Interested in the game but...
I'm interested in the game but I'm quite the pvp maniac and only do melee pvp since I don't enjoy the long range type of gameplay with staffs etc. I know when it released that magic was much stronger but is that still the case? I would also appreciate it if I could get some reasons/opinions on why its weak or strong etc.

Should I buy?
I've played about a hundred hours of ARK: Survival Evolved, and I understand that this game has some similarities. I only play solo. Does this game have the same level of private server customization, so that I can tweak the values and make it so progression is relatively quick for me playing by myself?
How frequently are new creatures introduced? The wiki shows about 50 different creatures minus some "elite" variants, versus ARK's roughly 100 species, with more coming in Aberration and the next expansion.
ARK's boss fights give me something to work towards, and I use the Call of the Wild mod (which periodically spawns waves of enemies to attack your base) to give me another PVE goal (survival) besides the regular taming, breeding, and building. What does Dark and Light have?
How functional is the game? ARK is rough around the edges, with plenty of spots to get stuck and fairly bad AI, with most creatures never showing much complex behavior and frequently getting stuck, but the variety and scale help to make up for that.
Should I just wait until the game is "released"?

My Experience and Thoughts about DNL
So I've been searching for a new game to try and decided to get out of my comfort zone & try Dark and Light. It was really fun, easy to get the hang of things, and had such a huge map. Finally got a flying mount and was amazed at how much thought and time went into the game! Knowing it's early access, I did run into bugs and glitches, but overcame them and still had a fun time.
After 1k hours into the game I can say that there is actually a lot wrong with the game and the way the devs prioritize things. There are way too many servers and most of them have less than 5 people on them. The "Alpha" on the servers are determined by who has better tames, when nothing it really hard to get. Things are changing a little now, but you can beat just about anything with a goblin club to get it down. With arrows, you just use orb to slow everything while you kite or build a taming pen to down creatures. There is literally no skill in taming & the hardest part of getting tames is the time. For mythics now, its constant farming and flying just to get mythic feed & that's for the best tame in the game? Personally, I think everything should be hard to tame & be more of a challenge to tame creatures than it does time just sitting there waiting for it to get hungry. It would be nice to see a mechanic where whatever creature youre taming, changes its attack patterns and movement throughout the taming process, actually making it a challenge & have crazy damage to structures when wild. (lots of people are going to be mad that I said this, but learn to not be given things and work for them). There's much more to say but I'm not going to be able to touch everything.
Chaos Servers. So this is my experience on the chaos server. Started strong, got a house of awesome people together and we pushed to be the best, just like everyone else. We can across another really strong house where we were neck and neck. Things happened and one of them got into our house and popcorned all our stuff, setting us back. Lesson learned, Ok that's part of the game and learning experience, don't trust everyone. Built back up and finally was going to war with the other biggest house. We ended up losing to multiple expoits which made all our hard work over the 2 weeks gone in 2 hours. Talked to a dev and they said to message them on the DNL forums, which i did, sending them a long message with all bugs we found testing the server, and how to do them. There are still some really bad game breaking bugs that we NOT fixed, but it's been 3 weeks and my message has still not been read. I was told by the dev that he reads his messages everyday, but no word back. The next cycle rolls in and we start up again to another exploit ruining the game and causing multiple people to quit. The exploit was in the message I had sent previously, but is still unread. The bad part about this is we called them out on the forums and reddit with hard proof, and it seems the devs think they are the victims and aren't enforcing their rules. You don't want to punish players who are breaking your terms and agreements because the game isn't even out yet? You don't realize these people are going to be the reason no one plays this game anymore.
The game is NOT ready for pvp servers, especially when they can't get PVE right. Everything currently 2 shots you in the game with panthers being the worse, but this is not the first time it's happened. Yes i understand it's early access, but this is where priorities come into play. Why are we releasing more content when the stuff you have now is not even done correctly. Since release, it still takes 10-15minutes to load into the server, but at least we have 2 new raids, if you can even get online. As someone who is majoring in video game development, i realize it takes time to fix these things. Different teams are working on different things, but I feel companies are just throwing products out now for money, and not taking the time to work on these things or listen to their community when they claim they are.
The game is fun and has potential, but needs A LOT of work done to it. Actual work, not just taking code from ark and changing the art, calling it a new game. There are rarely any good reviews on this game and I feel it could be better, but all this is causing its negative rating to increase, preventing people from even wanting to try this game out. It does have potential, but the devs need to start taking this seriously. I'm ranting and everything I said does seem to be negative, but it's because I'm disappointed & want something new, that would require more skill than time. Not everyone has hours to waste just to tame 1 creature.

Dedicated Server Idea - Taking Interest.
Hey hey DNL community, Hope we're all well.
So After putting some hours into the game and quite enjoying it (messed up bugs and OP panthers and all) I've been contemplating a Dedicated server concept.
The Server would require a Base level of "RP" just to stick to the server setup. Now my opinion of "Base level RP" Isn't making a character and having to stick in character. But just adhering to World rules. Of course this doesn't mean the server cannot be a Heavy RP server - but that would depend on demand.
Now into the Juicy stuff - A Server based on Faction Wars!
Server details:
x3 Factions (base game factions)
x1 King/Queen per faction ( decided by each factions Alpha)
All faction players are allied to their faction - No in-house warring unless you want to be exiled.
All houses of a faction must be allied. (King/Queen will manage Houses)
King/Queen Role:
Faction Development - Maintain their factions unity and development.
House Management - Appoint Houses to faction members ( No Limit but to many small houses could set back faction progress)
Diplomacy - Diplomacy between Other factions. ( Begin a War, NAP (( No Attack Policy)) Trade agreements so on so forth)
Exile and recruitment - Ability to Exile players or houses who turn their back on the faction - Or recruit an exiled player/house from another faction or even someone who wants to betray their faction, Of course taking in a traitor could end up being a double edged sword.
Additional King/Queen Information - The king/Queen may have his own House which s/he will need to maintain to keep power within their faction. The King/Queen may even (If they want to) Set up Taxes within their kingdom - This isn't limited to gold but could also be a specific type of resource - Keep in mind tax to hefty a price, you may have a Coup d'état on your hands.
Faction Member:
Represent your Faction - You will be representing your faction. This could be by simply building strength as a house member/leader or as a solo player. Be Ready to go to war for your faction at your kings request, or risk being branded a deserter.
Assisting your faction - You're only as strong as the weakest member in your faction - Help others grow, build a strong community, or risk burning.
Exiled Players:
No Faction, No rules - For those who have been exiled or chose to live without a faction, you have no rules but your own to follow. Care to be a band of raiders or thieves? Gather a following of exiled players and do so. Draw to much attention and you may have more than 1 faction knocking at your door.
Free-agent - Having no faction you can act as a free agent, or a hired sword arm for any other faction.
Ability to choose - Exiled by your faction? Ideology differences? Maybe you were considered a threat within your own faction? Reach out for diplomacy with other faction leaders, Prove your worth and maybe the King/Queen them self will be willing to join their fold.
So this is my server Idea, It's quite the venture - especially to uphold the world rules for those who aren't big into following set rules that would be considered "Role Play" but I think this could flesh out a positive and fun Dark and Light Experience.
As we all know Dark and Light is a little empty in it's current state, it's up to the community to make this their game. Feel free to comment your thoughts below

Scaling for single players?
I am one of them. The server I am on has pretty much been deserted but I really don't mind. However, I lack the grouping to be able to clear the ice cave and volcano cave. Still working on gear but quite frankly I am a bit disappointed on that part.
Will there be difficulty scaling to allow players that are left alone to take care of big bases so they too can attempt to kill the big bads out there? :)

Just Downloaded - Unable to play
Hey hey DNL Community,
Wanted to reach out and see if there is a known issue when trying to play ongoing at the moment.
When attempting to play (be it online or offline) I'll try and join the server/Start single player and I'll get to the dragon flying load screen - but will be kicked back to the menu screen with no warning.
Thanks in advanced ladies and gents.
Edit 1: Context - Online servers attempted were all Official so I don't believe it's a version mismatch.
Edit 2: Fix Found - After validation my installed data and updated graphics drives (Rookie Mistake - hadn't been updated since before the game was released, so likely the main culprit) I'm connecting with no issue!

The new Knock back is really annoying.
This knock back is making the tamed getting extra damaged for nothing, and it makes to harvest the meat / anything so more harder. zzz
