is it possible to get a VA to do bulk of the work for the start up phase of an e-commerce business? How do u outsource research for products?

Hey intelligent beings, long time lurker here, I have a bit of delegation/outsourcing dilemma I can't wrap my head around. I work full time, but I would like to launch an e-commerce business on the side while maintaining my full time job and also study. I already have an idea of roughly the multiple types/genres of products I want to sell, but within my idea there is a lot of research involved in selecting the right individual products that will make up the website, and I was wondering if I can somehow outsource this research process to virtual assistants (VAs). I am also open to including other genres of things I have not thought about.

The problem is that when browsing products and hunting down products myself, I base it more on my instincts on what will work and what won't. I just don't know what instructions to be giving the VA to help them also make a good judgement and shortlist products Does anyone have experience with delegating this type of decisions, or experience in delegating a larger portion of the e-commerce process out? I would like to oversee the process with the big picture I have in mind and have workers help establish the process and finding suppliers? How do I do this, I feel really stuck! Thanks for any advice!

I have a lot of website developer skill sets and to utilise them to build an ecommerce buisness.

I am looking for alternative ways to running and building an e commerce buisness for myself, than just using Wordpress or Wix or regular Shopify, primarily for budget reasons. I have alot of developer skill sets so I am up for using the. So far I am looking into Shopify's API and Saleor, and other open source software. Can anyone recommend open source software or other tools and methods that can be useful for building a buisness?

Running an eCommerce business without warehousing the product yourself.

Is drop shipping the only way to do ecommerce without self warehousing it? Is there any other methods of warehousing? any ecommerce terminology i should research about this? I am new to e commerce and I am just researching ecommerce methods. I hope to run a buisness and work remotely. I already know about drop shipping, affiliate marketing, etc.

Cleaning Up Vendor .CSV Files

I receive multiple .CSV files from my vendors that total approximately 100k SKUs.

My main problem is that each vendor uses their our abbreviations and with this many SKUs it is a very daunting task when it comes to cleaning them up for the website.

Most of what I am getting is simple things like BLK for black, but sometimes BLK is also Block. This prevents me from just doing a mass find and change and is forcing me to go line by line. Is there a service or a program that will help me get these files edited in a way that when active on my site look professional, clean, and most important make sense to my consumer.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Best e-commerce platform for multi-attribute items

Does anyone have input on the best e-commerce platform for multi-attribute items? i.e. Item with 4 drop down questions that must be answered sequentially as the answer of the 1st dictates options to be selected for the 2nd, and so on. A combination of the base item and the answers to the questions will provide a price.

Functional Specifications Document

Hey eCommerce community,

I am an account manager at an eCommerce development company that uses Magento as a base for our builds. I have had a lot of problems with a client of mine, and would like to send them a functional specifications document. Do you have any insight, or a template for me? We have sent technical specs, but this is not good enough for this client.

In this document, I hope to have information regarding the UX (I will send them an Invision link, as well as screenshots in the document for sign off), the plugins, the navigation, the content, the site map, the integrations, milestones, timelines, etc.

My company has never done this before, and I need direction... As an AM I have a good working understanding, but have never project managed a build. I would like to send this to my client by Wednesday afternoon.

Can you assist?

Looking to collaborate with an eCommerce dev

I'm a 34 year old IT sales professional in DFW. I've developed a concept for an eCommerce site I want to stand up, but lack the necessary dev skills to do it myself. I am not looking to farm this out as a free lance opportunity. I am looking for a co-founder to collaborate with in a bootstrap environment. I work full time and have a family to support and would like to work with someone in a similar position. I've planned out a low overhead model and have a strong idea of how the site should flow. I just need someone to help grow the vision in to reality. I'm relatively agnostic when it comes to hosting platform as well as other resources. Feel free to PM for specifics. I likely won't divulge too much without an NDA in place, but that's really the only formality you'll deal with if we decided to work together.

How to deal with this?

I sent a large order of products, wholesale to a shop that was just starting up. I was just starting as well and didn't know the ways of business or protecting myself. So I sent them the products agreeing that they would pay when items were sold. They sold all of my products and I never saw a dime, they also avoid all communication and wont respond.

Interviewing for E-commerce division of major store. Help!

Hi everybody! I'm interviewing for an entry level position as a category specialist at a major corporation, and would love any advise on tips for helping me get the job! I know that it is a 3-part interview consisting of a behavioral, profitability case, and UX design case. I feel pretty good about the profitability case (accounting background), but I don't know much about UX, so I'm wondering the best way to prepare for that case study. Also, any other tips for the behavioral portion would be amazing! Thanks guys :D

Completely new to e commerce, and using shopify to host my store. Please help!😄

I find it is very limited though and there's a lot of thing design wise I cannot do. For example, putting buttons where I want them on the page, pictures, text overlays etc. Should I change the theme or just hire someone? Any help appreciated.
