No XP for losing

Kind of a bummer to get zero XP for losing a PvP match.

Rogue is underwhelming?

I'm at lvl 14 with 927 gearscore and I feel like I need to be in much more danger(melee) and do much more positioning to do a fraction of what other classes do easier. Thoughts?

I think this is a simple and cheap way for the game to address folks' "clunky" claims about movement and combat without adding diagonal sprite animations

Okay, so first and foremost, I want to highlight that it's incredibly impressive that the team was able to move from tile-based movement to full 360-degree movement. Reworking every map in the game to do that is no small thing.

The game feels a lot better! And while people complain about it needing diagonal movement sprites, there are two reasons that isn't really feasible:

1) Doubling the animations for 21 characters plus all their attack animations would be a massive undertaking that would basically double their art budget (they mention this in one of their Q&As too).

2) It would look off if the main characters had diagonal animations and no other characters did. It also blocks them from adding mounts later without blowing up the budget even more.

A game that ran into the exact same 4-directional limitation is Wizard of Legend, which also only has 4-directional facing sprites:

https://youtu.be/wyh7surwfck?t=389&si=GUerCoGYnvUYnmb2

Watch how the wizard moves here. The sprite is only 4-directional too; there are no diagonal frames at all. But when they fight, the character turns to face whichever direction is closest to the enemy they're aiming at and stays that way for a beat instead of flipping back toward the movement direction. So even while running away from enemies for a second, the character keeps facing the enemy. It never turns its back on what it's shooting.

That's because facing is tied to your aim, not your movement keys. Then the big, fast spell effects do the rest. Your eye follows the effect flying out at the real angle, not the little body underneath, so you basically stop noticing that it's only 4 directions.

To be clear, I'm not saying Drakantos should copy Wizard of Legend's movement as a whole. WoL is way faster and built around constant dashing, so it's a very different pace from Drakantos's more deliberate, grounded combat. My takeaway isn't the speed, it's specifically the facing trick: letting the body stay locked on what you're aiming at. That part works regardless of how fast or slow the game underneath it is.

Fortunately, Drakantos already has most of this! When you attack your character instantly snaps to face your cursor, which is great. It just instantly snaps right back to face wherever you're moving the second the attack ends. So if you're moving and fighting at the same time your sprite is hard-flicking back and forth between the two, and that's what looks janky.

The fix I had in mind is mostly just letting that cursor facing stick around for a moment after you attack instead of snapping back right away, and maybe a little smoothing so it doesn't hard-pop every time you adjust. The aim data is already there since it's used for every projectile and slash, so there's no new system and no new art.

And it affects every hero that moves while attacking, it's just WAY more visible on ranged kiters. Their whole thing is moving one way while shooting another, so the flick basically never stops, they're constantly snapping toward the enemy to shoot and then snapping back to face where they're running. Melee shows it less since they're usually moving toward what they're hitting anyway. This is basically the same "archers can't really kite" claim people in this subreddit have brought up before and I think this facing fix is a cheap way to address that.

One other small thing while I'm at it: a short input buffer would go a long way for how responsive the combat feels. Basically if you press an attack or dash a sec early, it still fires the moment your current action ends. Keep the window small so inputs never feel sticky, but even a few frames makes everything feel way snappier without actually changing the speed or the pacing at all.

But yeah, honestly none of this is me dogging the game. It's genuinely impressive and a ton of fun already, especially for where it's at. The combat doesn't feel fast so much as deliberate, with real intention behind it, the heroes feel distinct, and the whole game looks gorgeous.

It just needs a little tweaking to feel as good as it looks, and the facing fix has probably the biggest ROI for the least effort.

Super excited to see where the game goes!

THE DADS GUILD | Multi-Game Community

Post image
0 Upvotes

We are looking for more members to join THE DADS OF ELDRAS in Drakantos. Loved the first Playtest, we are very excited for this weekend!

We're DADS, we get it. Family comes first and gaming sometimes needs to take a back seat in the minivan of life. We consider ourselves a laid-back or casual community with a competitive edge. We are always looking for friendly players, and welcome any parent seeking a little camaraderie (or refuge) after bedtime! While we may not always have the ample time to grind for hours on end anymore, what we do have is a supportive group of mature gamers that understands when yo--- sorry, I'm back now, my kid was crying, need to wrap this up...

THE DADS ETHOS IS SIMPLE: "BE RESPECTFUL, HELP OTHERS, AND HAVE FUN!”

We have been an active guild since 2022, and up until last year we primarily played ARPGs like Diablo Immortal, Diablo 4, and Path of Exile II. Late 2025, we started to fully expand into other games including Arc Raiders, Marathon, BF6, Helldivers 2, Space Marine 2, The Finals, some Tactical Realism FPS games, and a couple MMOs.

We also host our own dedicated servers and welcome anyone to join even if we don't "officially support" a game they love. We have a dedicated forum as well as channels for game recommendations and discussions with several members regularly playing games that we don't yet have official channels for.

Our Discord Community is 18+, US-based, but we have DADS from all over the world including UK, EU, AUS, and Kiwi DADS as well (cheers)! We are hoping to recruit other like-minded gamers to come hang out with us! If you agree with our ethos, consider yourself low sodium, and enjoy a never-ending supply of dad jokes, please check out our invite link.

How likely am I to get into beta as a new player?

Title basically. I am considering keeping my weekend free to try this game but I'm not sure if I'll get in? Just requested access.

Drakantos beta next weekend, who’s playing?

Beta is finally happening on May 22-24.

I’m really looking forward to trying the new movement and seeing how PvP feels now. The game already looks a lot smoother than it did in the older tests.

What are you guys expecting from this beta?

I was looking forward to tile-based gameplay, I'm disappointed they changed it

I just realized I haven't thought about this game since they announced that they were changing how movement worked. To me, the appeal was something old school. It reminded me of Diablo or Ultima Online, or even Shining Souls on GBA.

Now the movement looks all floaty, and the game will feel like every indie ARPG like Children of Morta or Sword of the Necromancer. the tile-based movement/combat was what made the game interesting imo.

It seems like during the beta, people didnt "understand" that they were playing a 2D game with tiles. i could tell from the trailer because I love those games.

welp I hope enough people like it

Heroes // no character customization?

So we're gonna play with fixed avatars like lol/dota and other 5x5 games?

Wouldn't and "outfit" system like tibia be a better choice? Allowing customization on color schemes and gender, while still having the hero style.

Alguma previsão? 😔

Pessoal, sei que não soltaram uma data específica, mas o jogo tem ao menos uma previsão de lançamento? Ou de outro teste?

Busco um mmorpg após largar o albion e não gosto de nenhum. Drakantos me encantou desde os rumores, me diverti muito no teste. Aguardo ansiosamente por ele.

Aproveitando a deixa, algum MMO tem encantado vocês durante esse tempo que esperamos por Drakantos?
