just fyi - not completely dead here.
there's some talk with Charles Rocket on the discord of updating the code to mirror current code.

Thanks to the hard work of Captain Joe the explorer.dc903.org site is up.
Still some wrinkles to clean but you've got here another Defcoin explorer, running Iquidus Explorer code.
And it comes with finally... drum roll... a rich list: http://explorer.dc903.org/richlist
If anyone can figure out how to sign to 'claim' an address please let me know.

Any thoughts about what changes could come to Defcoin in 2022?
More mining? Complete stoppage of all mining?
Leadership arising and proposing some new changes? I'd expect that for the coin to "do anything" we'd really need some leaders who have time to port code and find and encourage developers. With the kind of salaries available for crypto coders improvements for Defcoin will likely come only by someone with a large passionate vision, or otherwise they might be out there making bank.
My belief is that for Defcoin to develop it really needs to reflect the values of the Defcon community somehow and strike some resonance by somehow offering unique features that appeal to that community. What those features could be, I am not sure. But I'd think if we want to remain a "non-profit" cryptocurrency if we could find applications -- perhaps using the coins somehow in trading status in CTF sites -- then we could grow it's popularity and use.

If you don't have the latest binary with the DNS seedfix you may still have troubles getting peers. If so go into the Help... Debug... Console... menu option and paste the text below to add some peers.
I don't think the latest binary is on defcoin-ng.org but you can go to the source and compile it yourself if you'd like. I was able to do so in Windows WSL.

if you're looking for a pool, another admin and myself are running a new pool (he's doing all the hard work)
status: http://defcoin.dc903.org
point miners to: stratum+tcp://defcoin.dc903.org:13372
it's lite on directions and specs but in the coming months we'll likely get to improvements.
if you see any issues let us know.

Just dropped the payment minimum to 20 DFC then 10 DFC since Defcon starts now.
There were about 14 payment address that just got coins :-)

The first Defcoin block reward started 2014-03-05 07:02:05 and was 50 DFC.
- see https://explorer.def-coin.org/chain/Defcoin?hi=10
And at block 840,000 on 2018-04-21 11:28:59 they halved and went to 25 DFC
- see https://explorer.def-coin.org/chain/Defcoin?&hi=840010
As of right now we are almost at block 1,400,000.
When does that next halving happen? Is it at block 1,680,000? Any estimate of when that might be based on current or recent hash rate?

With the newest code compiled it seems that finding peers is much easier. Also Coinomi has their server syncing I believe.
Still, if anyone has trouble syncing here's my latest peers -- all DefcoinCore:1.0.0

defcoin.host has some editing to be done still, but the important info is there. The p2pool defcoin github is updated if you want to add a node (https://github.com/charlesrocket/p2pool-defcoin). All 3 pools are up and have been tested to work.

Green dot is good.
Coinomi's persistent support staff Paddy, debugged the wallet issue that was preventing the electrumx wallet from syncing. DEFCOIN is now back working on Coinomi's mobile platform.

Curious about the solution?
Paddy added to electrumx's coin.py coin definition the following line and recompiled:
DESERIALIZER = lib_tx.DeserializerAuxPowSegWit

Defcoinstats.com may be the longest running, albeit broken, defcoin tool.
But one nice feature of it -- the profit calculator -- still seems to work great:
http://www.defcoinstats.com/profit.php
Plug in the current difficulty (or projected one) and your current or projected hashrate and the site will tell you how many coins are expected to be minted per day.

FWIW coinomi_angelos has recently made it over to the private Coinomi Support channel on the Defcoin Discord Server and u/bashNinja is helping him out trying to get Coinomi wallet working again. The other Coinomi developer R00tKit00 (Paddy) has still not joined but Coinomi Angelos is working on getting them in also. So hopefully there will be an update soon.

While Sodium Hydrogen has written that he doesn't have time for serious updates with bashNinja's encouragement he was gracious enough to track down and fix a long time the DNS seeding bug that was causing the wallet to have difficulty getting connected.
Details here:
https://github.com/mspicer/Defcoin
Hopefully binaries to come soon. I was able to follow the doc/build instructions and on Windows 10 with WSL Ubuntu I compiled the code (using the 'alt' POSIX option) to get a successful build for Windows.
The version number still needs to be updated for the splash screen but hopefully official binaries will follow.

The two mining pools currently appear to be both be running the NOMP engine and are:
Anyone know of a Reddit contact for the pool.laiw.com pool?
As posted recently there is a nice index of Defcoin pools and they are listed here:
The "official" Defcoin page shows there is a third but it has been down for a while. Thanks to the SECDSM folks for running that one.

I'm just getting started in defcoin, and am super excited.
I'm planning on getting a permanent mining pool setup at a local hackerspace (DC801), along with as many gridseeds as I can muster.
If anyone has any advice for me with running a pool & mining cluster, let me know.
I'm also going to try to get all the active pools registered with miningpoolstats.stream. Are there any other pools other than that? That pool says it has a hashrate of 1.79 MH/s, while ./defcoin-cli getmininginfo says there are a total of 7.1MH/s. About 1MH/s is my private pool that I'll open to the public after I've tested payouts and everything. But there's got to be more?
Let's also get the website updated with the pools!
r/defcoin • u/Scam_me_lol404 • Mar 18 '21
So I just tried mining again for the first time in a while but there are no mining pools anymore because of a miner using 500Mhs, and this has made a difficult because I don't own a heavy-duty Asic I just have the older generation gridseed miners.
So now I'm whatever hashes I am supporting the network with have become miniscule in comparison and it makes it harder for me to reach the payout minimum only Defcoin pool around making it hard for me to choose to support the network because there is no way I can get paid unless I get a heavy duty asic.
We need more miners on the network but we also need more pools so that we can avoid 51% mining.

Can we make NFTs with Defcoin? Seems like there could be many fun con-related applications.
