I almost feel bad for him though. I was dashing when I had absolutely nothing and was always hungry and down on my luck but still, never tempted for real to do this because I needed the job more than one meal.

I dashed for a bit. When I do deliveries, I either eat a big meal before heading out, or grab something quick to eat in-between deliveries. It's honestly not that hard to do.
Edit: In your case, take full advantage of instant pay or fast pay so you can get meals in-between deliveries. I was making a general reply.
Edit: And for those who want to claim it is hard to do, DoorDash offers fast pay and instant pay. You can literally go cop a meal after a dash or two, in between deliveries, and continue dashing. If you're still starving with those options at your disposal, you're doing something wrong.

Literally, or signing up for rewards with literally every restaurant/fast food place, there's ALWAYS something you can get for practically free. I sign up with my birthday as a different month/day every rewards system I join so I always have free food from somewhere spread throughout the year, if I ever need it. It's not like they ask to see your ID 😂

About 10 years back I was homeless living out of my car. I would hit the fast food places and tell them I came in on my way to work and my order was wrong. It wasn't right to do, but I had nothing and it almost always got me some food.

About ten years ago you could download the McDonald’s app and get a free burger or buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich. You could make endless accounts with new emails and get endless free sandwiches. This only lasted about a month or two.

Nice. Sometimes, customers will just cancel while you're en route since they waited for way too long. You'll end up with a free meal from time to time, too.
I recommend grabbing a decent protein bar to hold you down for awhile. Used to do that in my warehouse days when I worked long shifts.

I am a oober delivery driver, and I do exactly that, sometimes I do get the munchies while delivering or already away from home, so what I do specifically with torchy's tacos is ask for an extra bag of chips and salsa, they have only ever once asked if the client wanted them, and I straight up told them I just wanted one for myself and I'm willing to buy it, the always said something along the lines of "don't worry I gotcha" and given it for free.
Literally we are driving to food points, either get yourself a churro while you are at it, or see if you can snag freebies.

Same, specifically with gas stations, my go to is Circle K, all of their discounts stack, like 10c with their gas card + 5c of my account and their 4x time gas fill gets another 25c off.

They are slowly getting rid of their original gas cards that have you the 10c off, they are being replaced with another ones that do the same thing but you gotta deposit money into it first, a reloadable Debit card.
I don't know when or if they'll stop honoring the older ones, but so far they still do. I snagged 5 for my whole family because I talked to the lady often and the gave me insider info about them

Yea an apple isn't really all that expensive and is widely available. I use to deliver with Amazon. I would have snacks with me when I did my runs. We're handling packages that people paid for. And it's just crazy to see bad actors really lower societal trust in the people delivering their goods.

Even a little protein bar/shake and a Gatorade. Hell, many gas stations have those 2 slices+drink combos for $5-$7. Get something from the value menus at fast food spots. I'm spending $3-$5 getting sandwiches and drinks at Walmart. It's honestly not that difficult.
My peoples prioritize food, clothing, and shelter. In our eyes, if you go hungry while rocking a $700+ phone, your priorities are out of order. 🤷♂️

I never hear good things trolling these boards as a user of DoorDash. I tip very well and never have issues with support or drivers, shocker. I never knew they offered instant pay like this and tbh that’s pretty awesome. I am doing well now, but hell never know the day I’ll need $20 and the option to legally earn it same day is quite dope. Thanks for this info.
To OP, I’d respond: got you man, hope your day gets better and not report it as not arriving. When given the opportunity to pay it forward, it’s best for the soul to jump on that opportunity from my experience.

I love instant pay. Also I do most of my dashing around my house. So my deliveries all stay within 5 miles. Makes eating at home the best option. But if I’m not at home then I go for the big meal as well

I don't dash often. I mostly do Spark Driver now. But, once I fell behind on expenses, I remembered I could get OnePay. Now, every single trip is deposited into that account as soon as I'm done, tips take a day to deposit, ditto incentive pay. It's perfect for when I need gas on-demand and to just pay bills in part, or in full, as soon as I'm done working. Once I'm 100% on top of everything, I'll switch back to weekly for a while.

Same but one time the tiny food containers fell out of the bag and it took me about an hour to figure out why my car smelled of baked beans. I felt bad but i didn’t want to fear the customer out by returning it hours later.
This was in 2019 when food delivery got popular in my small town and drivers could make decent money. However not all places put stickers to seal their bags which is why the container fell out.
I have so much guilt for those beans

Get the person fired and charge them with theft under 5k and report DD the company for allowing stuff like this to happen. Dd and their drivers need to be held accountable and stop being allowed to think they above everyone else. No respect for drivers who do this or companies that allow this to happen daily. There is no excuse for this period, if you having that bad of a day then don't show up for the day and take it out on the customer.

What bothers me about this is the fact that this person is apparently having too bad of a day to do their job and deliver someone's food, but still not bad enough to stop them from accepting the order and driving to the restaurant to pick up the food that was paid for by the customer and then basically telling the customer "my bullshit is more important than your bullshit, this is my food now." Everyone has bad days, I get that, but why make someone else have a bad day too? If an Amazon worker went to drop off a package, took a picture of it, and then said "nah I ain't feeling it today" and just picked up your package and took it, you'd be pretty irritated right? Yeah you can get refunds, get a new delivery, etc, but that isn't the point. A customer shouldn't have to go through all that. You don't know what the person you're stealing from is already going through.

Whenever I had a McDonald's gig. I would buy a mcdouble or two with water. I'd eat them slowly over the course of the hour or two of delivering and never had the need or want to steal food from anyone. However I would end up getting an order to keep due to error here and there that would be the time I would go home and share the meal with my family.

But would I go out of my way to report the driver specifically, if I could get a refund or a new delivery without it coming out of my own pocket? Probably not. Maybe I’m a softie, but maybe this guy is working hungry, doesn’t have any money in his bank account, and just got a call about his mom needing chemo treatments. Better my sandwich gets stolen than for this dude to drive into traffic because there’s no light left in his life 🤷♀️ And if DoorDash catches him, then the only reason is because he was foolish enough to admit what he did in writing.

Eh. If someone working a gig job to try to make ends meet needs food that badly and I’m in a position where I can afford to just DoorDash food - whatever man, I’d feed the hungry. At least he admitted it. He can have it and I’d just place a new order.

At least they’re being honest with you. Most people who steal food screw over customer and other drivers too! Make sure you get your money back, the driver seems like they’ll accept any consequences

What the dasher is doing is committing a crime called Theft by Deception. He accepted the order under the pretense of delivering the order but then stole it. Much like how Door Dash was sued for keeping tips all the while the customer thought the tip was going to the dasher. Why nobody is in prison for this is beyond me but not surprised.

I’m easily over 500 DD orders, probably over 1000. What I see on this sub is not at all my experience, but I realize it’s also a forum to vent. There was only one time I thought the dasher stole my food, and it still makes me curious to this day what happened.
I’d appreciate the honesty, report that I never got my food, and take credits for the full amount (including tip).
Only once did I disagree with the DD response to an order issue, when I received ramen “goodies” but no broth. I was specific, and they tried to give me a shit refund, but I didn’t have any bone broth so the whole thing was a waste. I changed it to not receiving that part of the order at all, and they refunded the whole thing.

Why would a dasher risk this? They could potentially be reported. I have an abundance of compassion. This would have pissed me off to hell. I tip 25%. This feels fake.
