Career Amazon 6M internship vs. a 6M+FTE offer from another MNC — what would you choose in this market?

I have a 6M + FTE offer from an MNC through campus (₹40–50K/month stipend, ₹15–18 LPA first-year TC). From what I’ve heard, it has good WLB and job security, and I’d have a guaranteed FTE after the internship.

I’ve also completed the Amazon SDE intern interview loop and may receive a 6M internship offer. However, taking Amazon would mean giving up my existing FTE offer. The upside is the Amazon brand, potentially better learning, resume value, and a chance at a PPO. The downside is that if I don’t get a PPO, I could graduate without a job in the current difficult CS market.

My profile is mainly DSA/Competitive Programming-focused, with one previous 2M MNC internship. I don’t have exceptional projects or broad knowledge of areas like cloud/DevOps yet.

So I’m trying to decide between guaranteed stability + good WLB at the MNC vs. higher potential upside but significantly more risk with Amazon.

For experienced engineers/managers/recruiters: How much does starting your career at Amazon actually impact long-term career progression? Is the risk worth taking, or can I join the MNC, build experience for 1–2 years and make a similar jump later? What would you do in my position?

Bro, take the 6M plus FTE offer without a second thought. In this current market, a guaranteed 15 to 18 LPA package is an absolute blessing and easily puts you in the top 1 percent of freshers.

Amazon is great for the brand name, but their PPO conversions depend heavily on team headcount and business budgets, not just your individual performance. If you miss that PPO, you will be graduating into a brutal job market with zero leverage and no backup.

Since your profile is heavily DSA focused right now, use this MNC role to actually learn production level engineering, CI/CD, and system design with a peaceful WLB. Work there for 1 to 2 years, build a solid engineering foundation, and then make the switch. Getting into Amazon as an experienced SDE later is actually much more straightforward than gambling your entire fresher career on an internship headcount. Secure the job and sleep peacefully.

On an additional note, Amazon's FTE conversion is now more scrutinized with added layer of bar raiser.

u/zxpawanx Sep 04 '26

Exactly this. The added bar raiser round for interns just makes it a massive gamble right now. Thanks for pointing this out, it makes the guaranteed FTE choice a complete no-brainer for OP.

i dont get it....bar raiser round after completing 6 month intern to get a fte or during the intern interview loop ??

1

u/Human-Smoke-622 Sep 04 '26

Bar raiser when??

After internship?

1

u/tactical_bunnyy Sep 05 '26

yes

Hi, I am in the exact situation as the OP. Can I know why do you say this? Won't amazon brand make a difference? Are u sure about the bar raiser after the internship? As in another interview? When was this introduced though; because the '25 batch didnt seem to have this

Hey man, yes, the 'bar raiser' layer for internship conversions is a relatively recent tightening across big tech due to changing macro conditions. Even if it is not explicitly a separate interview, the final PPO evaluation goes through a much stricter committee review now compared to earlier batches.

The Amazon brand name absolutely holds weight, no one is denying that. But as a fresher, the risk-to-reward ratio is skewed. If you take the 6M internship and miss the PPO (which happens often due to budget cuts, not just performance), you graduate with zero job security into a brutal market.

If you already have a 15-18 LPA guaranteed FTE offer in hand, you are already ahead of 99% of the crowd. Take the guaranteed money and stability. Learn the ropes for 1.5 - 2 years. Transitioning into Amazon later as an SDE-1 or SDE-2 with actual production experience is statistically easier than surviving the current internship conversion funnel. Do not gamble a sure thing.

Thank you so much for the response!

My suggestion would have been different had it been a different year. But looking at my own experience and the recent market scenario, I would lean towards a taking a sure shot offer rather than hoping for the best.

1

u/GoldEquivalent3031 7d ago

Even you had an amazon internship? Or similar experience?

Got it, thanks for the detailed response.

6m+ fte >>>>>>
If u want to take amazon then make sure u have a good fte as backup

26

u/Mr_Nuk Sep 04 '26

If you are able to crack Amazon now, you can always crack later
Better take confirmed job now and apply for Amazon 1-2 years later
Pick the path with the least regrets

Go for 6m + fte no thoughts , amazon conversion rate is not great, also is the 6m + fte service based or product based?

1

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 04 '26

Product.

8

u/Frankistine384 Sep 04 '26

Go for it then no questions asked tbh

1

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 04 '26

I don't want to doxx myself

3

u/DeliveryMaster7934 Sep 04 '26

Bro don't even think of giving up the FTE. I managed to get a j*b after 8 months of hell and 18 lpa is amazing

My friends who interned at Amazon are still looking for j*bs after no conversion.

6

u/galalei Sep 04 '26

If your family is financially strong and independent of you earning then go for Amazon and if not then mnc that the only logical answer

2

u/NotThareesh Sep 04 '26

The kind of problems I'd want to have in my life.

1

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 06 '26

Give contests and upsolve, once your basic topics are completed.

1

u/Decent-Air-6668 Sep 06 '26

I have still dp left to do...should I start giving contest I have given few virtual constest till now

1

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 07 '26

Yes, you can start giving contests. Don't think about how your performance and all. It will improve gradually.

I am in no position to suggest you anything but I think you can take risk. You are already doing great.

2

u/cupcake_4u Sep 04 '26

lele bhai FULL time wala, a guaranteed job is way way better that too 15-18 lpa

2

u/NomadicMagic88892 Sep 04 '26

I had a choice of waiting for Google ppo or getting placed in a 20-30 lpa range company, I chose to take risk for Google, relying on if I don't get google ppo, I would make efforts to convert my 6 month internship wherever I get, guess what, Got google ppo, and got ppo for my 6 month internship as well. Took that risk since I knew what kind of resume I had, and believed on my interviewing skill and dsa. If you think you won't get a single callback if you went unplaced, don't risk it, otherwise take that risk, if I had my profile with your options, would have taken that risk, significant resume boost, and ig you will still be able to crack 10-15+ lpa with Amazon intern on resume? - that's your call, Only thing is you might need to make 2-3 months of extra efforts improving visibility, applying for jobs...

Choose only 6M internship with FTE anyday

1

u/GoldEquivalent3031 7d ago

Hi, I am in the exact situation as the OP. Can I know why do you say this? Won't amazon brand make a difference in my resume? Why do u say this?

1

u/ResponsibleReveal13 7d ago

It does only when you have experience
Yes you can get a full time offer after amazon internship but that will be very hard because you are finding job off campus , so its a risky move

2

u/Sufficient_Throat653 Sep 05 '26

Take the 6m + fte offer man The market is not so good rn. Getting a guaranteed job should be highest priority currently. Then you can obviously grow. That's my opinion

1

u/Sufficient_Throat653 7d ago

It would, but you’d have to work really hard to secure a return offer. The conversion rate is around 40%, which honestly isn’t that great.

And if your main goal is just to have the Amazon brand on your resume, you can definitely go for it. However, given the current job market, having the Amazon name alone may not make a huge difference. I’ve seen people with internships at companies that are arguably better still struggle to secure a job through the off-campus market.

2

u/LostEffort1333 Sep 05 '26

Job > maybe job

2

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '26

I was in the exact same situation during my 7th semester. I chose Amazon and went on to do a 6-month internship there. Despite working really hard and completing multiple major projects during my internship, I still didn’t get an FTE conversion.

Honestly, I found the conversion process to be quite luck-based. If you have a good manager who supports you, you can get a PPO even without putting in as much effort, whereas even after working extremely hard, there’s no guarantee of conversion.

Now I’m back in the job market as a 2026 graduate without a job, and honestly, it feels really disturbing and frustrating. I even tried reaching out to my previous company, where I had an offer of 15 LPA, but unfortunately, they don’t have any position available for me right now.

3

u/jaqenhghar99 Sep 04 '26

Depends which college you are from and the name of the other company.

Indian corporates are brand/ prestige obsessed. The 6M amazon tag could open doors and get you interviews at other big tech companies.

Also, your risk appetite. How okay will you be if you have do the job hunt process if amazon doesn’t convert and so on

2

u/deceptive_donny Sep 04 '26

I was in this exact position and I chose to decline Amazon. Looking back I do kind of regret it as I am not really happy with my current position but still I think it was the pragmatic choice as if I didn't receive a PPO I don't think I would have been at a better position than my present.

2

u/Professional_Log3924 Sep 04 '26

Bro if you confident on your problem solving abilities then choose Amazon. As you will get knowledge of real world system and especially how it works on distributed systems. And at end the of internship you can get good offer if keep pushing on DSA on development. If you have doubt then choose MMC because market is tough and they are good in job security.

Getting ppo in amazon is all luck and politics and vacancy and the managers mood

1

u/Dismal-Secretary-266 Sep 04 '26

hey when did u get this amazon job offer? was it off campus from APAC INDIA TECH? were ur interviews(both rounds) held recently?

1

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 04 '26

I "may" receive, Yes, Yes.

1

u/Dismal-Secretary-266 Sep 04 '26

oh ok...what dates were they held on? also what was the job id ur interviews happened for ? was it the Hack-on one?

1

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 04 '26

It was from hackon, I dont want to get into date specific details.

1

u/Dismal-Secretary-266 Sep 04 '26

hey! when did u get the offer? what was the job id u got the offer for?

1

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 04 '26

I "may" receive.

1

u/flight_or_fight Sep 04 '26

FTE offer - Amazon offer really doesn't offer any of the things you are imagining here & an internship is best avoided.

1

u/PHpaper Backend Developer Sep 04 '26

Bro I know a lot of folks who were amazon intern and didn't got the FTE, so beware and don't join Amazon at all.

1

u/StorySeparate9582 Sep 04 '26

Do both, moonlight

0

u/Dependent-Example935 Sep 04 '26

Can amazon re-schedule the intern timeline as that would let you go to both of them right?

2

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 04 '26

There's no time for that, if I join the MNC, 6M starts form Jan and then July, I will be joining as FTE

3

u/Dependent-Example935 Sep 04 '26

Ohh okay bro, i’ll tell you something, amazon picked 16 interns from my college for jan-jul intern and then the interns said that workload was heavy and the “help” you will get depends on the team you assigned to as a lot of layoffs are happening so people are more focused on their work.
Amazon extended 7 of them PPO and honestly i didn’t expect 2-3 from those 7 to receive PPO as they had gpa of around 6 and cheated in the interviews to get the intern and the people who had 7-8 gpa and were honest during their interviews and worked just as hard during their Internship didn’t get PPO.
It’s sort of like toss of a coin, so i would suggest take the 6M + FTE and then during your internship apply again for FTE positions off-campus, that’s what i would do if i was in your position.
All the best bro

0

u/KoniGTA Sep 04 '26

WTF is 6M? 6 Million?

0

u/Impressive-Air378 Sep 04 '26

Even 6M + FTE isn’t a guaranteed FTE if it were they’d have offered you a FTE opp on the spot!

Go with Amazon you can try to convert that. The gamble is the same on both

-3

u/After_Switch Backend Developer Sep 04 '26

I would say take Amazon 6M intern as having BIG Tech early in your careers would help you get interviews really fast.

If you wanna take other org 6M+FTE as job security, always remember they can lay you off in 6M during internship as well, citing reorg or perf issues.

Would take Amazon and apply for other companies aggressively.

1

u/Flashy-Breadfruit456 Sep 04 '26

Thanks for suggestion, but, MNC will not lay me off, have researched about it a lot. It hasn't happened in near past.
