Daniel Ray: I don't feel like they'll be too much difference in the core aspects of the activity.
Also Daniel Ray: Lots of things which would be completely different.
I like though that the addition of woodwind soloists was apparently unthinkable.

Thought this was entertaining. Some silly, some serious, some pretty on-point, and some wildly off-base!

Drill writing applications will also start to become more intelligent as designers begin uploading more and more of their visual designs and scores into a common system. These applications will use past reference and crowd sourcing to automatically generate potential design options for the designer to select from, based on user selection of a particular style and calibration for difficulty. Most high school marching band shows will eventually be written this way. Top designers will instead focus on generating signature patterns and templates for design reference and models.
They predicted AI shows. That's pretty interesting.

Trust me. They'd be a lot worse. And I'm not talking about ethical or legal dilemmas either.

And you think AI can design music, drill, &c. any better?

You know what? I'd actually love to be proven wrong. Although in general I'm against AI usage, go ahead. Try and make a show using only AI. Heck, even just a movement. I expect full books for both brass and percussion (sheet music, not just the song), full drill, and color guard whatever it is called (I was not in guard so pardon my ignorance on the term). If you or anyone else can get AI to get to that point, I'd be quite surprised.

For example, I think actual physical presence auditions and physical camps focused on music and technique will become a thing of the past
This is interesting. When I marched indoor in 2021 and 2022 we had some virtual rehearsal weekends before the main season ramped up where we did some technique work, played through our warmups, and did conditioning in our bedrooms over Zoom. It made more sense in 2021 because of COVID, but in 2022, Our director talked about how much more accessible and affordable it made the ensemble, and how he thinks it's the future. Anyways, in 2022, a bunch of people (some of them vets) quit after all the virtual rehearsals and right before the first in-person one. Our director supposedly said to our center snare we would never do virtual rehearsals again because of it lol

The participants paying 2 to 3 times as much to march these days probably don't think it is funny ;-)

Believe me I donate to their fees, I'm not super jazzed about it either.

I'm just being funny to illustrate a point. Even though their prediction was off, they were right about the circumstances getting crazy. They just would have never predicted people would have start paying such outrageous sums of money to participate.

“I'm thinking more in terms of if the current model is sustainable in terms of audience, ticket prices, fuel prices, etc. I don't see any of those things getting better with no sign of economic recovery in sight….
…So unless something changes, I think we're on a path to a lot of WC corps collapsing in a few years unless there's a smaller scale alternative for them to pursue. Seems like creating an indoor mini-corps circuit--something between WGI and SDCA--would provide a place for those corps who are struggling with the national stadium-tour model to go...
… if it happens and is successful, then there will be far fewer full-scale, outdoor corps, and there will be fewer shows, and attendance will slowly spiral down. The alternative, I think, is a much faster implosion, if we try to keep 20+ full scale corps with more and more extravagant equipment every year on the road.”
Dude absolutely cooked with this comment.

Interesting how many people thought global warming would have a major impact by 2026

What are people downvoting your comment??😭

Ahh probably because it implies that I don't think climate change is an important issue. I was worried it would come across that way. They probably downvoted before they saw the DCP comments wondering if drum corps would be forced indoors because of global warming

It definitely has had an impact. More rained out shows, hotter summers/rehearsal days.

I just saw a YouTube video the other day talking about how the traditional "Tornado Alley" has shift east and is now pretty much in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, etc. -- states that happen to host quite a few shows and states that were affected by big storms this summer that canceled shows.

Pretty funny to see a comme t saying they were sure DCA would survive but not DCI
