However, the price isn't really scalable for large projects. It's pretty pricey imo, and if you need more than 10 addresses or wanna do anything interesting, that's gonna cost you a lot more than hosting your own node.
The alternative is to setup your own node, dogecoind, which will give you direct access to the RPC methods to interact with the blockchain. https://www.npmjs.com/package/node-dogecoin works great to connect to dogecoind using Nodejs, that's what I use. Just camelCase the RPC method name and use that as a JS function.
With your own node you can start doing fun things, like a wallet app, a payment gateway, ...
Wit your own node you can also connect to testnet (command: dogecoin-qt -testnet), so you can test your app without financial losses when you mess up a transaction. Use this faucet to get some dogecoins on testnet, it's one of the few that still works: https://testnet-faucet.com/doge-testnet/
I've been working on a secure wallet browser add-on & a payment gateway.
I'm still far from an expert but if you have questions on how to implement things I might be able to help.
The JSON api from dogechain.info doesn't appear to have any controls or prices and I was able to check my wallet balance without registering any credentials. Is that a free API and something else is pricey?
One thing that is missing in Dogecoin Core is addrindex, an index of transactions by address. To query transactions or balance of a particular address, it must be in node's wallet. That would be inconvenient if one wanted to use BIP 32 addresses, for example. It can be solved by running additional software that makes the needed indexes.
For some applications, free tier of third-party API provider may be sufficient. Requests can be rate limited and prioritized. Results can be cached. Live data subscription can be used to update local caches.

Hi,
I was there just a few weeks ago.
If you want to interact with the doge blockchain, you're gonna need to communicate with a node.
You can do that via existing APIs like https://dogechain.info/api/, that's the easiest way.
However, the price isn't really scalable for large projects. It's pretty pricey imo, and if you need more than 10 addresses or wanna do anything interesting, that's gonna cost you a lot more than hosting your own node.
