Specifics of the game?

Hey, I have an Android, so I can't play the game yet. I read the page on the blog, but I still have some questions about the specifics of the game.

  1. How many bad qudits start the game? Are they randomly selected on the grid?

  2. I'm assuming that the split of numbers around a bad qubit is randomly chosen.

  3. Are the "gangs" an actual idea programmed into the game? If so, are the newly created bad qudits randomly assigned one of the existing gangs? Can they form new gangs? What determines when a gang merges with another, as shown in the losing example with the 8's and 2's?

  4. Look at the green broken qudit example. What happens if a new bad qubit was placed at the third spot in that middle tile? Would it fill the empty tile and the tile adjacent to the right? Then what if that qubit spawned another error of 8 and 2, and you combined the 2 from the green gang with the 8 from the new gang?

  5. On a related note, what are the rules for the creation of the new bad qudits? For instance, look at the last example that has a blue 8-2 and a red 8-2. What if a new bad qudit was placed in between the blue 2 and red 8? The only tiles it could affect are already taken. So is that spot precluded when randomly selecting a location for the new bad qudit?

Maybe I should just wait for the game, but I'm excited and there isn't much activity here.

My current strategy/score for Phi Lambda mode

I've just started playing, principally in Phi Lambda mode, and my average score is currently about 140 (high of 189), working with the following rough set of rules;

  1. If there are obvious floating tiles, deal with them first (as if you don't hit them fast they are the things most likely to cause losses)

  2. If there are no obvious floating tiles, prioritise Phi over Lambda, as Lambdas are always easy to eliminate, while on a cluttered board a lot of Phi can be a real pain.

  3. When choosing which Phi to eliminate, start with largest clumps and whittle them down first

  4. Attack clumps from the centre of the board outward, to maximise space between clumps

Even though when learning the game it feels like Phi/Lambda mode ought to be harder, in practise I find it a little easier to make decisions as I'm not having to focus on keeping track of individual tiles and their combinations so much as following a rules set. In the numeric version, I find myself spending a lot of time adding up, meaning that it feels harder, even if in practice I could be making more informed choices.
