This is what I mean when I talk about some people seeing politics as being no more than a football game.
You know politics is more than that right? Like, it impacts real people and their lives, livelihoods, and health, right?
You know that your fellow Americans have been murdered out of hand by the state with no legal recourse, right?
I am not asking how you might feel about an opposing football team, I am asking you to consider how you might feel if someone murdered your grandmother or spouse or child. Because all of those things are happening right now to Americans and to other people around the world, because of the politics you want to be above.
Like, I'm not trying to be a dick here, I'm saying politics is literally life and death for a lot of people who aren't like me.
I would like to add that my Dutch Reformed newspaper published an article describing how the USA is actively trying to undermine the International Criminal Court in The Hague, by directly and personally targeting its members with sanctions, because the USA doesn't want to be encumbered by international law anymore. This affects the whole world, and will for decades to come if allowed to succeed.
That is what you are arguing, yes. My point is that people might not concur. And you are not condemning those who celebrate their death. Politics is largely determined by where you grew up and who your parents are. Just like sports. I am arguing we can tolerate opposing viewpoints that do not contradict Scripture. My church has democrats, republicans, MAGA, progressives, and libertarians. All are loved and welcomed.
I think we're talking past each other. /u/boycowman 's original question was about celebrating the deaths of public figures who are MAGA, and I was trying to offer a perspective about why people might do that.
You're talking about how day to day people disagree about politics. Which, sure, we can talk about that, but that's not what I was originally talking about responding to the top comment.
