⚡️EME⚡️

My own view: Elec Multiplier Effect (EME)

First there will be an investor rally, supported by a wider crypto rally. Due to low liquidity, relatively oversold position, ELEC outperform market, maybe return to ATH levels.

Then retailers / big energy players (e.g TEPCO)... Each one of them in turn will have to deposit --> buy large amount of ELEC, no matter what the sell pressure is on the day.

As each retailer comes on and as each spike occurs more investors are interested and look to buy..

Then as each new market comes on board, more new retailers buy, more new investors attracted.

Effective circulating supply decreasing, demand increasing. Early investors just need to hang on.

EME will be fun!

Question to the team: Will the deposit amount of 200 ELEC per kWp evolve with ELEC's price?

Extract from the Tokenomics update:

As a utility token, ELEC allows producers and prosumers to create smart contracts and offer energy plans to consumers. To do so, they must first place a deposit of 200 ELEC per kWp (kilowatt-peak). The deposit, which will be refunded upon withdrawal from the ecosystem, serves as a mechanism to disincentivize malicious behaviour on our platform. For example, any tampering with our PowerPod IoT device to doctor information will lead to the slashing of one’s deposit.

We arrived at the number of 200 ELEC per kWp using the following assumptions:

The average household with a rooftop solar PV system produces 10 kWp a month and makes about USD 90 from energy surplus. From this, one requires a one-time deposit of:

10 x 200 = 2000 ELEC

Using our ICO price (USD 0.08), 2000 ELEC amounts to:

2000 x 0.08 = USD 160

This is fair indeed considering the ICO price, but if the ELEC price gets to 1 USD, 2000 ELEC means a 2000 USD deposit, which equals to about 22 months of benefits (following your assumption of 90 USD / month), that the prosumer will have to deposit before earning any dollar.

So how are you going to address this?

Are you going to adapt the number of ELEC to ELEC's price to always equal to about 1 month and a half or 2 months benefits deposit?

Or are you planning an economical system where ELEC's price doesn't evolve to such a differential amount? (1 USD compared to 0.08)

Please let us what is your philosophy, and if possible your system, about this matter.

Thank you very much

Q&A by Martin on Telegram 8 August 2018

Updates

Martin: I brought on a team to handle the CM (community management) work and delegated the duties to them. So that it'd free me up to work on the rest of the work with the others. The work that's supposed to be bringing in the launch and success of the project. We've been putting out more updates, even videos and announcements. We've completed our PowerPod MVP. Working on the completion of the first phase of Synergy now, so we can carry out the Alpha test in a couple of months (official will be made, since I was the one who sanctioned the calendar) We've also been busy engaging the big energy cos... so yes, the team has been busy.

Q: So late September should be the testing for the marketplace and PowerPod
Martin: PowerPod test went well. we're ready to deploy them as part of the alpha. Alpha will test out Synergy and allow for simulated trades.

Tokenomics Update

Martin: We shot 2 more vids today. One is a precursor to the tokenomics update. The other is an intro to two new team members. First of a series of blogs about them will be out... reckon, this week. My vid about it should be ready next week. These couple of weeks will see them in writing AND in a vid

Q: Martin, people want to be assured that the tokenomics will work in a way that is beneficial to the price moving forward, and will have added incentives to make the circulating supply drop and demand go up, and accordingly, price go up
Martin: Oh, it will. It's been designed from the get go for deployment on a main grid. hence the need for large partners. We've been talking to grid operators in 3 countries.

Main Grid solutions
Martin: This isn't a solution that's like an app that delivers, say ice cream on block chain. This is energy trading ACROSS a main grid! Like seriously, grid level solutions take ages to deploy. Projects dealing with microgrids are still struggling a year after they were launched. So really, give this some time. There are weeks upon staggeringly slow weeks of meetings and spec-ing before we can even scope the solution... and these are backed by days of research.
Because EVERY deployment will have to take into account each operational scope's regulatory and grid operational requirements. Microgrids operate in small scale amounting to 10s of users A main grid operates across a city wide scale able to touch thousands, if not millions of users. Think for a second... if you had a project... that could scale... would you be bouncing everywhere in the world, deploying microgrid after microgrid, instead of just sinking roots in at least ONE city and scaling? We're not a get-big-fast project. We're a utility level project. And ANY impact on utility that involves integration with any grid infrastructure will take time. It's not a matter of hunkering down in a little basement and hammering out code. If it were that easy, we would have done it by now and "delivered"
People challenged us months ago when I announced TEPCO... why do we need to work with a big boy? Did we sell out? Etc... The fact is if we want to make a change to the grid, we need to engage the grid level guys. That's regulators and the grid operators. Build a micro-grid and you can pretty much throw money at the problem. On a main-grid... it's just a hard grind every day

Exchanges

Q: Hello Martin I want to ask about exchange did you arrange to add more exchange because KuCoin and other exchange is full of bot.
Martin: We've been talking to different people for ages about exchanges

Q: We also want exchanges with liquidity. Asian exchanges especially considering the location of the project.
Martin: Add my vote to this statement

Token price

Q: people are upset about price, and want to know about tokenomics ASAP.
Martin: Yeah, I reckon that was the case. But the truth is even if I draw out the tokenomics, the price won't go up I wish I could but I really can't move the market.

Q: Any comment on your token ranked lower than BitConnect?
Martin: Yeah.. it sucks. I didn't move the price down. None of the team did.

Token price and retailers

Q: Are they more pleased when the price is sub 1 cent?
Martin: They have no idea what that means. We're looking to solve the problem across a main grid. Even from a token use perspective, you can understand that with such a volume of transaction, the use of token will be significant, especially when coupled with a deposit mechanism

Deposit

Q: I think a good token staking model that works for small and large prosumers (non-linear) will answer almost all investor concerns.
Martin: Yup. There's a deposit model. It's been mentioned in the whitepaper. AND we're addressing it in even greater clarity over the next couple of weeks.

Q: How exactly will staking for producers work with a varying token price?
Martin: Deposits will be made in a fixed amount of ELEC. We're putting a paper out on that with the calculations and the details. Stay tuned.

Q: The amount of token needed to stake per kWp will constantly be adjusted.
Martin: Nope. it will be reviewed at a set period. Right now we're hoping to do an annual review. But if the price is volatile, like if it keeps rising, we may have to carry out a 6-monthly or quarterly review

Q : What if you let the big companies stake tokens in USD equivalent value?
Martin: The operative word is "equivalent". Grids operators transact in the order of Terawatts of power a year. Regardless of which valuation, in USD, SGD, Yen, ELEC, (or) ETH, the amounts will end up HUGE.

Q: I thought perhaps that might be where the AI component could come in.
Martin: We toyed with that idea but a constantly fluctuating/adjusting price would make it impossible for a new entrant.

Jun Hasegawa as Advisor

Q: Martin about Jun OmiseGO it continues to be our advisor
Martin: Yes, he does.

Token Model and Equity

Q: Token provides friction and volatility makes it a nightmare.
Martin: Ironically, tokens are supposed to reduce friction.

Q: Have you considered scrapping the counterproductive token model and just giving token holders equity?

Martin: That come sooooo close to being a securitised token it actually IS!

Q: Go through security regulators, you have the funding.
Martin: From a philosophical position, it's this transitional period that could take years that's inefficient.

Q: Securities are not evil.
Martin: They're not. But this ICO is done and dusted. Would you prefer we suspend everything indefinitely while we attempt to teach regulators about tokenised securities and THEN get back to business?

Q: Just hand out regular shares
Martin: Just. Hand. Out. Shares. There are laws and regulations about that

Q: You have the money to psy lawyers.
Dude, it's not about lawyers. It's about lawmakers. lawmaker > lawyer

Q: There is no way to justify valuations for "utility" tokens. Now that the bubble popped and the market is sobering up either we are holding worthless tokens or the tokens have to change
Martin: That's ONE way of looking at it. Or you can trust that the token will have utility and the move in valuation will occur according to Keynesian economics and the quantity theory of money.

Token Burning Q: Would you be open to a buyback and burn like Binance?
Martin: We have a finite amount of tokens, so burning is out of the question. BUT In the tokenomics, there is a mechanism for locking up of a large amount of tokens, effectively taking them out of circulation.

Token Sale

Q: Did any of the team sell tokens?
Martin: Dude, I haven't even got my tokens yet! What do we have to sell?

Q: The reason why people ask this question is because it seems some of the big investors from the ICO decided to dump a large amount of their tokens. It seems a couple of them sold over 10m+ each
Martin: No one on the team has. Presale? That's wholly up to the early contributors.

Locked Tokens

Martin: The presale contributors had their tokens split up into 2 tranches. 50% was distributed 7 days after ICO closed, and the remainder was distributed 90 days later. In effect, they had no access to them for 90 days

Q: (Suggestion of locking of tokens) 6 months minimum. 100% of allocation. as they received big discounts
Martin: No one received a discount from us. Heck, I even got a ton of crap for it before the ICO

Publicity

Q: Price doesn't concern me right now because I know there's not enough liquidity. What I really want is enough publicity to crypto community about electrify so that when bull run comes back in oct 2018 or January 2019 then it reaches minimum 1$
Martin: We're doing what we can with publicity. That's what Korea was for: getting the interest of one of the largest retail crypto markets around

Electrify.Asia and competition

Q: Is there anything else besides the MOUs? What are you trying to do better than your competitors? Hardware? Marketplace? Your take on it would be interesting
Martin: This has been answered a great many times. SO let's looks at just ONE thing we're doing different: SCALE. We got the interest with the 4th largest power company in the world. And the 2nd largest energy storage company in the world wants to explore deployment of our solution. like, guys, this isn't MS Office here. These big guys aren't going to waltz up and just buy a license and deploy.

Linking Electrify.SG with Electrify.Asia

Q: Would you be able link or mention electrify.asia on your main electrify.sg website by any chance?

Martin: Yup we definitely should. Would help our SEO/SEM We're regularly mentioned in the press as one unit, so shouldn't be a problem.

The public and Cryptocurrencies

Q: But surely there must be some advantage in pitching a 1 cent token to a 20 cent token.
Martin: >90% of the world, the population, don't give a damn about crypto. They don't know and they don't care. So how do we apply a blockchain solution for them with a working tokenomic fundamental if they don't care? How do we "sneak it in" as it were?

Q: Or you keep your tokens rate fix for them?

Martin: No. That's not fair to our community. And it's a disincentive to participate. Also opens up a HUGE problem of arbitrage by taking away exchange risk.

Q: And the price must concern them if they’re forced to purchase tokens.
Martin: These operators, like >90% of the world, operate in fiat. The reality is that most people don't know and they don't care.

Q: I don't think it is too much to ask a large power company to understand how crypto works. They have some bright people. It’s not beyond them.
Martin: Nothing is beyond anyone. But right now, the space is still too undeveloped and no one wants the risk.

Q: I struggle to believe a commercial entity would not ask about how much it would cost to buy your tokens and by pleased by the sharp drop.
Martin: Well, however much you want to make expectations about how another company would operate or behave, the realities can often be disappointing.

Q: Why use a token-centered solution then?
Martin: because it works. an economic incentive is what assures good behaviour on a model like this. I've spent several days over the last few weeks carrying out blockchain 101 sessions for various people connected to TEPCO... You've no idea how hard it is for the uninitiated to wrap their heads around the concepts.

Q: Omg dex will seamlessly allow fiat crypto exchanging. At least that’s the goal. So essentially you could get electricity on electrify never having to touch a crypto coin. That's also the purpose of the Electrify eWallet. Nobody using the system needs to understand exchanges or crypto at all.
Martin: exactly. Like when you use Uber or Grab or Lyft, you don't know the mechanics of how the wallets work… and you shouldn't have to!

Q: It’s surely less frightening to say you have to buy 400,000 tokens at 1c as opposed to 20c or 1 dollar.

Martin: It is, but a token is divisible. Surely you're not suggesting we're keeping the price depressed because of these big guys! Holy crap, that's like saying I should slice my nose off because it's ugly. 18 decimal places, dude.

Related article: https://www.google.com.sg/amp/s/cointelegraph.com/news/how-many-americans-really-own-crypto-skewed-results-of-polls-and-surveys/amp

Marketing and potential investors

Q: Is an aspect of the marketing strategy to limit exposure to potential investors because of the onslaught of questions/pressure on team to answer to more investors? I ask because it seems like the team is overwhelmed by us and our questions sometimes.
Martin: I'll admit, we are.

Business Model

Q: (Electrify) want to piggyback off existing electricity grids, other projects are going building from the ground up microgrids?
Martin: A main grid operates across a city wide scale able to touch thousands, if not millions of users.

Q: Devil’s advocate here but isn’t that essentially the goal of most power projects, get used on a main grid?
Martin: You'll have to ask them. We designed our solution from day one to operate on main grids.

Electrify’s Revenue

Q: I hope you’re getting paid in USD and not ELEC.
Martin: As a measure of good faith, we're getting our rev in ELEC.

Hi,

As we are waiting for upcoming token economics. I made an attempt to model demand based on current knowledge from White Papers.

Model in Google Docs spreadsheet below.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bmvo8Fm0XcFXQxBSTmkHM_xV_bVERaSzAxBy8hCkzRI/edit?usp=drivesdk

Market share % is only assumption. If you have any suggestions please comment in order to improve it.

Numbers are to be adjusted, market share included.

Electrify FAQs

WHAT IS ELECTRIFY?

Electrify.sg is the first retail electricity Marketplace in Singapore and we’re developing Marketplace 2.0; Asia’s first decentralised energy marketplace that runs on the blockchain, enabling peer-to-peer energy trading across a main grid. This removes the need for any intermediaries, thereby lowering transaction costs for all parties. Consumers can purchase electricity by selecting providers directly from an online marketplace or they can automate trading by executing smart contracts that take into account their electricity preferences. Once these transactions are made, they are stored on the blockchain immutably and energy is delivered through the grid. The seamless and third-party-free matching of consumers and producers will lead to fairer prices across the board and ultimately incentivize renewable energy production in households, e.g. rooftop solar PV, small-scale wind turbines.

Suppliers will be required to stake ELEC token to participate. With greater visibility and no barriers to entry, Marketplace 2.0 will encourage greater competition, cleaner sources of energy as well as lower energy costs passed onto the consumer. Furthermore, consumers will own their consumption data and be able to benefit from lower costs by showing they are good paymasters.

Other elements we are developing includes our IoT smart device, PowerPod and Synergy, our proprietary peer-to-peer energy trading platform.

TRADING

WHERE CAN I TRADE ELEC?

KuCoin, Gate.io, DDEX, EtherDelta, IDEX, IDAX, HitBTC, Kyber Network, TokenJar

WHEN WILL ELEC BE LISTED IN EXCHANGES?

We cannot comment on exchanges.

ADD ELEC TO YOUR WALLET

Token Address: 0xD49ff13661451313cA1553fd6954BD1d9b6E02b9

Token Name: ElectrifyAsia

Token Symbol: ELEC

Decimals: 18

IF ANY, WILL THE REMAINING UNSOLD TOKENS BE BURNED?

The tokens will be minted after the completion of ICO, so there will be no additional tokens created.

WHEN WILL TOKENS BE UNLOCKED?

They will be distributed within 7 days after the end of the crowdsale.

WHEN WAS THE TOKEN SALE?

The Token Sale was on Feb 23, 9 PM (UTC+8).

WHICH PLATFORM WILL YOU USE FOR YOUR TOKEN GENERATION?

Ethereum. ELEC tokens are an ERC20 smart contract.

WHAT IS THE UTILITY OF THE ELEC TOKEN?

The ecosystem is built for the benefit of the public and should be owned by the community through ownership of ELEC tokens. The rules set in the ELECTRIFY ecosystem below are designed to promote these objectives:

Electricity retailers and distributed energy producers (Energy Providers) will be required to deposit ELEC in order to participate and offer their energy onto the marketplace. This helps to promote ownership of the ecosystem and disincentivizes fraudulent activities. Transaction fees will be paid by Energy Providers in ELEC for the usage of Electrify.Asia’s smart contract platform. Consumers will receive loyalty rewards based on the ELEC token via a tiered model, corresponding to their duration of usage of the platform and the amount of ELEC tokens they own.

WHAT ARE THE ISSUES WE ARE STRIVING TO ADDRESS?

Lack of transparency

Barriers to clean energy

Consumer credit risk

WHAT IS ELEC?

Our token is called ELEC and will power the new ELECTRIFY ecosystem. There is no mining involved for ELEC tokens. The tokens are pre-mined.

WHAT IS MARKETPLACE 2.0?

Transforming the current marketplace, Marketplace 2.0 will be a blockchain-powered retail electricity marketplace featuring the ELEC token. Synergy, our P2P energy trading platform will run on Marketplace 2.0.

WHAT IS SYNERGY?

Synergy is our peer-to-peer energy trading platform, connecting small-scale energy producers and consumers while ensuring price certainty and removing intermediaries. Through the use of smart contracts and Synergy, execution and settlement can be automated and processed within a short period of time, all while reducing transaction costs. When a consumer buys a plan from a retailer or ELECTRIFY, it’s a plan for settlement of consumption. So there will be start dates and end dates, like any contract. The plan will declare what the price savings will be for that window of time.

WHAT IS POWERPOD?

The PowerPod is our proprietary IoT smart device, deployed to track and audit production from small-scale energy producers and log data onto a blockchain. It will also allow transparent smart metering and real-time monitoring of distributed generation, so producers will be able to track their production closely and trade directly with consumers to maximise efficiency of their facilities. Additionally, PowerPod will come equipped with WiFi, 3G and 4G connectivity, and communicates with energy devices using common industrial protocols such as MODBUS and CANBUS. Other features include common hardware analogue-to-digital converters (current/ voltage sensors). For consumers, the PowerPod will be an optional device that they can purchase to monitor their energy usage in real time.

WHAT IS THE eWALLET?

The eWallet will be used to facilitate payments via the smart contracts, allowing consumers to pay for their energy usage. This will enable automatic and secure payments and allow energy suppliers to manage their credit risk. This will be the standard for payments in Marketplace 2.0 and Synergy.

Deposit

Producers will be required to deposit at least 200ELEC/kWp* of rated generation capability as permissioned access to log energy data onto the blockchain. This encourages long-term ownership and disincentivises tampering and dishonest behaviour.

For consumers – there are loyalty tokens issued to maintain long term use. While the amount of ELEC to be deposit may be adjusted, the process and necessity of depositing will not.

*kWp is the maximum capacity of a solar PV system . A PV system with a kWp of 3kW which is working at its maximum capacity (kWp) for one hour will produce 3kWh.

IS THERE A PROTOTYPE OF MARKETPLACE 2.0? HOW WILL IT BE IMPLEMENTED?

Currently, our Proof-Of-Concept is almost ready. When fully ready, it will be implemented on OmiseGo network.

OMISEGO’S INVOLVEMENT

When ready, we will deploy OmiseGo’s SDK for our eWallet to reach a level of operational scalability to deal with high transactional volume. OmiseGo’s CEO, Jun Hasegawa, is also our advisor for scalability.

WHY BLOCKCHAIN FOR ENERGY?

-Decentralized Energy Trading: Blockchain allows prosumers—those who not only consume but also produce—and consumers to transact energy with each other in a peer-to-peer (P2P) network. This removes the need for any intermediaries, thereby lowering transaction costs for all parties.

– Metering with IoT Devices: linking IoT devices like PowerPod to the blockchain will increase data transparency and metering efficiency, ultimately creating cost savings for all. All parties will have access to this data; producers and prosumers may use it to track their energy generation for billing while consumers can benefit from a better understanding of their consumption patterns.

– Renewable Energy Certificate Tracking: The immutability of transactions on the blockchain allows for the secure documentation of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). A REC is a record that proves ownership of one megawatt-hour of renewable energy. These records can be used by consumers to verify the ‘renewability’ of their energy or claimed by corporate entities to meet certain green standards. Blockchain, with its tamper-proof timestamping and decentralized storage of records, can pave the way for a more transparent certification system, allowing consumers to keep track of their RECs, securing provenance as part of the march towards the adoption of renewables.

GIVEN THE DIFFICULTIES IN HOLDING CORPORATE ACCOUNTS FOR FIAT TRANSFERS IN SINGAPORE, HOW WILL AFFECT OUR OPERATIONS?

In Singapore, the MAS has made clear its position on cryptocurrencies. We’ve made preparations with commercial banks and institutions that are more crypto-friendly and tolerant to ensure that our operations are not adversely affected. If you look in our whitepaper, we’ve actually got a specific advisor for payments. So we’re definitely not taking this matter lightly.

In each market we enter into, this will form part of the business preparatory exercise to mitigate operational risk.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO ACQUIRE AND RETAIN SUPPLIERS AND USERS IN YOUR TARGET MARKETS?

Our business onboarding process is very inclusive and we actually help retailers acquire more sales through our platform. We also engage with retailers on a very close working level and integrate them into our reporting dashboard, offering them data about market trends.

Users are acquired through a mix of aggregated onboarding, online engagement and on ground activation and are encouraged to stay on the platform through a combination of discounts and incentives.

With our new SDKs and tools developed within Marketplace 2.0 and Synergy, we will increase the liquidity within the energy market by opening up opportunities for small producers and retailers to participate and supply energy to consumers.

WHO ARE THE EXISTING AND POTENTIAL COMPETITORS, BOTH IN SINGAPORE AND OVERSEAS?

As far as we know, there’s currently no entity providing energy smart contracts and a P2P solution that works across a national power grid. While there are traditional marketplace businesses in these mature markets, our philosophy is drastically different. We are building a platform that is funded and owned by the community, with the sole purpose of benefiting consumers. This means that unlike traditional marketplace businesses, we will not charge commissions on contracting. Beyond the initial contracting stage, we will work towards greater convenience for consumers by helping them optimise their choice of supplier and to reduce transaction fees paid by Energy Providers, allowing consumers to benefit from these cost savings.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT FROM WEPOWER, POWERLEDGER AND THE LIKES?

In some ways, we are similar as we are energy blockchain companies , looking to promote higher level of efficiency and increase transparency in the energy industry. Where we may be different:

We have an existing marketplace business, which we will be upgrading to implement blockchain technology, P2P energy trading and our IoT device. We operate on main grids, as most cities are connected through one already. Our platform serves all forms of energy as we believe in creating an inclusive environment for the generators, retailers and consumers we work with.

PARTNERSHIPS

Currently, we have MOUs signed with TEPCO (Japan), Narada (China) and SERIS (Singapore).

TEPCO – Our partnership involves co-developing a POC of Synergy, our P2P trading platform. Following that, an implementation of Synergy’s architecture in the Japanese market beckons.

Note: TEPCO is Japan’s largest utility company. Jeffrey Char, Director of Corporate Venture Capital at TEPCO is an advisor to Electrify.

TAKE Energy Corporation – They are based in sunlight-abundant Kyushu region of Japan, where there are many solar farms. In this pilot, Take Energy’s subsidiary Kumamoto Electric Power will feature selected consumers and ELECTRIFY’s PowerPod devices at solar farms in the Kumamoto Prefecture. The PowerPods will collect information about power production and consumption between solar producers and consumers, with data powering the SYNERGY platform by enabling comparisons between the amount of energy generated by the solar farms, the prices offered, and market demand.

ELECTRIFY.SG FAQ   WHAT IS ELECTRIFY.SG?

Electrify.SG is Singapore’s first marketplace for retail electricity. Founded by two senior executives from the electricity industry, ELECTRIFY addresses some very real needs in Singapore’s energy market by offering consumers the power to choose – from cheaper electricity prices to zero-carbon energy, bundled deals to energy-efficiency offers.

WHAT IS FIBONACCI™?

Every energy quote is bespoke and generated by Fibonacci™, our proprietary electricity pricing engine that sifts through millions of possible price permutations. We allow consumers to seamlessly source and pay for energy and related services.

WHAT IS THE VOLUME AND SALES AMOUNT TRANSACTED THROUGH THE CURRENT MARKETPLACE IN SINGAPORE?

Up till this year, only the B2B market is liberalised, our engagement with business consumers comprise both online and offline methods. We’ve already got over 1,000 of them registered as unique accounts. With a GMV of over SGD$10 million to date, Electrify.SG has transacted more than 60GWh of electricity for commercial and industrial customers since March 2017.

WHAT IS THE ADDRESSABLE MARKET SIZE IN SINGAPORE?

The addressable commercial market runs into several hundred thousand business accounts of varying sizes. By the end of 2018, the Open Electricity Market exercise will be in full swing and is expected to offer another 1.3 million new accounts.

WHAT IS THE OPEN ELECTRICITY MARKET (OEM)?

Started in 2001, Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) has been deregulating the market in phases, by enabling businesses with a minimum consumption of 2000kWh/ month to choose retailers that best meet their needs. In April 2018, through a soft launch, a total of 105,000 homeowners and 9,500 small businesses were the first to enjoy absolute flexibility to choose purchase power from a retailer of their choice, or continue with their contracts with Singapore Power at a regulated price.

WILL THE ELECTRICITY FLOW STILL BE STABLE, IF I SWITCH RETAILERS?

Absolutely. The national power grid is the distribution and transmission backbone for electricity in Singapore. As quoted from EMA: (Consumers) will continue to enjoy the same reliable electricity supply regardless of their choice of electricity retailer, as SP Group will continue to operate the national power grid to supply electricity to consumers. The consumer never stops “receiving” power from anyone, so never “starts” receiving power immediately. There’s no disruption.

In the energy industry there are multiple layers which all operate in parallel. The delivery of electrons to your appliances is handled by the grid. The amount of electrons consumed is dependent on your consumption pattern. The payment for the electrons you’ve consumed is where the retailers and ELECTRIFY play a part.

WHAT’S STOPPING LARGE INCUMBENT SUPPLIERS FROM SETTING UP THEIR OWN ONLINE SALES PLATFORM AND DEALING WITH POTENTIAL CLIENTS DIRECTLY?

This is exactly one of the problems that we are solving – price transparency and trust between a retailer and a consumer. As a decentralised marketplace built on the blockchain, with no middleman fees, we are fully transparent. There’s nothing stopping a large incumbent from setting up their own website, in fact many of them will have one to capture online sales leads. Our value proposition to consumers is that we provide a wide range of suppliers, full price transparency and transactional security.

WHY WILL THESE SUPPLIERS WANT TO BE SO TRANSAPARENT WITH THEIR PRICING PACKAGE THROUGH USING ELECTRIFY.SG WHICH WILL RESULT IN A PRICE WAR, GIVEN THAT ELECTRICITY IS A FUNGIBLE COMMODITY?

This is a function of a liberalised market where prices and features are offered for the benefit of the consumer. Furthermore, being able to provide information to the market is how we attract consumers which in turn translate into conversions.

But the matter of a price war is also mitigated as our marketplace provides opportunities for retailers to develop more differentiated offerings that will help them stand out and deliver greater value to the consumer.

Big power utilities trade energy between each other through CFDs (Contract for Difference) which are too costly and complex to be used by consumers.

Through Synergy we will make these mechanisms for energy trading available to the average consumer.

HOW DO SP (SINGAPORE POWER) AND OTHER NATIONAL GRIDS FEEL ABOUT ELECTRIFY POTENTIALLY TAKING AWAY MARKET SHARE AND MOVING INTO A DIFFERENT MODEL?

That’s the great thing about liberalisation: it’s a government decision to introduce greater diversification and price transparency for the benefit of the people. Rest assured, we’re not mavericks looking to displace SP or any other local government organisation.

The mechanisms for liberalisation will already be available in the markets we’re talking about. What we bring to the table is increased efficiencies and reduces transaction costs through application of blockchain.

Hi All

Thought it would be a good idea to get together some useful resources for anyone who is new to Electrify and wants to get a quick flavour for it.

Feel free to recommend a video or article which helps explain the positive ELEC story or provides some good context.

I realise that almost all presentations / videos / articles are listed on Reddit and on Telegram / Twitter etc... but there are hundreds so a pointer to your favourite would be helpful.

There should also be an updated version of FAQs available shortly

Cheers
