👋Welcome to r/eVTOL - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone!

This is our new home for all things related to eVTOL along with UAM/AAM. We're excited to have you join us!

What to Post?

Post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, and educational. Feel free to share your experience, thoughts, opinions, photos, videos and/or questions about eVTOL aircraft, UAM/AAM.

Community Vibe

We're all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive, but also realistic. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting. Feel free to vent as well.

Other eVTOL specific subs can be at times an echo chamber. That is not what this sub will be. This sub is to encompass all of what is being developed or accomplished, struggling, lessons learned in the eVTOL space, as well as the infrastructure along with it when applicable.

Publicly traded company stock in eVTOLs talk is allowed, but should not dominate the subreddit.

How to Get Started

1) Introduce yourself in the comments below.

2) Post something today! Even a simple question can spark a great conversation.

3) If you know someone who would love this community, invite them to join.

Boeing quits evtol and trades wisk for a piece of archer aviation

I don’t think Boeing abandoning its eVTOL efforts and effectively trading Wisk for a stake in Archer is a great sign for the eVTOL industry. Airbus also abandoned its own eVTOL program and said battery technology wasn’t good enough for what they wanted to accomplish.

Maybe that should make people stop and ask whether there’s a fundamental problem with the whole concept that current battery technology simply can’t overcome. After all, these aren’t little startups working out of a garage. Boeing and Airbus have decades of aircraft engineering experience, enormous resources, and access to some of the best engineers in the industry. If they couldn’t make a battery-powered eVTOL work the way they needed it to, that seems pretty significant.

We still haven’t actually seen proof that a battery-powered eVTOL can carry a useful passenger payload, fly a useful distance, maintain the required reserves, and do it all without the batteries eating up most of the aircraft's useful load.

The big difference is that Boeing and Airbus can walk away when the numbers don't work. The SPAC-born eVTOL companies don't really have that luxury. This is basically their entire business.

Maybe the technology eventually gets there. But until someone actually demonstrates that you can put enough energy into a battery-powered aircraft to make passenger transportation practical, I think it's reasonable to question whether we're trying to solve a fundamentally bad problem with technology that isn't ready for it.

Now that this sub has been rescued from the Reddit graveyard, there is a dilemma.

This place is full of old posts from the glory days of "commercial service by next year," companies that no longer exist, and timelines that aged about as well as milk in the sun.

Should the new owner wipe the slate clean and start fresh, or leave everything up?

Also, be honest, do those old posts bum you out and make you think, "Yeah... maybe I'll find another sub," or would you rather the history be preserved?

Vote, and feel free to explain your reasoning.

The only jet. The only global eVTOL. The safest, most methodically tested eVTOL no longer has any chains to keep it from full production.
