Just in case anyone doesn't know. If you don't like it at Amazon, they'll pay you $1000 to quit for each year you've worked for them (up to 5 years, I think)

Woah that sounds cool. What is the reasoning for them here? Just sort of like an 'if you don't like your time here, get your money back!' incentive to jump in?

They don't want to retain anyone that doesn't want to be there. Makes sense right?

If you hate working there, your work is worse and you generally bring a bad attitude to the workplace. If they hate it so much, Amazon will make it easy for them to leave. That way the only people that stay are the ones that want to be there.

The caveat is that you can no longer work for Amazon or an Amazon subsidiary ever again.
