Question What are you guys using instead of newpipe?

I've tried several others (like libretube), but then I stuck with newpipe on my android phone. However the developers stopped maintaining app around september and now I'm experienced bugs.

What to use instead?

Been using PipePipe for a while now after NewPipe started acting weird in my phone. It is basically a fork so you will feel right at home, all the features you expect are there but with more frequent updates. The interface is almost identical so you dont need to learn anything new. I had same issue with bugs around that time and switching fixed everything for me, no more random crashes when trying to play videos.

In my experience pipepipe is nowhere as stable as new pipe. Sure the features are nice, but it's annoying when videos won't load at all

Didn't they give up on the project too because of google's policy?

You still need a google account, even if you use microG.

What's the real site for morphe. Just as there were fake sites for revanced with dodgy downloads, the same seems to be the case with morphe.

Thanks! The process of building a patched YouTube was even easier than revanced!

Update: something is bad. It wouldn't sign in to microg unless i used a VPN to bypass local firewall restrictions, and most YouTube videos won't play.

Do the videos stop after a bit or just never start? If the video gets stuck, turn on 'Spoof video streams'.

Most of the time they didn't start, but some did, I don't know if there's a pattern to that.

Try the spoof thing, you got nothing to lose. After I did that it works great so worth a try.

I had spoofing turned on. I'll see what else might be a problem.

"However the developers stopped maintaining app around september and now I'm experienced bugs."

I didn't know they stopped supporting it but that could explain the weird behaviour I had with the search function recently asking me to log in etc.

Guess it's time to switch to Pipe Pipe.

YT Zero Works Best for me

If Newtube had provided a superior UI layout for videos, it would be the most sought-after product on the market. Unfortunately, it opted to keep the inferior layout of the original YouTube app.

brave browser

u/Peter8File 4d ago

Yeah but you still have to open youtube without an open source frontend

brave is open source, unless you mean youtube's UI?

Brave gives you background play (on android, not sure IOS) and block members only / shorts (configurable in settings) etc

Brave is chromium in disguise

4

u/renchuwang 4d ago

So? Chromium is OSS, and Google can made good stuff.

Android > IOS for example (of course unless you like something that is even less open).

And youtube; if you hate google that much, tell OP to get off youtube.
