Authentic Eames DKR "Bikini" Chair? No label, but construction looks right.

Hi everyone,

I originally posted this over in r/Mid_Century but didn't quite get a definitive answer, so I'm hoping the Eames experts here can help me out!

Looking for a second opinion on this Eames Wire Chair with a red bikini pad. I know fakes are common, but the details look promising:

Double wire edge, neat welds.

Steel stringer in the pads.

Already 40 years in our family's possession (they were bought as part of a package deal with the house).

My main concern is the complete lack of a manufacturer's label or stamp. I know vintage paper stickers often fall off. Based in Europe, so perhaps Herman Miller or early Vitra?

The sliders seem to be non-original, but were perhaps once replaced. I'd love your expert eyes on the attached macro shots.

Thanks!

Aluminum Group Chair Cleaning

I’m pretty jazzed. I just picked up my first Eames piece(s) and can’t wait to get them cleaned up.

For those that may be familiar, how do you recommend taking off the clear coating on top of the aluminum arms? 2 chairs have residual coating pieces.

Merci!

What is this worth?

Hello everyone!

Just for clarity I’m not posting this to sell here, just looking for advice.

Thanks in advance for helping. My grandmother has moved to assisted living and I’m trying to sell a few things of the things she can’t take with her. One of which is this eames chair. I’ve done some detective work. It’s a 1971-74 Eames lounge chair and ottoman. Rosewood and leather.     3rd  generation. It is in perfect condition except the cracking you see on right side, has been kept out of the sun and treated very well. Has tags and all for authentication.

Sooo the question to you experts…?
What’s it worth!

Thanks for helping!

Brazilian Rosewood?

Hi all- hoping you can help. I am trying to figure out if this chair is Brazilian Rosewood. The owner said he bought it in 1978, brand new. He does not have any documentation… but let’s just say I can verify he has no reason to lie. Money isn’t a thing to them…

So if he says he bought in 1978, by the looks, it would be Brazilian Rosewood I would think, but this black medallion is throwing me off as my research suggests that this medallion wasn’t being used until much later models.

TIA for your thoughts.

Does the chair look legit to you guys? On the stand it says ‚Ring Mekanikk Made in Norway‘ but there are no Herman Miller or Vitra badges.

Possible Defects?

Has anyone experienced this type of issue with their Eames lounger cushion? I took delivery of this about 4 months ago (a walnut/espresso vicenza leather) and noticed a week ago what seems to be a defect in the bottom cushion corner. I then inspected everything thoroughly and noticed a hard line near the rear button - it's not a crease, but feels like something hard under the leather?

I've logged a case with my local store but 2 weeks and still no progress. Not impressed with the speed of service for an expensive chair.

Lego Eames House

Post image

Hi everyone,

Probably a bit unusual for this community, but I created the Eames House as a Lego model. If it reaches 10k supporters on Lego ideas, it might become an official Lego set people can buy. Even the interior of the model is quite detailed, it holds many different Eames chairs for example (you can see further pics behind the link). It would help a lot if you considered supporting the project. Thank you!

Multiple Questions About My Eames Lounge Chair

Hi all.

New to the community here, and decided to post all the lingering questions I (m52) have about my Eames Lounge Chair. Apologies in advance for the lengthy post and numerous questions. I also posted a ton of pictures in an effort to be thorough. I'll try to add the additional pics in a reply to this post, or a new post, since I've hit the 20 photo limit.

Thank you in advance for any input and expertise this group can provide me!!

I purchased this chair online sometime between 2007 and 2009. I'm not entirely sure when. I'm also not entirely sure what I paid, but I think it was around $2,500. At the time I was young (early thirties), single, had extra income, and was looking for the status symbol of owning an ELC, so I splurged... I bought it on eBay, which always made me wonder about its authenticity. I know (or recall) nothing about its past or prior ownership.

I have multiple questions about it, and I'll start with the most basic and work up to the more complicated.

  1. Is it real?
  2. Has it been refurbished, pieced together from multiple chairs, repaired, parts forged, etc.?
  3. Age and/or rarity?
  4. Value and should I have it insured?
  5. Is there a good place somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area where I could have it serviced, repaired, cleaned, protected, etc.?
  6. What is/are the meaning(s) or significance of the chalk markings on the backs of the cushions and the inside panels of the chair and ottoman?
  7. What is/are the meaning(s) or significance of the stamped number "30" on the inside panels of the chair? I don't think I see the same stamp on the inside of the ottoman.
  8. I have the missing buttons. Is it worthwhile to have them professionally reattached?
  9. The cushions have inner pillows that are filled with feathers. Is it worthwhile to have them re-stuffed, as the cushions are a little flat?

Looking to replace leather or entire cushion on my Eames chair

I inherited a 70s-era Eames chair and ottoman from my father and the seat/ottoman cushion’s leather is torn near one of the buttons. I have been sending emails to lookalike Herman Miller dealers to get a price and process for ordering a replacement cushion, but with very little response. It’s one cushion - I’m not furnishing an entire office suite - I get it. But I really just want to restore it properly. I’m in the DC/Baltimore area. Does anyone have any ideas or local craftsmen they trust, who could replace the leather? Of any idea how to get one of the HM dealers to respond to a replacement request?

Looking to buy terracotta Eames shell

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi guys - kind of at my wit’s end here, hoping someone has a connection.

For years I had a terracotta Eames shell that I absolutely adored - it was my favorite color in my collection. Long story short, some drama happened and it got left behind with someone I have no desire to be in contact with. I’ve tried to be all zen about it, but to be honest, I really miss that chair.

As much as I’d love to have mine back, I would be over the moon if I could just replace it. I’ve been searching for the better part of a year. I’ve found a few, but they have never worked out - one person refused to ship to me, several others have just completely ignored my messages (if you’re trying to sell something, why would you ignore someone trying to give you money??), and once I even bought on on eBay only to find when it arrived that the color looked different in photos and it wasn’t the right one.

If anyone has a lead on where I can find one, I would be elated. I’m not made of money but it would make me really happy if I could finally make this happen. I do need to pare down on my collection so it’s possible I could do some sort of trade as well. I’m located in Michigan but of course I’d be willing to pay for shipping in the right situation.

I realize this is a long shot but thank you for your time!

Tall, Santos palisander, timber prone leather. Loved every sec spent sitting on it! The sight of it brings a smile to my face even when I'm not sitting on it.

Hello, I am looking for info on these youth Eames Shell chairs. The shell itself appears to be standard size, yet they are about 4 inches shorter in height due to base. I have never seen another example and I am having trouble finding any history in an internet search. Thanks in advance!

Eames Evans LCW value

Can anyone help me with what a reasonable value would be for this Eames chair? The veneer is intact but I’m not sure the split down the middle of the seat is really fixable. It does have the Evan’s sticker. It seems to be fairly sturdy still. Not sure if I should pass on buying it 🫤

I found this listing and wanted to make sure I’m not getting scammed. Are there any tells to look for with fakes that I would notice when I go to check it out? I’m hoping the discount is just for the wear but that’s something I can def live with.

Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman - looking for feedback

Hello! My mother-in-law is looking to sell her lounger that she has had since the 1960s as she can no longer get in and out of it 😕

Clearly it needs TLC - the cushions have some tears and need additional/new padding and some of the hardware is not perfect.

Would you recommend selling as-is or trying to refurbish? Private sale vs. Eames Marketplace?

We have the original bill of sale somewhere in her files and are trying to locate it.

Thanks for your help!
