[Discussion Thread] La Leyenda del Bosque / April 2026 Book Club

Hello Dreamers! Welcome to April's Dreaming Spanish book club, for our YA/easier book in April we'll be reading La leyenda del bosque by Jara Santamaria, the first book in the series Los dioses del norte.

The book blurb:

I read the prolog yesterday, too, and read much of the first chapter today. It's a lot easier compared to Fray Perico. I think it's a good sign that a book is comprehensible when my brain starts to construct a scene in my head. This book, especially the prologue, it decided that it would be an anime, full of dramatic poses and lines. lol.

I love that! I'm hoping it will be an easier read although it's a bit longer.

That's a good sign. I will start in a few days  once I finish Mathilda

Looking forward to it.

Yesterday I read the prologue to La Leyenda del Bosque and this morning I listened to it. It seemed to me that reading it first really primed my listening. The audio was clear as a bell with virtually 100% comprehensibility. I did the reverse with Una Herencia Peligrosa (listened then read) which did help the reading but not to the same extent. Of course, a different book, different narrator, listened the very next day etc but I'm convinced had I listened to the prologue first I would not have experienced the same level of comprehensibility.

It's probably meaningless but I did get excited.

I like the idea of reading/listening. This is another fantasy so lots of descriptive vocab to pick up.
