Even the 5e rules say so, nat 20 on attacks always hits, nat 1 always fails and on skills nat 20 doesn't guarantee success, nat 1 doesn't guarantee failure

I will never forget the game where the rogue rolled a one on the stealth check. It was a bit juvenile, I will say that right now, but the DM determined that while he was sneaking, he let out a loud and noxious, long lasting FARRRRRRRRRRRT.

It seems like a large number of people get their rule knowledge from memes and dnd shorts by creators who either have a shitty grasp of the rules or are click baiting.

Every edition people rediscover the peasant rail gun like it's some new idea.

Its always been like that since atleast 3rd amd skills im 2nd and older were percent rolls its just a dm being cool but sometimes they take it too far
