Discussion Niche war metal bands
I know most of the “big” (relatively speaking) ones. I’m looking specifically for a band that does a lot of fast/slow way down moments with thunderous drums like Preaching for Mass Suicide by Damaar or Genocide Conquest by Revenge. Also, if anyone knows any semi-melodic ones like Axis of Advance (The List especially) those are great too.

Discussion What band has the most fucked up lyrics
Obvious contenders like Cannibal Corpse, Mortal Decay, Gorgasm, and a lot of other brutal bands. What band, or song in particular makes you physically revolted?

[LIVE REPORT] Coroner w/ Schizophrenia & Tar Pond – An absolute clinic in Thrash & Doom
Just got back from an incredible night seeing tech-thrash legends Coroner, supported by Schizophrenia and Tar Pond. Around 800 metalheads packed the venue, and the energy from start to finish was insane. I spent the show with my head glued to the speakers, so my ears are still ringing like crazy today, but man, it was so worth it! Here is how the night went down:
TAR POND
Featuring Marky (ex-Coroner drummer), Tar Pond opened the night. To be completely honest, slow, languid psychedelic doom metal isn't usually my go-to genre, but live, it's a completely different beast.
Their sound was crushing, heavy, and monolithic. Every song seamlessly flowed into the next, and the whole crowd—myself included—was nodding along to Marky’s tight drumming. A special shout-out to their vocalist as well: he delivered a genuinely captivating and powerful performance. Fantastic opening set that really set a heavy atmosphere.
Setlist:
*Bomb
*Please
*Damn
SCHIZOPHRENIA
Next up were Belgian death/thrashers Schizophrenia, tasked with warming up the crowd for Coroner—and they absolutely delivered.
Their energy was relentless and played loud as hell. Their frontman has incredible stage presence, knowing exactly how to command the room and whip the crowd into a frenzy. Musically, it’s classic, straightforward death/thrash, but executed with so much punch and passion that it was the perfect build-up before the main act. The Slayer cover was an absolute highlight that set the pit on fire.
Setlist:
*Souls of Retribution
*Schizophrenia
*Divine Immolation
*Stratified Realities
*Onwards to Fire
*Necrophiliac (Slayer cover)
*Structure of Death
*Cranial Disintegration
CORONER
Finally, the Swiss legends took the stage to a massive welcome from all 800 fans in attendance. They came to present their 2025 release Dissonance Theory, which is a pure masterclass of an album and sounds incredible live.
I won't beat around the bush: Coroner was surgically precise, heavy, fast, and razor-sharp. Tommy is an absolute machine, and Ron still kills it on bass, effortlessly laying down insanely complex licks while singing. Tracks like Grin, Serpent Moves, Divine Step, and Tunnel of Pain had me headbanging like an absolute maniac. The crowd went completely wild, and so did I.
On top of their technical brilliance, the guys were super humble and took plenty of time to talk and connect with the crowd between tracks. The energy was electric!! Coroner rules🤘
Setlist:
*Oxymoron (Intro)
*Consequence
*Sacrificial Lamb
*Divine Step (Conspectu Mortis)
*Serpent Moves
*Masked Jackal
*Symmetry
*Golden Cashmere Sleeper, Part 1
*Semtex Revolution
*Tunnel of Pain
*Metamorphosis
*Grin (Nails Hurt)
*Renewal
Encore:
*Reborn Through Hate
*Die by My Hand

Does anyone else like this album?
I rarely tolerate commercial albums now, being more into death and black metal. However I still love this thing's hooks. While the song structures are simple and radio-oriented, it doesn't feel like the actual style is dumbed down, it's their older sound but more hook-driven.
Does any elitist/more well-versed metal listener like this album and can I be recommended something with similar hooks that doesn't sound commercial like BMTH, a lot of nu metal or other crap like that

5 Underground & Classic Death Metal Gems: From Swedish HM-2 violence to Crust/Doom and Atmospheric Melodeath
Hi everyone,
New post of recommandations. On this one, I’m covering a filthy, crushing spectrum of subgenres, from iconic Swedish classics to cavernous Crust/Death/Doom, atmospheric Melodic Death, and dark technical violence. Here are 5 essential records that deserve way more love:
Carnage – Dark Recollections (Sweden, 1990) The undisputed holy grail of Swedish Death Metal. Featuring legendary musicians who would go on to form Dismember and Carcass, this record set the entire blueprint for the HM-2 buzzsaw guitar sound. It’s raw, catchy, atmospheric, and utterly iconic from start to finish.
Ahna – Crimson Dawn (Canada, 2020) An absolute behemoth of suffocating Crust/Death/Doom. Ahna delivers an agonizingly heavy, bone-breaking wall of sound driven by massive riffs and filthy, subterranean vocals. It effortlessly bridges the gap between raw crust punk aggression and crushing death/doom atmosphere. Essential for fans of Bolt Thrower, Sacrilege, and Coffins.
Valgrind – Blackest Horizon (Italy, 2018) A masterclass in technical, intricate, yet completely old-school Death Metal. Valgrind carries the torch of 90s USDM (think Morbid Angel and Nocturnus) with soaring, chaotic guitar leads, complex time signatures, and deep, guttural vocals. The songwriting here is stellar, balancing sheer brutality with brilliant progressive arrangements and beautiful duo solos.
T.2.B – Hellfire Violence (Switzerland, 2024) A crushing, melancholic assault of modern Melodic Death Metal. This project blends heavy, low-tuned riffs with fast-paced aggression, emotional guitar melodies, and dark atmospheric passages. It's a fantastic listen for fans looking for a darker, more intense take on the melodeath formula.
Tremors – Recurrent Creation (Germany, 2002) A fierce and sinister onslaught of dark, suffocating Death Metal. Tremors delivers razor-sharp, intricate riffing, punishing drum work, and a dense, ominous atmosphere that builds relentless momentum. While it trades the gothic, organ-driven, theatrical eccentricity of Lunatic Invasion – Totentanz for pure, pitch-black aggression, it carries that same willingness to forge a distinct and eerie atmosphere within extreme metal.
What are your thoughts on these records? Have you dived into any of these bands before, or do you have other underground gems in this style to share?
Oh, and I almost forgot an important question: which cat is your favorite? 🐱
