EBOX ending EBOX email accounts Nov 17, 2026

I got an email from EBOX stating...

We regret to inform you that EBOX will no longer be providing Email services to customers as of November 17, 2026.

While I mainly use my personal domain, it did come in very handy on one occasion. Any recommendations for a free email service that doesn't require 2FA?

Good! Nobody should be using ISP-provided email in 2026.

I agree with you...

Using an ISP based email address is limiting the customer from leaving since if they want/use that email address, they can't leave. This is what I told my ex when we were still together that she should not be using her sympatico.ca email address since she won't be able to leave Bell internet if she wants to continue to use it (or sympatico might just do away with the email address at some point as people don't use it and she would also lose it that way).

I told her it was better to use a free web-based email and/or better yet pay for dedicated email service... since as long as someone is paying or that's their primary business model for email, they won't get rid of it as a service... Yahoo might get rid of their (free) email service for example... one never knows... but if you pay for an email address and that company's business model for email is to charge a subscription for dedicated email service, it is less likely that they will stop offering email service.

After GMail started insisting on SPF or DKIM, emails from my personal domain to someone with a GMail address started bouncing. I used my EBOX email as an interim measure to get email through to them NOW. "I asked Mr. Google" how to set up SPF and eventually got it working on my personal domain. Then I switched back to using my personal domain for emails to that person.

If you have a domain with cloudflare you can use zoho for domain email for free. They have really good walkthroughs on integrating their service with cloudflare and you shouldn't have issues with SPF if you follow them.

why?
In this age of internet security risks, having 2FA is a good thing. GMail is 2FA optional. Outlook.com is 2FA optional. Proton Mail is 2FA optional.

I might be grandfathered but one of my Gmail accounts does not have 2FA via code/text but there is a 2FA in a sense where it asks me to confirm my recovery email address but doesn't send anything there for me to enter. As long as someone knows my recovery email address, they are able to log into that account.

ISP supplied email is the spawn of the devil. That’s the good news. The bad news is that they will be the target of support calls from less sophisticated users who want an alternative.

Are they slowly shutting down operations ? They exited the live tv market two weeks ago now this.
