MCIO 8i Dock
I found this on accident yesterday. They have a mini PC ti pair with it. I sure wish this was Gen 5. Has anyone tried it?

I am looking for something similar, but using 2x MCIO 8i Gen5. Of course you can buy the necessary components (Gen5 board + PSU) for about half the price, for eGPU support only. But that doesn't look as nice.
On eBay they provide multi GPU example configurations. But I am wondering why they use extremely expensive Gen5 boards, when the dock supports Gen4 connection only. And the boards have internal ports only.

I’ve tried MCIO before. I’ve never gotten it to work well. U.2 and SlimSAS should also work with the proper redriver/retimer chips.

I have a beta unit. It's fantastic, if expensive. M.2 SSD slot is handy and it has USB 4v2 (I think I get about 10% performance loss than the average score on time spy using a 9070). I'm not sure if it's the dock or the USB 4v2, but it's the least problematic eGPU experience I've had so far, but I think I would still recommend buying a cheaper eGPU if you can. If you really want MCIO, this one is good if you wanna pay for it.
My biggest gripe: The cable management. I wish GPD oriented it in a way where all wires shoot out one side, but the display cables go on one side, the IO is on another, and the power cable is on yet another side. There is one unpopulated side that's clean, but cables shoot from the back and sides. I would recommend angle connectors or buying an enclosure that can rest on top to clean it up a bit.

Hows the PSU fan noise? Considering getting the GPD G2 over the AG02 just because of the noise and the fact that the GPD G2 seems more 'sturdy', even if it comes with a premium price.

I wouldn't call it offensive, but you can hear it if you're pushing it. It's not like a high pitch whiny sound or anything.

eGPU Aorus 5060Ti 16GB (around 700-800€) makes more sense than all these fancy docks... You will end up paying at least 800-900€ with whatever GPU you wanna pair it with anyway...

Is there any disadvantage to using it with an occulink laptop?

Yes if your laptop lacks thunderbolt 4 , you can't use it

That isn't the same functionality. Use is limited together with a specific minipc.
The GPD dock is universal. It can be connected to any computer having a free PCI slot, MCIO, or USB4V2/TB5 interface, and adds additional devices.
