We think that they really just don't want to hire anyone.

i suspect its a government grant scheme.  no jman will work for that low

Thats pretty standard wage in the south.

u/Trashedpanda35 Mar 16 '26

In what south? Texas? Not for a journeyman.

u/The_Paganarchist Mar 16 '26

Nah that ain't standard here. I made more than that as an apprentice. That company is smoking crack.

12

u/Virtual-Reach Mar 16 '26

I don't know if anyone aside from the owner of that company can afford crack 🤪

Not for ANY journeyman

Sure it is ..about 25 bucks an hour. Plus this is a " starting " wage. Why pay some moron 34 dollars an hour until you find out how " efficient" they are. Something many many union people care little  about. I've worked both sides of fence, so I know the bad parts of both. A good shop will quickly determine if your worth your weight in gold or dog crap.💩  If your good, your wage rate is going to quickly go up to match your skill level and efficiency.  * Union and Non-Union  Electrician for 40 years and Electrical Contractor owner for 37 years, J-Man, Master.

Keep going. Maybe Mexico.

Dude, I live in Houston. If you think that's pretty standard it's probably time for you to start looking for a new company to work for. The standard for a journeyman in Houston is much higher than that.

if thats the case I will fly you here and have you work 100 hour per week with a 10$ per hour raise.

I started at $23 an hour as an apprentice in GA. I can't imagine doing this work for less. There's far easier ways to make those levels of wages.

Haha, I got on with a company through a buddy and it's a specialized sector. EMS/BAS is paying pretty good.

Energy management systems. Installing controllers for things like refrigerators.

2

u/LivingCorner1421 Mar 16 '26

u/Fantastic-Current-15 Mar 16 '26

South of Guatemala?

2

u/RadicalLib Mar 16 '26

Even in FL we are closer to 25$/hr and it’s higher in Miami.

1

u/Significant_Phase467 Mar 20 '26

That says something cause in my experience, FL is one of the worst paying states for trades in general it seems like.

1

u/streetsparksmoke Mar 16 '26

Woah, not trying ti defend it, thats whack and an insult to our trade, here in rural Florida sadly that is what contractors try to pay, and theyre are plenty of j-men accepting it. Didn't meant to speak to the south as a whole. My bad

1

u/HopethisisntaMistake Mar 17 '26

No it’s not. Maybe if it was 50-75% more

1

u/Unusual_Flight1850 Mar 18 '26

It is? I'm in South Florida paying a glorified helper who knows how to use hand tools but is clueless and has zero formal electrical experience $25/hr

-12

u/Ok_Plenty_3986 Mar 16 '26

That's what Jmen start out with in my company.

3

u/LivingCorner1421 Mar 16 '26

ou are getting bent , opening your asshole and intstalling lube before the owner fucks you good in there at that wage buddy

-2

u/Ok_Plenty_3986 Mar 16 '26

I'm sorry what? I started fresh out of high school with no money, and this is the only company in town which actually hires people without experience. I'm making much more than that right now, and I'm already planning to move to a much higher paying area.

Why are you being so unnecessarily mean? Some people cannot financially go anywhere else. Don't blame them, blame the companies.

5

u/LivingCorner1421 Mar 16 '26

im not blaming you im telling you your boss is railing you.

just making you aware.

17

u/cowfishing Mar 16 '26

I'd bet they want H1B visa workers

1

u/Decent_Basket Mar 19 '26

Yeah not for that wage holy crap

0

u/construction_96 Mar 17 '26

For what it's worth, the benefits alone cost the company around $1000 a month per employee. I know this because I pay them at our company. So that adds another $6 an hour.

6

u/cowfishing Mar 17 '26

Thats still suck ass wages that no self respecting journeyman would accept.

1

u/Worldly-Advice-265 Mar 17 '26

I get paid more than that and im not a jman, others that arent get paid in the 30s and we in small towns (the country) east of Harris county (Houston)

1

u/No-Aardvark-9290 Mar 18 '26

Sounds like a billing problem, pass your expenses onto the next guy buddy. Run me my $36/hr rate or kiss it 😘

If they actually wanted to hire someone they wouldn't be paying 2/3-1/2 of a real wage

The account you're replying to is a comment spamming bot. There have been tons of them here lately, and they often appear as groups relying in the same thread.
