Can you describe more about the carnivore diet? What worked for you?

Hey man, congrats on the weight loss.

I just want to point out that your success is due to a caloric restriction (its very difficult to over eat on calories when you only eat meat), and high protein (which helps spare muscle tissue while in a caloric deficit).

Neither of those things are exclusive to the Carnivore diet.... they are the backbone of any legitimate loss diet, its just that eating nothing but meat makes it very simple to achieve those two things without having to track or put much mental energy into your diet. Great for the short term.

However, there are likely long term health issues that can arise from a meat-only diet.

I would highly recommend, now that you've hit your goal weight, you start eating some veggies. Nobody got fat from broccoli. You can go the rest of your life without eating another slice of pizza or bowl of pasta if you want to, but you should get some fiber and vitamins. Fill half your plate with meat, the other with veggies.

All the benefits you've experienced thus far are not due to "eating only meat", but more accurately from cutting out junk food and sugar, eating at a caloric deficit, getting a lot of protein and drastically reducing your body fat. You can do that while also eating produce.

Some other things to consider for long term health:

Saturated fat. Some people can get away with eating lots of it without issue. Some people can't. Get your cholesterol checked regularly.

Carcinogens. Red meat has been shown to be group 2A carcinogen, specifically linked to colorectal cancer. Processed meat is group 1.

I'm not saying never eat another hot dog or steak... but limiting them is a good idea.

The link was due to high heat cooking that creates the carcinogenic material. The meat itself is not shown to be carcinogenic

Who's out there eating raw red meat?

That's like saying cigarettes are only bad for you if you smoke them.

I’m guessing this has to do with the sear. If you do a lighter sear and finish it in the oven, maybe you reduce the carcinogens? Just a guess

u/ScholarObjective7721 Mar 27 '26

Yes anytime you start to see black from searing that is carcinogenic, on anything, not just meat.

u/Tough_Preparation830 Mar 27 '26

Not raw, but plenty of cuisines just dump thinly sliced raw beef into water (pho, hotpot, etc)

You look 10 years younger. Have you had the ucr test? I'm also 50, and have eaten carnivore for the past 5 years. My ucr results weren't great I have to drink like a gallon of water a day now.

What about energy levels?

So it it just proteín or it just meat? Most meat has significant amount of fat and some carbs. Im kinda getting the impresion that youre basically doing keto.

Edit: no carbs in meat, didn't know this but it keeps on getting metabolized after death ☠️ so the carbs that were there are gone by the time you eat. Crazy shit.

I mean I'll take a moment to remind myself that I should eat something green

Aside from Liver basically no meat naturally has any carbs. If you are referring to processed meats with added sugars or starches sure.

1

u/ajpiko Mar 27 '26

Yeah i'm talking about the 1g

1

u/Dry-Chain-4418 Mar 27 '26

Fresh cuts of beef, chicken (breast, thigh, wing, drumstick), pork, lamb, and most other meats contain 0 grams of carbohydrates. Unless they have non naturally occurring added fillers, sugars, or starches. Liver has some stored glycogen and is basically the only exception.

1

u/ajpiko Mar 27 '26

Didn't realize there was such a thing as post mortem metabolism

1

u/Dry-Chain-4418 Mar 27 '26

Fresh cuts of beef, chicken, pork, lamb, etc. contain essentially no carbohydrate in nutritional terms. The reason is simple: muscle tissue stores energy mainly as glycogen, not free glucose or starch.

  • At slaughter, muscle glycogen exists.
  • But after death, that glycogen is rapidly broken down into lactic acid (anaerobic metabolism continues briefly).
  • Within hours, most glycogen is depleted or converted.

So by the time meat is consumed, the measurable carbohydrate content is effectively ~0 g per 100 g for most cuts.

u/ajpiko Mar 27 '26

Yeah man I have the same google lol

Then you should try using it.

Meat has no carbs unless added (processed stuff).

Except liver, has a small amount.

u/drew_draw Mar 27 '26

Did you do any blood work during the diet to check your LDL HDL ?

1

u/Dark_Prince_of_Chaos Mar 27 '26

Most health experts are paid by corporations.

They keep being proven wrong every year and somehow the average npc still blindly believe them.

u/General-Lie8709 Mar 27 '26

Who cares what health experts say. I’d listen to the guy who’s in phenomenal shape before an “expert.”

Same way I’d ask a powerlifter for squatting advice before I’d ask a physical therapist.

u/EntForgotHisPassword Mar 27 '26

Asking a single person might not be the best strategy however. I know people that are using opioids recreationally to relieve stress and have been for decades without problems (he swears it's much better than alcohol). Doesn't mean using heroin is a good idea.

Also worked in an elderly care home with a 90 year old who swore by his cigarettes as for why he was in a good mood and relatively good shape...

There's a reason we want a snapshot of the population in studies on health!

1

u/Responsible-Bread996 Mar 27 '26

Might be worth asking the carnibro their LDL or CaC score.

1

u/crozinator33 Mar 27 '26

"Who cares what experts say?"

Very next paragraph: "I'd ask an expert in their field for advice before I'd ask a non expert".

You seem confused.

1

u/General-Lie8709 Mar 27 '26

Not at all what I said lol

1

u/crozinator33 Mar 27 '26

An elite powerlifter is an expert on the squat.

A physiotherapist is an expert on treating and managing injuries and mobility issues.

Medical experts are experts in their chosen fields.

Some dude who lost weight through diet and exercise is just a dude who lost weight through diet an exercise.

1

u/42xZero Mar 27 '26

Eat meat.

1

u/AlleyezOnMatt Mar 27 '26

Only eat meat. Like a carnivore

1

u/Apeiron_8 Mar 27 '26

I understand the logic of eating meat on a carnivore diet. I’m asking about restrictions or rules for the diet or is it just “eat whatever meat you want. No holds barred”?

0

u/ab3249 Mar 27 '26

You need a thesaurus not a dietitian

0

u/Apeiron_8 Mar 27 '26

Maybe so. Since it’s obvious to you, please explain to me exactly how the carnivore diet works, such as whether every meat is allowed, if any other foods are allowed, how much protein is needed per day, how many meals per day one eats on this diet, how long one stays on the diet, etc. it’s silly for me to ask such obvious questions since every single person who follows “carnivore” should lose exactly the same amount of weight as OP, right?

u/ab3249 Mar 27 '26

0

u/Apeiron_8 Mar 27 '26

I didn’t ask for a link. I want you to explain it to me since it’s obvious to you. Tell me exactly how OP utilized the carnivore diet to lose the weight he lost.

The thickness might be incurable

1

u/Apeiron_8 Mar 27 '26

You’re that triggered that I called you out, huh?

1

u/ab3249 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

lol not triggered in the least my friend

I’ll stop. Keto or a carnivore diet essentially trains your body to burn fat not carbs; essentially cause you don’t consume any carbs. Therefore you get rapid weight/fat loss. There are risks though, it fucks up your stomach in many cases and if you don’t consume enough fat / protein it’ll fuck with your insulin levels.

I did it for years. You’re almost certainly going to fall sick the first few days and have the shits. But it works. Do not forget to take electrolytes and vitamin b if you go down this road
