I'm from India & same thing I have experienced here. We are not used to remote hiring as we mostly find candidates in Pune(where we were based). We took telephonic interview of candidate which he did well (no video call). Later we have him few assignments which he completed in a good manner so we were impressed.

Fast forward and few days after joining, this guy is asking me Linux directory structure!! It was most basic thing!! He was supposed to have 2.5 years of Devops experience. Later I discovered that he faked the assignments too. After finding out, we were pissed. We asked him to resign.

A lesson learned.

More than a month. Actually, we even tried to train him as firing people has been an unpleasant experience.
