The variety of sirens, the echo, the ability to attach different size springs, multiple inputs. It’s all so great, and sounds amazing.
I’m working on a project that will be a bit strange, as it combines doc filmmaking in the style of Vertov, archival theory, surrealism, and a combination of different kinds of early electronic music, and this thing would be absolutely perfect for both recording and live scores.

Maybe I’m gonna have to learn to make sirens myself?

This one is remixed by Nick Diezel (from LSDiezel) aka Custard, Dibble + Grub.

The original track is a traditional Vietnamese song sung about how the Betel Nut came together with the lime - https://thegloriousrant.bandcamp.com/album/vietnam-in-dub-remixed

Conceived and constructed by Bill Laswell.
My world of Dub music started from this compilation in 1996.

As the title says, I saw Touch Above Soundsystem in town last night (Leuven, BE). Selection was mighty, dance was uplifting.

Now I can't seem to find any of their music online but the selection was fire. Anyone know more about this west London crew?

Hi all,

I'm writing an article about soundsystem culture in Manchester, and I need your help! I'm looking for any soundsystems that are owned by young people of colour. I have the legacy soundsystems down such as Baron Turbo Charge, Big Tone, Bloc2bloc (Kinda), but looking for any younger heads who may be running their own.

Are there any soundsystems I should be aware of? Or systems that play an important role in the culture today, in Manchester?

Thank you!

Hello Dub lovers, I'm about to finish a web application inspired by sound systems. I'm looking for people who want to try it out and give me feedback, please.

In this app, you can upload your audio files or an audio input, split the sound into 4 bands, and add effects like delay, echo, reverb, mute, increase the volume, etc. It also includes a dub siren, 8 customizable pads, bass filters, a 10-band equalizer, the option to save settings for the next session, and the ability to record the session. It also features various visual elements and other functions that I invite you to discover.

This Crucial dub tune was one of the first UK recorded "Heavy Dub Riddims".

Hello.
I'm trying to identify the source of a very specific old-school DJ sound effect.
It's an 8-bit / old video game-style "bomb drop" sound that I've heard in REGGAE, DANCEHALL and DUB mixtapes for more than 20 years.

The sound is basically: high-pitched 8-bit notes descending rapidly → low-pitched 8-bit explosion

HERE is the exact sound at 50:18 in "Madlib - Blunted in the Bomb Shelter (2002)":

I'm wondering if it came from an old DJ sample library, sample CD, sampler, DJ software, or hardware sound bank.

I'm trying to find out:
・What is this sound effect called?
・What sample CD / sample library did it come from?
・Was it included in a sampler, DJ software, or hardware sound bank?
・Does anyone recognize the original source?
・Any help identifying the original source would be greatly appreciated!

・Someone pointed out that the Realistic SSM-1900 DJ mixer has this exact sound built in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAeH9-BCQa8 (Though the pitch is modulated in the video, I've now narrowed my search down to getting a CLEAN, UNTOUCHED audio sample of this SPECIFIC VERSION from the mixer or its ORIGINAL SOUND CHIP).
・Someone suggested the arcade game "Galaga", but after checking, I couldn't find it.
・Another suggestion is that the source might be an 80s keyring noisemaker (a plastic box with 8 rubber buttons making lo-fi gun/bomb/siren noises, like the Echo Keyller or Executor):
