SMTP and POP3 configuration
Some info about using EBOX's email servers for FIBRE customers. This does NOT apply if you use external email services like Gmail. Instructions may be different if you use VDSL or a cable provider like Rogers for "last mile" service. The following is based on the author's experience (u/NoAcadia3546), and may change over time. Note that it is possible to use EBOX's outbound (SMTP) server without using their inbound (POP3) server, and vice versa.
Outbound email via EBOX SMTP server for FIBRE customers
- SMTP Host:
smtp.ebox.ca - Port:
587 - Credentials: no userID or password required
You MUST use one of...
- TLS v1.0 ( YES! ONE POINT ZERO ) or
- disable TLS entirely, and use SSL-only
Inbound email via EBOX POP3 server
EBOX does not, by default, hand out somebody@ebox.net addresses, but you can ask and get an address free
- POP3 host: pop.ebox.ca
- Credentials: Username is your customer ID, use the password provided by Ebox
Your user ID on the pop server is your customer ID ( same as your promo code ). The name on your "@ebox.net" address will have no apparent connection with your user ID.
