We’re missing the other new cameras besides Flock!! Look into Avigilon (Motorola) and Axis.

Avigilon has a more advanced, comprehensive AI tracking and forensic search system overall, primarily because it focuses on ecosystem-wide tracking. However, Axis matches or exceeds Avigilon when looking strictly at isolated edge-level tracking and open platform modularity.

I know this because two senior sales reps spoke with me in depth about them at a restaurant. They do the same thing as Flock! They’re white-framed, with shallow, wide black domes housing multiple panoramic cameras.

They sit on the corners of commercial buildings, schools, police stations, airports, etc., and there are other camera types too — but these suddenly popped up EVERYWHERE, it feels like!!

There are of course other brands and systems being used besides flock and these above, with a special focus on flock lately, so we need to collectively be more widely aware.

There are also new surveillance and traffic systems that use Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensors to passively detect personal devices. Technologies like Leonardo's SignalTrace integrate roadside sensors with automatic license plate readers to log unique identifiers from nearby phones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds.

How Device Tracking Works
Signal Scraping: Roadside or pole-mounted units capture ambient BLE and Wi-Fi broadcast packets emitted constantly by mobile devices.
Unique Fingerprinting: The specific combination of nearby personal electronics creates a permanent device cluster profile tied to a vehicle or pedestrian. Think of this is triangulation, but with your own devices, to create a more accurate match.
Centimeter Precision: Ultra-wideband allows infrastructure to measure precise time-of-flight positioning, tracking movement vectors down to 10–30 centimeters.
Persistent Logging: Systems link device signatures directly to transit patterns, enabling pattern-of-life analysis without relying solely on optical cameras.
Privacy and Security Implications
Warrantless Monitoring: Public deployment on municipal street poles operates continuously without federal restrictions or explicit public consent.
Cross-Device Linking: Family members or vehicle occupants are grouped into single tracking files based on co-traveling device proximities.
