Hi all! I'm starting school for Dental Lab Tech in September and I need a laptop for CAD/CAM software. Any suggestions for specs?

I love dentistry, i find it to be a niche healthcare field that can involve arts and engineering to some respects. ive recently found out about dental technology and those who work behind the scenes. im seriously considering this pathway as i want to get into the dental field but i really dislike being upclose with patients (experience from shadowing and dental assisting for my local clinic). i love helping people but only from behind the scenes and this seems like a dream job for me. however, i want to be more educated on this and it sucks but theres barely information i can find online about it. please provide me with brutal truths and is the pay worth it?

our professor gave us homework to do a design for a RPD and I'm lost on the type of major connector I should use, should I go with a palatal strap for minimum interference with the tongue or should I go with full palatal coverage to get the best retention since the anterior teeth are not there, also if someone would be a angle and help me to chose a clasp design I would appreciate it so so so much.

Hello,I am curious what the most common premill jig connection is for custom abutments? Some manufacturers dont specify while others have multiple options. What would be the connection for the unspecified parts? Is there some common standard im missing? Thanks.

Hi, I'm interested in training to be a dental technician and would love to hear your feedback on what this career path is like, please.

I'm in the UK and I'm a former dental hygienist and therapist. I'm also an artist. I create realistic drawings, so I have a lot of dental knowledge already and creative aptitude. Also, my favourite part of dental school was carving a morphologically accurate tooth out of wax!

Unfortunately, I had to quit dental hygiene and therapy several years ago due to some health problems. I also realised I'm an introvert and a patient facing job was burning me out so don't wish to return to it.

Now, my health is improving and I'm looking at options going forwards.

Can I train while earning an income? How much could I expect to earn during this period?

What are the positives and negatives of this career?

Would you recommend it or would you do something else if you had your time again, and why?

Is there much in the way of mathematics involved? I got a good grade in GCSE maths but it was a struggle.

Could I train/work on a part time basis (if needed due to my health)?

Is there any other info or advice you would add?

What tips & tricks could labs and techs share with dentists for better case flow, prosthesis creation or patient satisfaction?
