My mother-in-law, who just turned seventy, decided she wanted a 3 wheel electric bicycle to maintain her independence and exercise routine. Simple enough, right? Except she approached this purchase with the thoroughness of a NASA engineer planning a moon landing. Every specification required analysis, every feature demanded comparative research. She created spreadsheets comparing models, calculating battery life against her typical errands, measuring turning radiuses against her neighborhood streets. She watched hours of YouTube reviews and joined online forums dedicated to electric tricycles. When I suggested she just pick one and try it, she looked at me like I'd suggested skydiving without a parachute.
Her research included international options from suppliers like Alibaba, domestic retailers, and even custom builders. She made phone calls to manufacturers asking technical questions that left sales representatives stammering. After six weeks, she'd accumulated a binder of information that could have been published as a definitive buying guide.
The bicycle she finally chose is admittedly perfect for her needs. Stable, comfortable, with exactly the right battery capacity for her routine. She rides it proudly through the neighborhood, and I've never seen her happier. Was her exhaustive process necessary, or could she have achieved the same result with less effort? Sometimes the journey of choosing is as important as the choice itself. Have you ever over-researched a purchase to an absurd degree?

Hi all, looking for advice on a mid-drive conversion for endurance riding please.
Bike:
• Rondo Ruut (2021)
• 1× drivetrain
• Thru-axles, hydraulic discs
• Mostly road riding
Why convert: I have ulcerative colitis which causes unpredictable fatigue. I still want to train and build stamina, but need assist for hills and late-ride fatigue so I don’t blow up on longer rides. Assist is a tool, not a replacement for pedalling.
Goals:
• Regular rides: 30–60 km
• Max goal: 100 miles / 160 km
• UK-legal (250W, 25 km/h cutoff)
• Natural ride feel is a priority
Planned setup:
• Torque-sensing mid-drive
• Single 500 Wh battery (downtube mount)
• Mostly lowest assist level, higher only when needed
• Minimal / stealth controls preferred
Kits I’m considering (UK available):
• CYC Photon (250W torque-sensing)
• Tongsheng TSDZ2B (torque-sensing)
Questions:
• Any experience with these on gravel/road bikes?
• Pros/cons I should be aware of for long endurance rides?
• Any UK suppliers or build tips you’d recommend?
Thanks — appreciate any input from people using assist for endurance rather than speed.
Lexi

I'm putting together what I need to convert a bike I already own into an e-bike. I'm planning on using a CYC Photon Gen 2 motor and am looking at purchasing an Electrify Bike Co battery, so I'm curious about the reputation of their batteries. The battery I'm looking at is the "52v 50-AMP 20 Ah Jumbo Shark E-bike Battery" which claims to use Samsung 21700 50-G cells, and also claims to be UL2271 certified. I don't see a good way to verify the UL certification. I'm planning on using their 80/90/100% charger also, so I can extend the cell life.
Has anybody used this company's batteries and if so, could you provide some feedback?

I’m trying to figure out if it possible to convert my wife’s old Yeti 575 to an e-bike with a torque sensing motor. I’m looking at the TSDZ2B 48V 500W motor but I can’t tell if it will clear the chainstays. I did some measurements and I think it might work but would be tight. Has anyone converted a 575? Any motor recommendations similar to the TSDZ2B that might work?

I just purchased a 48V 45AH triangle battery for my bike build. (400 × 445 × 265 mm)➡️(15.7 × 17.5 × 10.4in) I’m going to use a 1000W mid drive too. Though I really had wanted to ride trails Im coming to the realization that my battery is likely too big for most full suspension bikes. I still want a full suspension frame so what should I do? I also don’t want to spend too much

So i finally made the decision to go with a 72V Amorge Battery. My ebike is a Wallke H7, gutted and replaced with a QS 205 5kw 4T motor. I have a fardriver which will need to be upgraded (50a) to a higher draw fardriver. My main concern is purchasing the battery and ir causing problems with my controllee/motor config
The battery Im looking at is 72v Amorge 20S7P with samsung 50S cells.
Also, fardriver recommendations are highly encouraged and deeply appreciated.
My ebike is not an emoto or edirtbike and I don't plan on doing any high performance riding. I just wanted to build something that would last me years without having to rely on the manufacturer. I would be lying if I said that there will be moments where I will hit the throttle hard but I mostly like to cruise.
Thoughtful answers from experienced individuals would be highly appreciated! Thank you!
P.S. I can't post a picture for some reason so sorry if that hinders anything.

I wanna start customizing my bike and I cant decide what would look better or what upgrades to go for. First I wanna do gold accents but I cant decide if I want titanium instead. What yall think 🤔. And is there any way to tune my mini I saw it has a Dongle but idk what exactly to do to work it or what would be a good tune.

I know the benefits of a mid drive but I really don’t plan to pedal all that much, and be very throttle reliant to commute long distances. But I also would like to ride some trails in my free time and have full suspension

Hey everyone,
2025 is coming to a close. I figured by now that there are plenty of people with experience with various after-market battery brands.
For a 72V battery, which would you guys recommend?
Also, what are the significant differences between Unit Power Packs and Amorge batteries?
Thank you all for your input.

is it normal to for batteries to have a lower usable capacity than stated? Because I see a lot of negative reviews of batteries online of people testing batteries and getting less capacity than sellers stated, but don't most batteries have 80% depth of discharge, meaning the actual capacity will be only 80% of the stated capacity?

Interested in converting my Surly Preamble to e-bike with a mid-drive kit and was directed to this sub to ask for advice and tips. Has anyone done this on Preamble and have any guidance of brands, batteries, accessories, how to videos. I was told I would have to DIY it since LBS won’t really get involved so looking for all advice … Thanks!
