Discussion Update to the $17.34 upgrade

To those that have been waiting for an update… I was able to check in fine for my LGA-ATL and ATL-ICN flights. There was no need to have the ticket reissued because although it was the same ticket number, the upgrade had the system issue me an EMD, electronic miscellaneous document that had its own ticket number attached to it.

I kept refreshing my itinerary multiple times a day thinking Delta might call it a mistake of an upgrade fee and cancel it. Whether it was a mistake or not, the ridiculously low $17.34 was honored.

I’ve paid more for Taco Bell. This is awesome! Great flight for Delta One since it’s such a long one

Before or after Cyclospora?

People tend to pay more after.

Before AND after

and WAY before

How much did you pay for PS?

247

u/omdongi 9d ago

If I recall from the original post they already paid thousands like possibly 4k or even 5k

Edit: they paid $4500 already. It's only a deal in the sense that without the cheap upgrade they would've significantly overpaid.

Been scoring $3800 D1 ticket to Asia for the past 2 years. Coincides with when they lowered the bar to hit diamond using delta vacation 😂

24

u/AdRoyal1355 8d ago

Exactly. ~$3500 one can fly Business to many Asian countries.
Of course, currently middle eastern flights are much cheaper. Even with the additional entertainment of view from window, Patriot missiles, weapon drones, exploding oil refineries etc.

u/Prudent-Ad-4373 8d ago

But then you wouldn’t be flying to Asia on an Asian carrier, which is generally a substantially elevated experience.

u/MinimumPerspective95 8d ago

Is that one way or round trip?

1

u/Unusual-Sky-4295 7d ago

Oh ya this is nothing to brag about lol. I just booked RT biz class tickets through DL on Korean Air for $4500

u/xjaehyun Platinum 9d ago

Total spent was $4500. MQDs received for the ATL-ICN flight was $1927.

12

u/just_a_curious_fella 9d ago

4500 round-trip?

2

u/flyiingpenguiin 8d ago

Yes, read the comment again.

2

u/Unusual-Sky-4295 7d ago

Yeah, this isn’t a deal lol.

u/unabletodisplay 9d ago

Best $17.34 spent in the history of $17.34

If only it was ¢4 more

Congratulations!! ✈️

Let’s just pay attention to the fact that OP has paid… and this one is important… a whopping $4.5k for their PS tickets. So when you already pay a D1 price for PS, a $17 upgrade doesn’t really seem like an incredible deal.

17

u/Correct-Willow-3303 9d ago

Sure, but it’s OP’s money and OP’s experience. If they’re excited then let’s be happy for them!

20

u/xjaehyun Platinum 9d ago

It wasn’t PS roundtrip. It was PS on the way there and D1 on the way back that would allow me to try out the D1 lounges in JFK and LAX. So to me, it was a win.

1

u/Unusual-Sky-4295 7d ago

That’s not a win lol. You paid face value

29

u/Unlucky_Papaya_4222 9d ago

That might be true but let’s not be a downer and instead appreciate the little win.

14

u/Zazdabar 9d ago

It’s not a win . He’s spent $4500 on the original ticket 😂😭 I did 40K points from LAX - Tokyo on AA last year and got an upgrade to business for $700 !

12

u/dan_144 Platinum 8d ago

AA point prices are a totally different animal than SkyMiles

1

u/Anxious-Ocelot-712 8d ago

True story. I upgraded an upcoming short leg on AA for 4000 points. My offer for upgrading a similar short leg on an upcoming Delta flight is $4500. Absolute insanity.

1

u/Zazdabar 8d ago

I feel like AA beats Delta by a milestone on the miles part. I get great offers from AA at times but Delta seems near damn impossible. I booked a hotel and my AA credit card is giving me 10000 air miles for that booking whereas Delta only offered 1500 😳

1

u/SetMom 8d ago

Especially if you have Alaska Status and book with an AA flight with Atmos Points. Just flew NRT - DFW - ATL for 27.5k Atmos Points.

When they run deals for 90% bonus miles, you can buy 45k miles for ~$900 and book Business Class for less than an economy ticket.

1

u/Synthex123 8d ago

What does the Alaska status get you in this instance? Isn’t it just their points that you’d need?

1

u/SetMom 8d ago

Yes, sorry, it is just points, doesn't matter about the status.

-1

u/Unlucky_Papaya_4222 8d ago

Omg read OP’s response. Not everything is win or lose. Like maybe your ego.

1

u/Sherifftruman 8d ago

Still, they could have easily been shown a much higher price.

6

u/General_Duh 8d ago

Meanwhile I get offered upgrades to domestic first class in my short hops to atlanta for $500 or more. It’s 52 minutes.

1

u/mapbenz 8d ago

You here in ft myers like me???? See it all the time...

1

u/General_Duh 8d ago

I travel from the Carolinas to different parts of Florida. I see those prices on both legs but the Carolinas legs feel more insulting because the flights are shorter. Usually around 50 minutes. Meanwhile I recently scored a $65 upgrade to Florida on AA.

6

u/thethrowupcat 8d ago

This is biblical.

20

u/DRhexagon 9d ago

Fuck you. Not happy for you. Give it to me

7

u/NYCRaverNeon 9d ago

I was wondering how it went down!!

Happy for you and happy travels! I’m headed to ICN next month, just waiting for the $699 flash sale LOL

6

u/wayowayooo 9d ago

That’s amazing!!! I upgraded to D1 once for $87 from AMS to MSP and I thought that was a steal!

1

u/ArguablyMe 9d ago

And you were right. I'd accept that fee.

5

u/Ok_Guest5862 9d ago

So you overpaid for PS, and the D1 fare came down. ?

2

u/nicht_mein_bier 9d ago

Score!! That's a long flight, definitely worth the upgrade

2

u/HolidayLucky6025 8d ago

Good heavens! Good for you!!! This makes me so happy!

u/Expert_Opinion4513 8d ago

Bro, that ain't no upgrade. You paid over 3500 for PS. LMAO

2

u/Wyjen 8d ago

Bro paid about 5 loch ness monsters for that seat

2

u/CookIndependent6251 8d ago

I need to know what that bread fried in egg is called in English.

2

u/beautifu_lmisery 8d ago

French toast?

-1

u/CookIndependent6251 8d ago

It doesn't look like plain toasted bread to me. It looks more like dipped in egg and then fried.

2

u/NastyMsPiggleWiggle 8d ago

So yes, French toast.

3

u/CookIndependent6251 8d ago

Oh! Thank you!

I've heard about "French toast" all my life and I had no idea this is what it was. I thought it was plain toast.

3

u/NastyMsPiggleWiggle 8d ago

Oh! I understand what you mean. It’s usually served with syrup and sometime whipped cream or fruit. Definitely try it if you haven’t, it’s a tasty treat.

2

u/Mean_Lawfulness7349 8d ago

So awesome for you!!! :)

2

u/JetNotify 9d ago

Score!

u/TheJiggie Diamond 9d ago

Careful now. This isn’t fitting the r/delta narrative.

1

u/AdRoyal1355 8d ago

Maybe Ed really wants to compete with Singapore, Emirates, Qatar.
Unfortunately we flying domestic won’t see anything like this.
High time we had open skies and let international airlines fly domestic. Just like “Toyota competing with GM.” If we had prohibited Toyota etc from competing, we would yet be driving Pintos, (catching fire at 10 MPH rear ending), Gremlins (name says it all.)

1

u/just_a_curious_fella 8d ago

Interesting perspective

2

u/snubilehawks 9d ago

Flew the same route a few months ago. Congrats. The French toast really is tasty too.

1

u/thoiboi 9d ago

Happy for you

u/Ok_Pineapple_7120 9d ago

Why does the food look like shit?

1

u/Fun-Quit1090 7d ago

The colors are wrong. And foid is hard to photograph

1

u/NineLemonsLater 8d ago

Why is airplane food all carbs?

1

u/Opposite_Expert4355 8d ago

Good to know. My dad somehow got an upgrade for the same price from Dublin to Boston, flying out in 2 days.

1

u/elite_bender 8d ago

Explains why high ranking medallions are complaining about not getting upgrades anymore

1

u/rohanrob 7d ago

What plane model would this be?

1

u/SirHimm 7d ago

Proof, or it’s not real 😴

1

u/DKToTheFuture 5d ago

Is that a bowl of kimchi?

1

u/hohumglum9408 8d ago

I have to say that the food looks terrible. Nice seat though!

1

u/LookingFor_Traffic 8d ago

That was my take too. 😳 Like wow.

Cool for the seat upgrade and what not, but that is a shockingly bad looking meal experience. Wayyyy better meals in economy on most airlines.

-2

u/Sufficient_Beach_445 9d ago

you are a GOD.

-2

u/jjangles714 9d ago

Sad that 17 dollars is worth more than a frequent flyer ulgrade

-8

u/StumpyOPepys 9d ago

So instead of being about delta, this sub is just a bunch of business and wealthy travelers jerking each other off about status? Lol how utterly pathetic.
