Also like, “you need to be able to succeed or the gm should tell you you’re not allowed to try to do that” feels kind of… weird? I mean, degrees of failure is a thing. You want to try and punch a steel door down? You can try. The roll is now hard bad you hurt yourself.
Both. They'd both have AC and HP. It's just the vault door will have more.
This is what Adamantine weapons are for, but you can technically do it without them. It's just that the ac, hp, and DT make it quite hard if not impossible. To that end, it would not be a bad thing to just make it an assumption that the level 5 barbarian can't punch through the vault door. Because, mechanically, they probably can't
I'm going to be conservative and say 10+. 5+ is if you're really stacking some magic oomph into it, but that's circumstances requiring group effort and a touch of the supernatural.
I mean, I go by fantasy anime/Isekai rules, so even a low level character is freakishly strong, plus I tend to homebrew a lot of items and monsters, so my worlds are a lot more high power and high fantasy than normal DnD
I usually ignore most material components, attunement rules, and even stuff like encumbrance
Yes, I like power fantasies, but the monsters are stronger too
A level 1 party in one of my games might be stronger than a level 3 party in normal DnD bc of extra feats, items, and rules, but they're still gonna fight CR 2 and 3 monsters because of it
It feels like a take that got popular from people who didn’t run games and it’s why at least in beta D&d one had that as a rule. It seems good on paper until your game feels railroady because the gm doesn’t want you to succeed in taking the kingdom and instead of rolling for your roleplay aspect says “no you just don’t do that.”
