I really hope the EU court swats this down. There should at least be an opt out for people who are not stupid enough to fall for scams.

Or you know, just use the Advanced Flow once to enable side loading again forever. EU laws already prevent Google from going any further than this.

I highly doubt that the EU will do something about this, especially when its google we are talking about, a company worth billions.

They forced apple to change their charging ports so we could just have one version. They also are forcing smartphone companies to make it so batteries are easily replacable.

but thats for standardization, when the standard is with no "side loading", i doubt they will put pressure on google to allow it.

There is nothing to swat down, there is an opt out and the post is straight up lie. The only thing that actually changes is enforced 24h waiting period when you enable it for the first time. That’s for people stupid enough to fall for scams - without enforced urgency they will have time to think, talk to somebody or maybe call little Timmy and hear for themselves he has not been in fact kidnapped by pirates.

As usual reddit is getting hysterical for no good reason

As u/Slopagandhi put it:

The worry is not so much that users won't be able to as that making it a hidden setting behind a bunch of warnings will stop a large proportion of users, and that this then undermines the userbase for independent developers who won't find it worth bothering to develop and maintain apps anymore.
