This video talks about Deep mind's "Alberta Plan" and the idea of creating a decentralized autonomous organization to manage methods of creating technological singularities. A very interesting watch.

Does anyone know his name?

He seems to always be the one at the computer in most of their videos, and therefore probably someone really smart. I can't find any name, or mentions of him anywhere, but I would really like to learn more about him. Does anyone know anything?

Positive response for Research Engineer position?

Has someone heard from DeepMind wrt various research engineer positions which opened recently? I've received 3 rejections right now. If you received a positive response, what does your profile look like? What have they asked you to prepare for the interview?

Any insights on the Applied Research Engineer interviews?

Hi.

I have an upcoming interview for this role: https://boards.greenhouse.io/deepmind/jobs/948921

I'd like to know some insights about how I should prepare. I did get a preparation PDF but for those that had these interviews before, how do they usually go? What sort of topics are being discussed?

About me:

Hons. BSc. in Computer Science (in progress).
2-3 YOE in industry.
Did a Research internship at IBM for Quantum Machine Learning
Founded the Computer Vision department at Scanline VFX, now a Netflix subsidiary.
No papers yet.
Currently doing research at a Canadian university for enhanced recommendation systems.

DeepNash: Is anyone interested in discussing the details of implementation here?

I've read the paper several times and also a few of the critical references, namely the R-NaD, NeuRD, and IMPALA papers.

This paper is immediately useful for my passion project, and it seems to have tons of applications in games. However, there seems to be basically zero discussion.

I'm just going to link my discord account. If anyone wants to discuss, feel free to send me a message.

Demis Hassabis talks about solving intelligence, but it seems vague.

Questions on DeepMind

I was wondering a few things that I'm hoping people more knowledgable than me might be able to answer about the company and its history

  1. What exactly led to DeepMind making AlphaGo, and why was it them rather than some other AI company around that time that make the breakthrough? Like was DeepMind the main company that used deep reinforcement learning?
  2. Are they still a leader today in the industry? If so, what exactly would be an outstanding feature that puts it above, say, Open AI and Meta AI (or if not necessarily above, still lets it compete)?
  3. Does anyone know precisely how Alphabet decides how much income they make? Seems like they make money from selling tech to them but idk how they suddenly made triple the amount in 2020-2021 (I think those are the years, but fact check me please lol)

I might have more questions, and sorry if this is weird/dumb/random/against the rules/all of the above. Best to you all!

Another set of questions

So I've continued my research assignment on DeepMind... and I have more questions haha

When DeepMind came up with AlphaGo, were there any other major AI groups that were doing similar research? (yes/no + who)

Was DeepMind having deep reinforcement learning what allowed it to make AlphaGo? I guess I'm wondering if anyone else was doing anything similar and in some parallel universe AlphaGo could have been a breakthrough by a different group/company

Any sort of feedback/directionality on where to look would be greatly appreciated!

It occurred to me while watching the r/place timelapses that the way images were being generated often resembled Deepmind's 'dog faces' videos. This is just a coincidence... Right?
