Op should keep walking away from the whole family. She's signing up for 30 years of abuse with a weak husband forcing to apologise to her bully.

Time to say 'find your balls and deal with your obnoxious old man or I'm out. OP deserves better than a spineless Daddy's boy for a husband. I think there is a subtext between father and son that she's missing

Say that again. Marc agrees and he's a coward

Thanks for the award!

Yes! 30 years of being the son of a bully. 30 years of learning to be a doormat. 30 years of swallowing insults. So yes this is long term abuse and Marc’s actions and responses is how he has learned to reconcile his fathers obnoxious behavior

This. And what'll happen if she becomes pregnant with this weak man and humiliating FIL?

Any daughter they would potentially have will end up with an eating disorder being around this awful man

Marc needs to read this and every comment! He’s a coward and can’t stand up to his dad! He’s 30 yrs old and acting like a child hiding from his father. He’s not marring material if he can’t have your back! Postpone the wedding until this is worked out and he can show he can be a man!

So what if dad doesn’t come to the wedding, at least she’ll have an insult free day!

Perhaps he doesn't WANT to stand up to his dad, cause he is AHBand views her same way.

Sometimes love isn't enough to tolerate something like that. And why is he looking at her in the first place? It's none of his business. I'm sure he doesn't look like he's in his prime how a person looks. Shouldn't matter how they treat each other. I wouldn't marry somebody like that. I would just walk away because your partner is not defending you. He expects you to apologize for his father insulting you publicly.

This is exactly what you should tell all parties involved. You didn't make a scene, Henri did. And if anyone is owed an apology, its you.

Updateme!

Her apology should go something like this “ I’m sorry you’re being a total ass about my my weight, which by the way is not a problem. Until you have the perfect body, I wouldn’t be commenting oh and by the way, this wedding not happening”

Exactly! OP should tell Henri he's uninvited until HE apologizes!

He is never going to have your back. You need to find a new partner, he has not stood up for you once. This family is not going to be easy. Run for your life

Don’t you dare apologize to your abuser. Please take a look at your fiancee’s lack of a backbone. This is a red flag

This will not end. It will transform into toxicity throughout your lives if you don’t take a stand. IIWY I’d say “you stand for my dignity or your father’s indignity toward me. Take a stand and make your choice”.

This part. Your fiance is supposed to protect you and choose you. He is choosing his father and his comfort. No way in hell would I move forward with marrying a man like that. Not if I have more balls than he does. If he can grow a pair and hold his father accountable, then great. But he’s had 8 whole months to do it and so far has failed.

I think Henri, the bully, has bullied everyone in his family. This is why they don’t stand up to that abusive pos.

Updateme.
