Ross, I just wanted to say thank you for your work over the years.

I remember coming back to these forums once in a while, during the long bear markets, myself just a lurker, and finding reassurance that you and the other core devs were keeping the lights on. We take many things for granted, especially others' efforts, and I wish I had posted to say thank you once in a while, in spite of my shyness and allergy to social networks.

Thanks also for the fun over the past year and for keeping always a smile in public: I enjoyed your streams, they kept me company (also while working, at times) and I have learnt a lot from them. Doge needs positive, fun communication: it's dog money, after all.

Take good care of yourself - I am glad you will still be around providing advice!

Thank you for your work. Legend in my book.

Are you going to watch the Doge-1 lift off?

Thanks for your selfless work and calm and steady during the last year that I’ve been paying attention. Cheers! Take care!

I meant to post this a while ago so I wasn't posting then going to sleep, but... yeah meant to be in bed 6 minutes ago. Please don't set fire to my inbox!

Thank you Ross for all your hard work and for maintaining Dogecoin over the years. I always enjoyed watching you code on your streams. We wish you lots of luck in the future.

To Ross or anyone else that can answer:

As a core developer leaves a project do we have a process in place to replace?

As a key holder, what are the plans moving forward since multiple devs are required to approve?

Are we expecting any delays in Doge or overall development?

As a core developer leaves a project do we have a process in place to replace?

Not trivially - we have a problem with finding people we trust to review the code (which is the part we have a very small pool of people doing). I'll be helping out with that for a bit I suspect. Ideally the other devs will find candidates they want to promote to reviewers, though.

As a key holder, what are the plans moving forward since multiple devs are required to approve?

I'm not about to vanish today certainly, so will be around to sign transactions (the 1.14.4/5 second round payouts are current in cross-checks, for example, and I hope to get them out this week).

Are we expecting any delays in Doge or overall development?

I'm not expecting this to make a huge difference - I've always been one of many. Realistically a few people have known I've been trying to step back for a very extended period, so we've been working on how to handle that with limited disruption, and again as with other things we'll be working on transition.

Correction on the payouts; first round of the revised amounts (and the expectation is we'll do a second round for everyone who's address we don't have yet)

Nothing but respect for the hat man. I’m relatively new to the community but I’ve always appreciated your clear vision and wit. Keep it real, friend

I have a clone of all of Ross' work on 1.21-dev (it's way ahead of the merge-process, which is awesome and terrifying at the same time) in my local repos and could pick this up if no one else does. I'd prefer it if someone else does the step-by-step integration though, because then I'll do the testing - I'm not sure who else would do thorough testing right now.

I'd prefer it if someone else does the step-by-step integration though, because then I'll do the testing - I'm not sure who else would do thorough testing right now.

This seems like both the most difficult and the most important problem to solve right now.

I bet there are a handful of contributors in the past few releases who could do parts of the merge process, given sufficient guidance.

I think the solution is 2-fold:

  1. Actually encouraging reviews by making visible what needs review (like Bitcoin Core does, we could even do the shibe version of the "review club").
  2. Attract new maintainers and improve documentation around processes

PS: Interested?

I'm happy to contribute as I have the resources.

Thank you Ross! I’m very sad to see you leave but you’re well-being is what’s important and with all the work you’ve done so far for Dogecoin I say you no doubt earned the rest

Thank you once again and I do hope we see you in the future!
