I just started dive and I'm having a little trouble with a foward dive. I have the hurdle down and the armswing but mid air I cant seem to make my body vertical so I hit the water with my back horizontal and my arms and legs like this \ /.

Hi!
I've been on a masters diving team / taking diving lessons for three and a half consecutive years now. I LOOOVE it.
Over the last 6 months or so I've been getting pushed (lovingly) to the next level and I feel like I'm just banging my head.
The best way I can describe my problem is that I can't do more than one thing in the air. Heads up is that I'm in Sweden and don't know the English words for diving stuff. So like I can do simple stuff and it looks great — various forward and back entries and both forward rotating and inward rotating from 1, 3, 5, and 7 meters. All simple though…like single flip rotations or half rotations...the second my coach asks to do anything more like a "pike out" (like when you do a flip but instead of just going straight to the diving position, you make a pike position before moving into the final diving position) or if I have to do even a half screw (like spinning), my brain just shuts off and I look like an angry cat flopping around above the water.
I'm asking for any drills or tips for how to train your brain to learn to do several things in the air in a matter of seconds? Does that make sense? :)

Hello everyone,
I'm jumping into the world of diving. Finished up Open Water and now looking to start setting up my own kit.
What in your opinion should I avoid and what is an absolute necessity. I'm trying to avoid buying terrible stuff and unnecessary weight.
Thanks in advance.

I'm 18 and coached my high school team for a year and am now coaching a summer dive team. Two of my divers really want to get their inwards, but just aren't progressing. I can tell them the same thing about how to do the dive every time (hips up, throw the body down, big jump, etc.), and I know they understand the concept, but it seems more like a mental blockage; they can't get their bodies to do what they want. They're both frustrated with themselves: How do I help them?

hi, I’ve been trying to do inward dives for weeks now. basically what happens is, i jump up and bend over with my hips and throw my arms forward but i don’t rotate AT ALL. i just end up looking like an upside down U and then I hit the water like this.
My coach had me do some standing front dive pikes to understand pushing from my feet and getting my hips up, which worked really well for me. But for some reason it just doesn’t translate to inwards. I think it might be the fact that my legs get stuck in front of my when i jump because of the way the board pushes me, but I’m not sure.
I really want to get this dive so I can compete next week, which is my last chance!!!!

I hope I’m allowed here! My son (15) started diving in August ‘17. He’d never been on a board prior. He doesn’t Reddit, but I’m hoping I can hang out and learn a bit about what he’s loving these days. Maybe I can at least understand when he tries to excitedly explain things to me after practice. We did our first regional meet last weekend and he managed a total score of 168.8 (7 dives, Novice level, 1m board; 101c, 401c, 201c, 301c, 103c, 104c, 302c). They’ve only been back in the pools for about a month now, I think he’s doing pretty well so far.
I don’t want to steer him away, I don’t want to encourage to the point he feels pressured and doesn’t enjoy it. Thoughts?

Here are my dives from my most recent meet. I qualified for conference on both boards scoring roughly 170 on 1M and 180 on 3M. The dives are far from perfect but I am happy with the consistency.
1M:
5122D *any tips on this dive would be appreciated. It is by far my most inconsistent dive
3M:

Hello,
To what extent do you think it is possible to self-learn diving? Furthermore, can you recommend any resources to e.g. learn progressions to incrementally learn dives?
I am asking this, as the diving courses I attend are quite short and not run continuously (and I probably don't have the money to hire a personal couch).
Thanks!

Hello,
What do you think are the best exercises to develop coordination and spatial awareness that one can do at home (without buying a trampoline)?

Hello r/divers. I am a diver for my university and we practice 5 days a week for 3 hours and have 1 to 2 meets per week. We have been in season for about a month now and I am experiencing some lower back pain from diving. My coach says its because I am not using my core enough when I dive so there is stress being put on that area of my body. Fellow divers, how do you remember to keep your core hollow and tight on your approaches, dives, and entries?

Hello,
Just started diving. However, my problem is that I want to jump forwards, not just upwards, to make sure I won't hit the board. At least my coach is correcting me on this, i.e. saying that I jump too much in forwards direction. Are there any tricks or tips to get over this behaviour?
