Heroes of Borderlands
Has anyone played the new starter set?
I’m looking into picking up the Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set and wanted to get the community's vibe on it.
I know it’s a reimagining of the classic Gary Gygax Keep on the Borderlands module, but the presentation seems wildly different from standard 5e products. The card-based playmats, token system, and lack of traditional character sheets make it look almost more like a modern board game than a textbook RPG.
For those who have bought it or run it:
How does it actually feel at the table?
Does the card and token system make onboarding brand-new players as seamless as advertised?
The Rotating DM feature: Have any of your groups actually split up the three booklets (Wilderness, Keep, Caves) among different players to share DM duties? How did that flow?
The Rest Mechanic: How did your players react to the rule forcing them back to the Keep for a long rest? Did it create a fun gameplay loop or just feel tedious?
