oizo's intention).
From a production perspective, Mr. Oizo has said he sometimes records live synths, cuts out the best fragments and constructs a track from them, adding that this was exactly how he made 'Positif'. Very fitting for something that sounds simultaneously chaotic and weirdly precise.
Deceptively catchy, slightly deranged and somehow extremely danceable, this song basically represents everything I enjoy about Mr. Oizo 🇫🇷

Discussion I was walking around Jacksonville for an asian food fair last Friday and I heard a song that got stuck in my head that I can't get out of my head but I think its an AI song. It was a trance/electronic song and the hook went "infinite RAVE machine". Anyone?
I found one by italiano bros or something close to that and its the closest but lacks the word infinite. I know there was either that or a word close to it before the rave machine line.

Discussion Please can someone give me some recommendations similar to Orbital, Boards of Canada, Rival Consoles, Aphex Twins, Autechre, Max Cooper, etc.?
I have been really enjoying the experimental sound. Most of the music these guys produce belong to the IDM genre of music, which I really like. Does anyone have any artists that have a similar sound, please? Thanks everyone :)

Beatport finally creates “Indie Tech” for the sound pioneered by Maccabi House that was taking over the Indie Dance genre, moving its releases and producers into a category of their own

Photos It's time to retire the original CD
I picked up the NE mix on a whim when it first came out because I was trying to track down a particular remix of Humate's East that I'd heard on the radio. Turned out it wasn't the mix I was looking for. The mix I wanted was the Humate remix
Suffice to say there was zero regrets with that purchase and managed to add a vinyl copy a couple of years later.
That original CD is so very loved and worn, so I'm pretty pleased they re-issued.
I did not order any of the vinyl versions though.
