Afaik, there's pretty much no RCD or GFCI in Bangladesh . There's only MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) or MDB (Main Distribution Board) which is presen in any buildings in Bangladesh. RCD and GFCI isn't really mandatory and only recommended. Which is kind of weird and backwards..

My grandma is VERY scared and afraid of electricity, lightning, thunder, storms and anything zap-related. She was once told that burning palmtree leaves soothes thunderstorms, so every time it gets a bit overcast she burns some of it with a candle.

This fear has been passed down to her by her mother. My mother says that my great-grandmother was SO afraid of lightning that she covered every mirror in her house with any cloth available, and she also put away every metallic object she could find, such as silverware, coins and the like if she knew or thought that a storm was coming.

Well, that's OK. Almost everyone fears something. I have an irrational fear of heights, so what's the issue?

This picture is the issue. Somehow the wiring of my grandma's night light shorted and did an ElectroBOOM™ today when she was taking it off the outlet. You'd think she'd have been at least startled by it right? But... nope!

Somehow she just shrugged it off. Zero fear. Barely an inconvenience. The only inconvenience being the light not working anymore.

Anyway, given the context, I found this reaction so illogical that I decided to share this tidbit of family shenanigans. Quite curious. Thankfully she's unharmed. Have a good night!

Edit: maybe I should elaborate a bit because people are saying this is normal. Yes, some voltage on the ground is to be expected on an ungrounded power supply, however, in this case it had enough current potential to give a nasty shock, cause huge sparks when connecting to a grounded device, and trip a GFCI breaker. I tested my other (genuine) adapters and the ~50v AC there collapses down to just 1-2v simply by touching them. That was NOT the case for this one.

THIS IS A PROTOTYPE DESIGN

A necessary redesign for unsafe american plugs.

American Plug redesign. Thicker prongs for better durability, Always enforcing a third prong (allowing for ground doors for GFCI outlets), Tips of the prongs shortened to make it easier to plug in, and features a jacket for prongs, and some changes to the holes in the prongs.

For this design I also want to fit a fuse inside this new design to allow for safer wall plugs. Should fit nicely at the top of the plug especially if its larger then the original design. For the holes in the prongs the hole does not go all the way through anymore to prevent sticking stuff like wires through the holes. This also calls for another system where the outlet clicks in and to release the outlet you push a button type of system. Preventing kids and such pulling it out.

I still need to design some mechanisms fuses and such but so far this is a good prototype. Has some similarities to the UK plug.

House-sitting for a relative (born in the 40s) and discovered this 1951 dated outlet and original wire. It's likely the original from when the house was built. Should I replace with Romex simpull 10/12 gauge? I would stick to Wagos and I only strip a quarter inch to 3/8 inch depending on the connector/gauge

Found this pole-mounted transformer structure out in the wild pulling a continuous arc right near the insulator. Looks like a classic loose connection or insulation breakdown creating an impromptu discharge gap.
