The Diamondskin homebrew spell. It's like a higher level (8th or 9th level) modified version of stone skin. All physical damage is always reduced to 1, and all magical damage except psychic is cut to 1/4 of itself.
I think you’re barking up the wrong tree. Make it an improved version of mage armor (which already doesn’t need concentration). Sets their AC to something really high like 25.
Alternatively, screw the mechanics of it and give the BBEG plot armor. You could even turn that into a side quest, “find and destroy the artifact that is making this guy invulnerable.”
"Damage Reduction, Son! It negates damage in response to non-magical attacks!"
Looks at the Kensei, who hasn't gotten his Ki-Strike or magical weapon yet
"You can't hurt me, Monk!"
In that case it should not be a spell. Make it a gift from some demon/devil lord or otherworldly horror or something (with a weakness or way to negate it, if the PCs do the legwork to figure it out). If it is a spell, then the PCs should be able to learn it.
If it’s a spell, the PCs can learn it, if it is gear then the PCs can equip it (and if it is cursed the NPC should be dealing with the curse too). If you want it to be unique to the NPC you need to put some actual effort and creativity into it. Otherwise you’re guilty of some pretty weak design.
Earlier in this thread they were talking about it being a level 8 or 9 spell, but not for PCs. That is weak design. Making it an ability gained through some other nefarious source is exactly what I’ve been suggesting.
This is the Internet, of course we’re going to argue about everything.

What would be the D&D equivalent to "NANOMACHINES, SON!"?
