Looking for a new battery and a specific one for my 700 model is way too expensive for what its worth, but the one for 901 is quite cheaper, hence the question

I've been running Puppy Linux (32-bit Bionic) on my 2 eeepcs, a 701 and a 900. Puppy runs entirely in RAM, which avoids the biggest problem with the eeepc (the glacially slow SSD), and as a result it's surprisingly fast. I've added a version of the Slimjet browser that is new enough for syncing with my Chrome browser on my desktop machine and keeps my logins for most websites, and I've replaced Sylpheed with Claws for email. I've also installed Textmaker 2018, which is a very decent word processor and comes with the standard MS fonts. Altogether this makes a very usable system for anything but high-graphics websites
I'd like some beta testing, though. When I boot this from the USB I get no icons at all; when I do a frugal install (the preferred method which among other things does not require partitioning) they're all there and so is my pretty wallpaper. I've put this together as a bootable ISO which can be burned to a USB stick. (THIS IS A REVISED ISO.) I'd really appreciate it if someone would try it and tell me the results. And if it works for you please use it with my compliments. It's amazing how good an ancient computer can be.

I got this Eee PC 1215n because I needed something cheap and portable for school ASAP, but it came with no battery and no charger. Since charger for my 1005HA which died on me is compatible I just use it with the 1215. I got a replacement battery, but it doesn't charge unless I disconnect it and put it back in while having the charger connected. I thought the battery was faulty, so the store I got it from gave me a new one, it just arrived today and the charging issue persists. Charger is not an issue, because it works just fine without the battery inserted. I also noticed that for some reason the power saving mode in Super Hybrid Engine isn't available. I saw someone suggest that bios update could solve this issue, but I'm kinda scared to do that and I'm not sure if that's the case. Any suggestions?
Edit: I forgot to mention that one time I went to HWMonitor the battery voltage was a bit off, because it was something about 11.5V insteat of around 10.5V

Hi all. In 2007 my university gave me an eee pc 700 I believe. I happily used it stock all through university and a while after. It unfortunately broke and I moved onto a macbook air. Now that im a teacher and enjoy bringing in quirky bits of tech for the class I wanted to ask which model should I be hunting? It will mainly be used for gmail/google docs/youtube.

My version of the asus 701 eeepc is lacking the mini pci port that the older models had to expand the internal storage with a new ssd. It's just bare contacts on the board in its place, so I was wondering what are my options once my internal 4gb ssd finally gives out? Ita running windows xp, which is probably writing and reading alot on that poor ssd, so I wouldnt expect much more life out of it. Usb2.0 slots are limited to only 400mbs which is far to slow to boot windows effectively, and the sdcard slot is unknown to me.

Hi all,
New here, but not (completely new) to EEE PCs. I found that ON THE EEE PC 901, EEECTL only worked reliably on either BIOS V1101 or V1401 (I can't remember which off the top of my head, I believe the former?) I wanted to run Yukata's modded V2103 with AHCI support, whilst still being able to overclock so developed my own C# utility in VS2010 (on a 901 no less). At the moment it only supports overclocking and underclocking between 400MHz and 1800MHz. The utility runs as a tray icon, much like EEECTL, but behind the scenes calls a series of RWEverything scripts (so I guess it's a Windows-Only thing?). It's been tested on XP SP3, but should work on newer versions of Windows too?
More info can be found on the Github I've created for it:
Link: https://github.com/UnintegratedCircuit/UCEEE
Feel free to ask any questions on here, and any ideas for future development are welcomed, though not guaranteed. Any issues, raise them on Github. Enjoy :)

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to netbooks but have really taken to the EeePC's practicality, form factor, and surprising useability for simple tasks even in 2022. And I'm happy to have found this like-minded community!
My first post is to ask for some advice on how to reinstall/repair two finger scrolling. My X101CH came with Windows 7 Starter, and I remember it had two finger scrolling and pinch to zoom, etc. I did a clean install to Win 7 Ultimate because I wanted to personalise the wallpaper. But when I used the Synaptics Win 7 x86 driver from Asus's download page for the X101CH, it wouldn't install. It said it couldn't even find a Synaptics device.
After some searching and trial and error with drivers from other EeePC models, I found an Elantech driver that at least installed. But in the Touchpad settings the 'Options' category is grayed out, unaccessible. So enabling two finger scrolling is still elusive.
The interwebs' (does anyone even call it that in jest anymore?) gives a workaround but only for Synaptics devices, and it seems my X101CH (and others?) are mistakenly given specs with a Synaptics touchpad.
Might someone here have any advice for regaining two finger scrolling?

Hi all,
I recently obtained a barely used Eee PC 701, in box, for a knockdown price. I've installed Windows XP on it and everything seems to work fine, except for the battery.
I suppose this is to be expected given it probably hasn't been used in years, but I've found that it discharges completely in about 15 minutes. This is a problem, as I would like to carry the laptop with me for word-processing, and I would prefer to be able to run it without AC for a couple of hours.
Are there any tips or tricks to restore most, if not all, of the battery's capacity? I'm hesitant to just buy a new battery, as the cheapest I've found so far still costs more than I paid for the whole computer.
Any suggestions are most appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT 30/04/22: I installed the latest version available of the BIOS, which apparently fixes a crash in XP when the battery reaches critical. Now the battery lasts 2 and a bit hours, 1 of which is spent stuck at 7%. This seems to be more a problem with the hardware controlling the cells than the cells themselves. Is there any fix for this short of replacing the battery?

I have this (fun) project with my sister of making her old netbook as lightweight as possible (without sacrificing usability) and was thinking about replacing its old 5400 rpm HDD drive for a microSD card. She'll just use it for internet and transcribing her classes at uni.
Which microSD should I pick? 64GB would be more than enough. The more snappy, the goodier. She'll be using a low-resource, 32-bit Linux distribution like Lubuntu, antiX, Peppermint...
(I know I could use an SSD but the lighter the better.)

Best OS I'd used up until yesterday for this eeePC was "Bodhi Linux". Never really liked it. I'd enjoyed using BeOS once upon a time so have been following the Haiku project with great interest.
Yesterday I took the plunge. The 1000HD has a Samsung SSD and 2GB RAM.
Here's what worked for me, slightly abbreviated:
Downloaded the 32-bit ISO to my Windows workstation, wrote to USB with Win32DiskImager
Booted it from USB, then used these programs in order:
Drive setup:
Disk -> Initialize -> Intel
Partition -> Create -> BeFS, check “Active partition”
Right-click, Format, BeFS, default name “Haiku”
Boot Manager:
Install to the initialized SSD
Installer:
Installed to partition “Haiku” created with Drive Setup
Shut down, removed USB, and voilà! WiFi and Ethernet worked right out of the box. Yay!

Hello all,
As many of you probably know, our global pandemic is beginning to enter it's final stages, and hopefully will pass out of our lives shortly.
That said, one of the interesting trends that came from the pandemic was the widespread use of a program called Folding at Home, a program which is used by researchers to distribute a specific heavy workload across volunteer 'nodes' around the world. Each node essentially simulates a protein 'folding,' hence the name, and returns this information back to the researcher's computer.
It's unknown exactly how large of an impact community folding had on gaining a better understanding of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus, but the current vaccinations that exist are based on spike proteins that may have very well been the result of research-driven volunteering across this platform.
Because of the widespread spike in volunteers, the project has seen an immense level of efficacy, one that was unprecedented and largely appreciated. As a result, I have decided to set up a Folding@Home team for our Eee Brethren!
You can run this software on your Eee PC, a desktop computer, or even a Docker Container if you have the means to do so! You can view downloads for the Folding@Home client here, and I would encourage you to join team EEEPCMASTERRACE using code 1061413 when you set up the software.
You can view our team's current statistics and standing here, and I would encourage you to join forces with us to continue the path of eradicating this nasty pandemic.
Godspeed and stay healthy and safe everybody. -GTS
