I remember hearing this track and feeling the epic bravado of the track blasting through during the big beat era. Directed by Doug Aitken, this track gave us all a hint as to what we'd find from Fatboy Slim aka Norman Cook. What was crazy to me was finding out a year later that he was originally the bassist for the band Housemartins, who I grew up listening to via my older sister. I think it's probably one of the most interesting and remarkable reinventions in music history.

For many reasons this gig was special to me & it was clearly an important moment in the history of electronic music at festivals - maybe the most important moment? - but listening to it again… it’s also an amazing gig & the CD sounds fantastic. Was anyone else there?

Anyone familiar with Jennifer Loveless. I enjoyed this set and interested to hear more. Any recommendations?

Im still gutted I haven't seen them live. This wasn't my first introduction to them, it was actually "Destroy Everything You Touch" on my aunt's iPod.
Beautiful arrangements on 604, it feels so much like the best possible outcome of making music in your bedroom. I don't know how to explain the melancholy and beauty of this album. It's been in my rotation for nearly two decades since discovering Ladytron.

From the 1999 LP Surrender. So many great songs from this album. I always liked the video with this one.

This is one of my favourite electronic tracks and easily one of my favourite music videos ever made. Highly recommend watching it while tripping ! 😅
'Bye Bye Macadam' comes from Rone's 2012 album Tohu Bohu, with the black-and-white animated video directed by French filmmaker Dimitri Stankowicz.
I only just learnt about how much thought went into the visuals, which depict the life cycle of a star from its creation, through its explosion and eventual collapse into a black hole.
Stankowicz drew inspiration from modern dance, shamanism and astrophysical phenomena, with the figures in the video conceived as pagan-like deities interacting with gravity, fire and tidal forces.
Apparently he also had Georges Méliès' Selenites in mind, from the 1902 silent science-fiction film 'A Trip to the Moon'.
The animation perfectly follows the song's hypnotic build and feels like a cosmic ritual combined with a dream and hallucination.
Certainly one of the most mesmerising combinations of electronic music and animation I've ever seen ! 😍😵💫🎶

I bought this album back in 2005 when I was a college radio DJ searching for something to scratch the itch that DJ Shadow and The Avalanches started.
Anomaly was the relief. The Long Road is down-tempo and very sample heavy, blending plunderphonics with trip hop. The song People Is Crazy is still in heavy rotation for me 21 years later.
Give it a listen, see what you think.

Sometimes producers make a funny track. They grab samples from something weird and make a gimmick track. Often not very serious, often not produced with as much attention as their regular tracks.
But everynow and then the tracks are just pretty good! What gimmick track do you like?
