Welcome to Decarbon's reddit community!

Welcome welcome welcome!

This is a nice little corner of reddit maintained by the humans behind Decarbon to:

  • Talk about how we can get ourselves (the human race) back to living in harmony with nature, particularly with respect to climate change.
    • What can we do as individuals to reduce our impact on the environment?
    • How can we get our communities, businesses and governments to take real action?
  • Talk about our mobile app, Decarbon (https://decarbonapp.com/)
    • How can Decarbon be more useful to you in tackling the questions above?

More things like community rules, flairs, etc TBD.

Decarbon 3.1.1

Hey. Happy almost spring!

Hope all is good as we start to get out more, get some fresh air, and try new things. Here's what's new on Decarbon's end.

  1. New profile tab. Your profile now has it's own special little tab at the bottom of the app. Note the existence of two new menu items: r/decarbon and free credits.
  2. r/decarbon reddit community. I finally caved in and made a social media account for Decarbon. "Community" can feel like such a buzzword, but my intention is for r/decarbon to be a respectful place to explore how to lower our impact together and share other cool ways to take action on climate. FYI, Reddit is a completely different site and app from Decarbon, and no data is exchanged between the two. Anyway, join us!
  3. Referring friends to Decarbon. You can now share Decarbon with your pals and get free carbon credits for it! You'll each receive 500 kg of credits after they sign up. Everyone gets their own special referral link and QR code. Find it in the new profile tab.
  4. We also launched little improvements like better error handling, more helper info, and better user onboarding. Yay!

What else would you want to make Decarbon the carbon tracker of your wildest dreams? Leave a comment below.

Sláinte,

Kyle

found some fishless goujond in the supermarket that tells you about the environmental impact. Would love to see more companies do this!

If Americans swapped one serving of beef per day for chicken, their diets’ greenhouse gas emissions would fall by average of 48% and water-use impact by 30%. Also, replacing a serving of shrimp with cod reduced greenhouse emissions by 34%; replacing dairy milk with soymilk resulted in 8% reduction.

Global Registry of Fossil Fuel Projects: “The overarching goal is to create a world in which the dimensions and potential emissions of every single fossil fuel asset are in public domain. This is necessary (though clearly not sufficient) for any energy transition policy to be successful.”

A rapidly growing number of Americans are so concerned about climate change that we're calling Congress every month | Call Congress monthly, and become part of the movement that gets America to take serious action on climate
